  1. Wow you found a whole new car eh? I was keeping an eye out up here but I had no luck. She is a very nice color, congrats!

This bar was made by the Franklin Mint back in the '70s as a part of "100 Set Centennial Car Ingot Collection", it weighs 1000 grains of .925 silver, so just a hair over 2 oz. Silver at $6? Now its close to $40 and even went up to $50 a month or so ago. I will keep an eye out for one of those Courtesy Nissan coins now that I know they exist.

That coin is pretty cool, I would have bought one but I was too young back then. It's definitely worth saving... because it is not only Z related, but silver is a good investment. I got this cool 240z silver bar from ebay a few months ago though.
  4. I found this decal for the second time, the first time I didn't have anyway to take a picture. This time I had my phone... but since it's an old phone please excuse the bad quality. It's a "Spark Plug Instructions" decal on the the valve cover (passenger side) probably above piston #5, written in English, German, and French respectively... saw it on a 280z, but with parts replaced I am not sure if they were original to the 280z.

If you want to go original, you can still order them from Nissan.
  6. Someone working on my Z before left out a little detail...
  7. It was not the 260z's fault it gets a bad rep, it is the product of environmental regulations. It was all the emission regulations (carbs) that off set power, even though the engine was bigger. Then they introduced fuel injection... and larger bumpers to weigh it down. Maybe that is why they only made it for one year before putting an even larger engine in it. I know that 260z's were made for a few years in other countries, maybe because they didn't have environmental restrictions (euro balance tube?). As long as one swaps out the flat tops for the round SU's and the large bumpers if it has any, one will surely enjoy more power etc. 260z's might seem to get a bad rep, but so do 2+2's and even automatic 240z's. Sometimes even a stock 240z is not enough for some people. So do not feel bad, 260z's are underrated and will make a good collectible car one day I am sure.
  8. Sure he admitted to being addicted to prescription medicine, but what does that have to do with anything? I thought that the left was poised on making cannabis, along with other drugs, legal? I have heard the argument that if drugs were legal "they wouldn't be a problem" and that they could be taxed. I have also heard arguments from the left that murderers in prison should be given a second chance because they can "change". I guess people on the right can't get a second chance, they might be dangerous. As for Americans taking care of Americans... sure we look after one another, it is what a good neighbor does. However the bread winner of the house works hard to take care of themselves and their families financially. In the economic mess we are in, I am sure many people regret the fact that a part of their pay check goes to pay for socialist programs that give handouts. Handouts have been given even since before this recession (my dad works at the welfare office), however now that even middle class families are struggling, the resentment is higher. What happened to that "teach a man to fish" proverb?
  9. I meant distasteful as in unpleasant (to me) not that I am being politically correct, because I am far from it. All I am saying is we shouldn't bring politics into it. If I said that this joke would be proposed by hippie liberal, I am sure there would be people on this site that fall into that category and wouldn't appreciate it. Sure I get heated politically when posting on say a yahoo article, but I never thought politics would be brought to this site. If anything, with all the disagreement I have seen in my 20 years of life, I think that Datsun Z's are one thing that draws all sorts of people together.
  10. Not to start a flamewar, however completely disregarding the joke, I find the term "Teabagger" offensive. Sure the joke is distasteful, however it is not the Tea Party's fault that SF was chosen by the GLBT community to live in. Let's not get political here.
  11. Cool gallery, Thanks for sharing!
  12. It does feel good when someone complements your car. The other day while working on my Z two (one actually pulled over to talk to me) said I had a nice car and that it sounded good. It is especially nice when you get comments, even though my Z looks great... from 20 feet away!

71ZZZZZ- Yea the tow eye goes on the on the front driver's side and there were 2 that were (but are not supposed to be there anymore?) on the back bumper mounts. But there was once up on a time a hook on the front passenger's side. Look at post# 8: Zulaytr has a better picture of the front set up: http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?17998-Tie-down-hook-color&p=136746#post136746
  16. Zs-ondabrain: I actually did put water wetter when I first got the Z... but I have never taken the radiator out to flush it and I think I should have it boiled/rodded and pressure tested. My priorities are screwed up I suppose. I also need to fix the dash/side/parking light problem. I read an old thread on how you said to test for it, but the other member had a 280z... I don't suppose it is much different. Thanks for your help and suggestions Dave!

Not even... just post some pictures, if your car needs help or you need help with the car, you will find many knowledgable people on the forum! Is it not running? I am sure its a California car... some people on here have restored rust bucket Z's. It just takes time I suppose... my Z wasn't running when I bought it. Also put like your vin number on your signature or something... the closest '72 I have found to mine was 54 cars newer! Same color combo too
  18. Today: Hardest part I have replaced on the Z... Tomorrow (hopefully): I got both bumper guard rubber pieces, the other one is not damaged, but will be replaced anyway. Aside from getting a new fan clutch and flushing the hell out of the radiator, hopefully these will help my Z run cooler

Nice to meet you too greentrees, I am glad you know the area . Make sure to snap and post a few pictures of your Z!

If you happen to have the hooks, why not mount them? Of course you would have to take them off if you are entering your car to be judged, because like you said they were not supposed to be there in the first place. However, there are other original parts, such as splash pans, that were original on some cars have been tossed in the past. My point is that we should save Z parts and with the modifications people make here and there, I think a hook is not a big deal. My Z had the hook in the front (was probably used in towing because valance is dented) and I even saved the back 2 hooks off of a '73 in a junkyard. Once prepped, primed and painted black I am sure they will look great

As far as I know (I welcome corrections): 240z seats have pleats or "lines" going horizontal 280z seats have the lines going vertical If by series 1 you mean early 1970-1971 seats, they do not have the reclining mechanism on bottom, outward facing side, but have these round knobs on the inward facing part of the seat (As denoted by #6 in the picture). Hope this helps!
  23. Sorry to hear that you want to sell your Z. Did you try the fuses for the dash light problem?
  24. Hello everybody, I removed my radiator hose/ water temperature sensor wire clip, recently hoping that someone out there with Z part-reproducing experience might be able to reproduce it. I know these tend to get brittle over time and snap, but mine is surprisingly pliable. I know that nissan makes a different clip to replace it, but for the sake of originality, it might be worth reproducing- especially after seeing some interest on another thread: http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?28549-where-can-i-get-these&highlight=wire+clamp This is the new one nissan currently makes (got image off ebay):
