  1. Crown Manufacturing and D!ck Barbour made kits back in the day, Here is a thread from a while back with info on both... http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=22581&highlight=carb+forced+induction Will
  2. Here is the original thread on these... http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30684&highlight=lexus+headlights Will
  3. I haven't even opened the tube, but #8 is now waiting on an appropriate frame! Will
  4. DO'oh, caught again! Given the necessity of maintenance, anything will last when it is provided, but as far as I know the first group included those that like to maintain their cars. Here in the USA I must admit the one friend I knew in Highschool with an MG could hardly get gas in the car, but he did love it-fortunately what he lacked in mechanical ability(he used wrenches as paperweights), his parents bank account made up for, It seemed to me that car was tuned up every 500 miles or so-the valves just wouldn't stay...but that could have been a "smart" mechanic... Another experience from that time frame I had to draw from was neighbor who had 8 old Jags, all of which I rode once in, none of which started twice in a row...he finally got fed up and told me:"you know if I put a buck on the front seat of each one and rolled them in the river, I'd miss the $8." They all were bought by the Rayhal family, and most of them are in pieces in a storage unit to this day-the building is rotting away, but the parts are still in it-I'll have to make them an offer! in College, I had a friend with an aluminum MGB, He drove it for a year, and then had it all over his rental for three years... This was the total of my British car experience-other than consistantly over the last 30 years visiting an old car lot in Maggie Valley, NC where several old Jags(as well as a good many other once beautiful and not for sale cars) are slowly rusting away to nothing... But, then the same thing is true of the Italian cars I have owned-USA POs do tended to drive the cars until they fall apart...and then sell them. WIll
  5. Get classic insurance, add some Stabil, fill the tank, have the parental units take her for a date once in a while(good for them, good for the car, good for you!), maybe even enter her in a carshow-build their enthusiasm as E said-and drive her proudly when you head home for the good weather holidays! You will have a car that appreciates while you are in school driving one that steadily depreciates...think of it as a saving account if you must, but keep the Z! Will
  6. I reread the email collection last night, and got back up to speed. This is some of the neatest verifiable part of the Z, and I have several rust buckets put away and stablized waiting for spot weld removal to release panels(and order)...but far down the road. Will
  7. I would agree-except the Z32 is (aside from being a beautiful car) exactly what Nissan advertised it to be. Nissan always painted the Z32 as a super car, and a worthy extension the Z lineage. Nissan painted the 350Z as a new generation of the 240Z "sharing its DNA", "and that marketing lie is what makes my case. Look at all of the early 350Z marketing-it is all built on the lineage of the 240Z. If Nissan had sold the car on what it was, and not what came before it, they would not have gotten such a passionate response(I wouldn't have cared at all) Hopefully they have learned playing the lineage card in marketing has to hold up to a DNA test even for a chimera. Once again a father who has no resemblance to his son has to wonder about DNA. Ebayers who take such poetic license in a description are branded bad-I get passionate about that too.... Will
  8. I figured out early in my car experience that long term British car owners came in three varieties: 1) Those who loved to tinker far more than to drive. 2) Those who were in denial(and ever hopeful), but had money. and 3) Those who knew that a show car does not have to run, if you have a winch in your trailer, and something else to pull it with! Will
  9. I have your factory alter ego here! Currently my only Driveable Z... I have yet to put the door mouldings back on, it is a "J" vin NA, and I put the turbo wheels on it Will More pics here: http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=9071&ppuser=4106 well, maybe not...
  10. Ron, When I cut one of my rusty buckets up, sans the firewall, one person can load the rear of the car onto a trailer reasonably well-meaning I agree with your balance thoughts -also if you look at the flanges at the firewall, maybe the car was made in the two sections and joined together there for handling economies...that and an out of line repair stop might also explain some of the vin irregularities. What I know about this subject could fill the void in a spot weld, but it is interesting-as are the photos and sketches! Will
  11. I haven't heard anyone knock the technical aspects of the 350z(OK well the alignment issues it had early on, and its weight), my primary beef with it is that is just butt ugly to me. You are right, Nissan didn't design it for me, they designed it for their accountants-therein is the problem, the 240z was designed to be a world class car first (granted the economic climate it was designed in pretty much took care of the bean counters). I'll also grant you Nissan isn't even close to the same company it used to be-the view is no longer people centric, it is Dealership owner centric. As disappointing as it may be "to see people not appreciate a 350Z for it being a Z and continuing the Z legacy" it is far more disappointing to see Nissan ignore the Z legacy and build and market a car that does not belong in it. Will
  12. My opinion is all over the threads, but here it is again. The 350z is a logical reuse of an excellent platform with among the ugliest exterior I could expexted to see only in a japanese comic book(...Project X did not come out before the 240Z)-its one saving grace in that respect is that you can't see any of it from the drivers seat! It looks like an automotive stylists tribute to a tree frog(especially in green). People have pointed out what they consider to be styling cues shared with the 240Z, but I don't see them as any more shared styling than a glass windscreen alloy wheels, rubber tires, two seats, rear wheel drive, and lugnuts... I have seen that some look better than others, and with a paint scheme to break up the cars actual lines, the convertibles can actually look good. The 240Z(S30) is the prettiest of the Zs, followed by the late model 300s. I would buy a new Z with a straight 6, and a few parts that are 240Z interchangeable or strongly favor the originals-Z emblems, gages, Hatch vents, Taillights, and jdm headlight covers. It would also need to share some Profile lines-it should favor nothing but a 240Z-one of the problems with the AudiTT-er 350Z, and its platform sharing bretherin... Will
  13. almost every Z seat has been fit into a 240Z, ad have a great many from Acura, BMW, Mazda, GM, VW, and more... Seatching the archive will give you note on installation... http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=22870&highlight=fierro+seats http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17052&highlight=fierro+seats A New aftermearket AC will beat the dealer installed AC(the factory did not offer an AC for the 240Zs destined for the USA) hands down. Derek posted this recently. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30411&highlight=vintage+air Again, a search of the archives will give you more... Will

