  1. Excellent result.
  2. Orange or red yes-- No blue. Listen to your wife. It will pay dividends down the road. Been there and done that
  3. It all depends what the diff ratio was of the donor vehicle. The correct gear is in relation to your tyre size and diff ratio. Try what you have and check against another vehicle. It may be OK.
  4. Very odd--
  5. Pull the rockers one at a time. Yes. Keep us posted.
  6. Thats impressive BLUE. Obviously the hardened cam doesn't pit too much. JOHNNY HAYWIRE might be lucky, and save the cam.
  7. I would run it with the cam cover off for a minute to check oil flow to the cams. You will get a bit of splash but it's not a big deal. Helps to preserve the bodywork.
  8. Clean up the rust, and see how she goes. Regular oil and filter change might give you some good miles. These engines are tough, and it will be interesting to see just how tough.
  9. What Zed said, You can't run the engine with that rust everywhere. You are going to destroy the rockers, if they are not already.

Hi good luck with the car. Odd that it has a cage fitted from brand new. Appears to be chipping to the hatch strut, and misaligned front bumper. FWIW there should be no wear anywhere for that low mileage. Very nice find though.
  11. Good that you found the problem.

Good result. Carl is right about sand. I had my excavator blasted and painted. Should have left it---even though we were ultra careful, stuffed the engine.
  13. Good link. of course you don't need to stuff rope in the cylinder unless you are going to remove the valve keepers and springs. Section 12 in the link-- Beware of the lash pad flying out and dissapearing if your screwdriver slips off the valve collett. Throw a rag over the valve you are working on to contain bits that can become airborne. If they take off they are very difficult to find again. Been there.

Ha Ha. No Pressure Tim. See if you can make yours bigger than mine.
  15. Are you saying you can't get that gap any tighter?---. Very odd. Are you measuring at the heel of the cam? Rotate the cam slowly with the feeler in place,to find the most loose spot. The lobe may be dodgy. Doubt that though. I always measure the gap at the cam lobe. Works for me. I do it cold, and have never had any issues. Is the noise in the vid. similar to what you are hearing with the engine running? Why does removing a plug wire make the noise go away? Got me baffled. Edit. You clicked the send 1 minute before me . Well it would seem to be something out of kilter . Obviusly the gap is now tighter. As I suggested ---try rotating the cam.
  16. I put some rubber lube on the rubber when pushing the window into the car. Went in a breeze.
  17. So all you have done is replace a broken stud, and set the valve lash. The only thing I can think of is an exhaust manifold leak on No 1. The noise disapears when you disconnect the plug wire, You havn't cracked the exhaust manifold by some chance. Did you tighten it down evenly?
  18. Have a fish around in No.1 cyl with one of those magnet things on a telescopic stem. You might be lucky.
  19. Did you have a spark plug out? Has something been dropped into Number 1 cylinder?

    Here ya go Tim
  21. Agreed. Never take the risk. Also, you don't need to undo the four bolts to the halfshaft, or the brake line. FWIW

From one computer challenged old guy to another---Sorry I can't be much help. I can sort of manage to post pics sometimes when I remember how, or with the help of computer savvy 45 year old son. Others here will be able to assist I'm sure. I don't think a 35mm camera does it anymore. Look forward to seeing the ZED Brian.
