Mine cost less and like I said 5 years use so far with no problems: http://store.schumachermart.com/sem-1562a.html

"Battery Desulfation" Snake oil or what?
I just use a 'Schumacher battery companion' when I plan on leaving the vehicle idle for long periods of time. That would be the truck mainly becuse the Z does get driven at least once a week. The truck only gets driven about 5 or 6 times a year and I used to have battery problems with it until I started using this about 5 years ago. No problems since.

no power to fuel pump, all fuses are fine
A 75-77 280Z would also have fuel pump contacts in the AFM as we discussed in a recent thread. Check to make sure that they're working. Look at the upper (75-77) chart. Also, scroll up to post #9 for pictures of the AFM. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?p=238706&highlight=contacts#post238706

Door Interchange - 1982 280ZX
I would think that, as in the case of the S30, that the 2+2 S130 doors would be longer. But if it's a ZX, nothng other than doors from a ZX of the same body type will fit.

Running too rich to drive...
Too many variables there for me to even hazard a guess. Fuel pump wired to a switch (why?), AFM 'messed with' (why?). I'd need a lot more information.

Whats the best head?????
N47s are a dime a dozen (not literally but you know what I mean). I've got three of them in my garage plus the ones on my cars.

Whats the best head?????
I remember reading that she died in an automobile accident about 5 years ago. Besides, she'd be near 60 if she was still alive.

won't start and is backfiring.
Look inside the dist. cap and make sure the button isn't stuck on the spring in such a way where it's not making contact with the rotor. Sometimes they even come loose and fall down into the distributor.

british su carbs?
You might also try these guys. Three pages of SU rebuild kits. I discoverd them a few years ago when I found that many of the BMC engine parts work on the old Datsun E1/J engines like I have in my 320 pickup. http://www.mossmotors.com/Shop/SearchResults.aspx?SearchText=rebuild%20kit&WebCatalogID=0

CHTS Need help
That's basically it. It works on resistance. The resistance decreases as the water temperature rises leaning the mixture and shortening duration of the injector pulse. A bad connection is almost like having no water temp sensor.
-
CHTS Need help
Actually the water temp sensor monitors the water temperature and transmits a signal for the fuel mixtue and pulse duration the change during warm up. It has nothing to do with geting the head to operating temperature. A bad water temp sensor or a bad connectiion to it can cause the car to run rich. There is a test procedure in the FSM for that and the other sensors.

CHTS Need help
I doubt if he changed the ECU but he may have changed the AFM. My ECU is marked A11 601 000 and my AFM is A31 605 000. Stock California 5 speed 1978. They've never been changed. The CHTS is not necessary if you have the stock 78 electronics. When you say "The previous owner did the fuel injectors and changed that entire wiring harness", I doubt that. He probably changed the fuel injector part of the harness to replace bad connectors. That's somewhat common and would have no bearing on what ECU was used. Forget the CHTS. It does nothing since your cars circuitry doesn't include it. The car will run without it and your problem is likely elsewhere.

Do you think your car had Led Zeppilin played in it?
I'm sure my 78 had Zep played in it before I got it. The PO had several rock and roll posters in his garage and would have been about 25 years old when he bought the car new. It has had Zep played in it as recently as last week by me. Oh and Dave (post #4), that's 'Kashmir'.

Nippon Vintage Auto Number 11
I'm okay with that. From what I understand, in Japan when they say that they mean it with some level of respect:classic:

Help with headlights
Maybe in the lighting circuit but there are differences in the rest of the car. I'd keep trying to get the 77 manual if I were you.

One of my favorites is back on ebay
The pictures won't show. The auction is almost 4 months old.

CHTS Need help
Look on the drivers side of the block just behind the motor mount and you'll see the block number. If it's N42 it's the stock motor. 78 had an N47 head on a N42 block. The CHTS should make no difference as long as you have the correct 78 components hooked up. The coolant temp sensor is the same as the water temp sensor. Located on the water neck beside the thermotime switch which are both below the temperature sender for the temperature guage. Confused yet?

Any real benefit to changing to a 5 speed?

Brake warning light on after alternator upgrade
The problem actually has to do with the elimination of the external regulator. That alternator is basically plug and play for the internally regulated cars (78 up) but not really on the 77 and earlier externally regulated ones. I have seen info on how to correct this problem without adding relays, etc. but I cant find it right now. Steve Golik (zcarnut on this forum) could point you in the right direction on that. He seems to be very knowlegable in this area.

Any real benefit to changing to a 5 speed?
That's 15-30 extra miles per tank using a 15 gallon tank for example sake. You really can't expect much more gain than that unless you chage the differential ratio also.

mystery part '77 280
Site glass doesn't always tell the story depending on what refrigerant is in the system. Does it get cold? Those wires plug into the back of the switch and turn the compressor on and off depending on the position of the knob so I don't see how the system could be working without it. The switch should also have a copper thermocoupling that senses the evaporator temperature and cycles the compressor on and off to keep the evap. from freezing up.

CHTS Need help
If you have a cylinder head temperature switch in a 78 S30 you do not have the original engine. The CHTS didn't appear until later on the ZX and Maxima. Not having it hooked up shouldn't affect antying since it's not in the cars electronic circuitry. ZX engines have slightly different electronics. I'd make sure all of the components that should exist on a 78 are there and working properly.

A couple of unusual items
There's a guy on eBay that's been trying to sell an intake like that one here in the US. Over the last couple of years he's advertised it off and on for about $150 and has had no takers until last week. http://tinyurl.com/yodx34

Any real benefit to changing to a 5 speed?
The non USA S30 used a type A trans and the majority of the conversions done here use the type B. Still not a difficult conversion and there are many posts about that on this, as well as other sites.
