  1. I was working on my '75 280Z many years ago, and when I tried to start it, it smoked, choked, and generally wouldn't run. Took me a while to find, but SOMEHOW (I never figured out how), I had sucked coolant into my air flow meter, and there was coolant pooled in the bottom passages. Cleaned that all up and it worked fine again. Don't remember what I was actually working on at the time...

I lied. When I left work today, premium was $2.14

$2.04 for premium here in the corn fields... That's for the real stuff; gasolhol (that I don't use in the Z, but is very prevalent around here) is a couple pennies cheaper.

I second the motion! I can't make it to CA, but I could make the East Coast!

That's cool; I was just noting that I think they were the original ones in the thread. The price is the same, and it's Bob Zola's (rzola) auction. :classic:

I think that's the one that abas noted earlier in this thread.

I try to keep up with all the new Zcar oriented e-bay listings, and I didn't see them. I would have snatched them up in a second, just like the last set went in a matter of minutes, apparently.

I don't know of any registered as 1969's (there may be, but I don't know about them), but a couple of us on this board have cars BUILT in 1969.

Rats! I've been looking for those seals for over a year now. I refuse to remove them from my car until I have replacements, as I figure they'll not fare well if I do. I would like to remove them for painting in the future... I usually watch rzola's auctions closely, but I missed that one. I would have grabbed them in a heartbeat.

Let me take a stab at it: When the TC rod moves up and down, the threaded end "pivots" at the frame end. When controlled with rubber bushings, the up and down pivot movement just deforms the rubber with little resistance. With PU, the rod has MUCH more resistance at the front bushing to deforming the PU, and thus tends to bend more there, particularly right at the "step" which should act as a stress concentrator. With the AL cup/delrin, you now essentially have a pivot cup there at the front of the frame connection, so there is very little resistance to the rod pivoting up and down. The idea behind the harder bushings is to keep the rod from moving front-to-back, and the up and down resistance is a side-effect. The PU compresses much less than the rubber, so the front-to-back resistance is much higher at the expense of the up and down resistance increasing as well. The cup/delrin method gives you very little front to back movement with decreased up and down resistance as well, so the rod doesn't bend at all. So, racing guys, is that a reasonable explanation?
  11. Nobody's mentioned Chloe at MidwestZ yet as a possible place to get said part. She's gotten a number of things for me that no one else said they had or could get... www.midwestz.com

Hey Kats, is your valve cover actually signed by Y. Matsuo? Looks like it from a pic on your new site...

Now THAT would be a very bad thing :dead: ! Do you remember where you read it? I just ordered a Poly bushing kit for my 280Z, and I'm looking for any and all info before I mount it... Thanks.

Yes, that actually looks like the one in my '78 280Z as well. It's interested me that they put the antenna rocker back on the right side. So, my '70 240Z and my '78 280Z have the same antenna rocker position. The 280 is AM/FM and the 240 is AM only.

I haven't even seen braided radiator hoses on e-bay or anywhere else. I have braided heater hoses and several other braided hoses now, but not the big ones. I have time to keep watching though... To plate clamps, I'd have to have some first. I keep my eye out for wire clamps, and I have some, but I haven't made a list of what I need, so I don't really know how close I am to having a "set".

I found the following definition on the web: "Faux is a French word used to describe something made to resemble something else. The original French word means false, fake, imitation or artificial. Faux marble looks like marble. Faux bois looks like wood. Faux porphyry looks like stone. "

Welcome, Mike. Just looked up your car on zhome.com - looks like you've got your original engine. How original is the rest of your car? Several of us on this board are restoring/refreshing very early cars (mine is #215), and like to compare original bits, since the very early cars often have some unique pieces. Love to see what you've got!:classic:

    Bob & Tom fan?
  19. mdbrandy posted a post in a topic in Engine & Drivetrain
The Z's didn't use an O2 sensor in the FI system until the '79 280ZX.
  20. If he does, I'd LOVE to know about it. Thanks.

Your url is wrong. It's Sleepy.mpg, not .mpeg.

The paint you can see looks nice, but what about the rockers, frame and floorboards? Where is the car located?

    Yuck!
  24. Where did you get a rounded throttle knob! I'd like to have one to go with my round choke knob....

Ah - I hadn't noticed that. At least it's protection from rain through the windshield. Don't know how much good it'd do to protect a primer'd surface over time, though. Probably get condensation under that non-breathing plastic anyway.