Rick, he was in all of the deleted scenes, truth be known, it was his flimsy green hose in Johns' radiator...and he has just never gotten over having his best performance left on the cutting room floor:cry:... :stupid: Will

Bill, There is no sex in the green room-or between E and me-unless you count passionate Z talk, E does get a wee bit carried away when discussing JDM parts! Will

John, Almost... Bill is into breats and thights, but needs bigger speakers than the base model Itit. I have never written a check to E, though I have sent paypal to both Him and Rick-though not for the same thing at the same time(might be a bit too twisted for even Ricks sister!)...I have also sent E wood, and stiff plastic toys. Rick has sent me money too, and a georgeous hat, and some other things too clean for this thread. In fact I am sure Rick got the feeling I was doing that Wimbly (from PopEYE) thing: "I'll gladly pay you Thursday for a hamburger today"... E has provided services to me, as has Rick, You have seen what I got from E, and I believe you liked it, you have also seen what I received from Rick and I believe you liked it as well... John, I believe you and I have spent several hours doing the fluid transfer thing(my hose, your radiator(E, Bill, Rick-that's enough!) More simply put, I bought several Datsun grill Badges from E, I have sent his several sheets of Burl Walnut Veneer for a project, and I have sent him a radio faceplate and several other series 1 parts to have the chrome accents corrected. Rick bought and shipped a buttoned RHD turn signal switch for and to me, and I paid him for it-way late.... Bill is from Arkansaw (and somehow related to Bill Clinton) is in college, hopefully to learn what "Is" means, has a hat fetish, and an odd obsession with flesh colored coathangers. Arne is just incriminated from selling cars that weren't his on a website! BTW E, you are like an all you can eat buffet, "if that's all they give you, that's all you can eat! This all reminds me of the logic vs sex argument...I'll have to dig up the wave file and post it. Will
  19.
