Need a diff in Western NY (ZCCR/ZACNY/OZC)
Thanks Arne. I was feeling a little too lazy to look it up I guess! Do you know if the ratios the same for a '73? I have a 5spd... just not in the car One mechanical wrinkle at a time is all I can iron out right now. Looks like I've got one wrangled up, thanks Jerry. It's untested but suspected to be in good mechanical shape. Anything we should look for before it's bolted in the car? Thanks, Nate

I'm not against having one shipped, so if you have a good deal and are willing to ship... that's fine too! Thanks Nate

Need a diff in Western NY (ZCCR/ZACNY/OZC)
At least I think so. My 1972 293,000 mile Z has a sad rear end. For starters it clunks. Okay Okay, this is most likely the mount... I have one, I just need to install it. But here is the real problem. It whines. And makes other clunking noises. Standing still, let of the clutch CLUNK (Diff mount?), Moving forward now it starts to whine, gets louder and changes pitch w/ speed. Let off the gas completely CLUNK CLUNK CLUNK THUNK CLUNK. Now up until about an hour ago if I gave it a little gas to maintain speed it would just whine, but now it started makeing lighter clunks then too. HELP! I NEED the car on Sept. 7th for an event at Watkins Glen, not racing just leisure, but it is for sports cars only and I've signed up the Z... Thats $70 I don't want to lose. Looking for a good used or rebuilt R180 in the Western/Central NY area or even nearby PA or our Canadian friends in Ontario. I can pick it up. I'm looking for a straight bolt in ready to go unit. I don't know what the stock ratio was but I'd like to stay in the same ballpark. Mine is a 09/71 build date w/ 4spd manual. I will pay cash or I have a L28 block that I would trade and throw in cash too. Heck I'd even toss in the engine stand it's sitting on. Please Help a fellow Z nut! PM if you can help. Nate :surprised

Why no Datsuns in Historic series?
I think that it would be more correct to say that Nissan isn't sponsoring any cars... but let's not forget about CORR, they're are pretty active in with their trucks. There's probably more profit in truck sales here in the U.S. anyway. I will be heading down to the Zippo U.S. Vintage Grand Prix at Watkins Glen in September... I hope that I'll see some Datsuns in competition there, but I'm not holding my breath. Here is a page some of you may not be familiar with, it's the Nissan Motorsports page... http://www.nissan-dakar.com/EN/index.html Nate

Gunmetal Panasports
Impatience has never been a part of the equation. I would LIKE to have them for a certain event, but do not NEED them for that event. As far as the manufacturer and any mystery process... I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that when they make the silver ones they toss a clearcoat on them. I highly doubt that they strip off the clear to paint/powder them grey or for that matter paint/powder over a clear, I may be wrong though. Therefore if you take them to Billy Bob the wheel guy there will most likely be strippers and cleaners involved and then his version of the color is applied. Haste makes waste. In this case the waste would be in the form of cash. Not trying to wizz in anybody's Wheaties here, just letting it be known that there is more than one perspective. Not that your way is wrong Steve... It's just not my style, and apparently not Jeff's either. IMHO, Nate

konig or panasports
And the Panasports look better  ... plus they're made in Japan... Seriously, I like both but prefer the look of the Panasports. Have you looked at Rota's? They make a wheel that looks much closer to the Panas. I think the Konigs look more like the Watanabes. Nate

best spark plugs?
- best spark plugs?
I currently use NGK's (BP6ES)... about every 10k.- 240Z Battery Size
Group 24 is "original" size. 24F has the reversed terminals which I recommend because it puts the negative terminal under the fender instead of the positive - just remember to reroute the cables. Both batteries can be had from Nissan if that matters to you.- Boy am I bummed out...terrible dyno results
I've met up with Jeff (the Orig. Poster) before... He ditched the L28 for a SB Chevy, then he got rid of the 280 and picked up a 240. It is nice to see these old threads once in awhile... some names I haven't seen around here in awhile, some of which some may not care to see again... Stephen summed it up best... "He was dealing with a rather tired engine with a really bad combination of parts."- Gunmetal Panasports
To me this is the equivilant of having buying a new car and having it painted because they didn't have the color you wanted on the lot, when all you have to do is wait a short while before the right one comes in. I can wait... it sucks, but I'll manage. It would have been cool to have them at the Vintage Gran Prix Festival in Watkins Glen next month, but oh well. Jeff- I would have never considered grey on a gold car... but I'll be damned- It looks great!- Gunmetal Panasports
Yup, MSA said the same thing, and quite frankly really didn't seem too interested in having to place a special order for them. The delay is all on Panasports end Ahhh, you would so that for me. You're a swell friend Ed!- Illegal window tint
This happened in my home state some years back (early 90's) and when the law changed your car had to comply with the new law because the tint was not original equipment. My father was stopped and the officer handed him a razor blade and gave him the option to remove it on the spot or take the $200 ticket... he removed it and had the new legal limit film applied a couple days later.- Gunmetal Panasports
PM coming at you Mike I don't really know what Panasports issue is. Les says it has something to do with them wanting to do a run of Grey vs. Silver. You can pick up silver ones from Les for around $1000, but the Grey ones are a little more and the wait is excruciating. I made up my mind though, I MUST have the grey w/ polished lip! Nate- Illegal window tint
Ed, Is your Z still registered and plated in New Mexico? I've never had issues up here and I've been told by cops that they wouldn't bother with me because of the out of state plates. Granted mine aren't as dark as your's, but they're legal for South Carolina and "illegal" for NY. Did you tell him you were in the BP? That stuff usually works... If (1) the Z is still registered in NM and (2) the tint level is legal for NM, then I would fight it. But if both of the above are NOT true then you need to make it legal for the state it is registered in. Good Luck, Nate- Gunmetal Panasports
If anyone is interested in Gunmetal Grey Panasports be prepared to wait. There are absolutely zero in North America. I put an order in with Les over at ClassicDatsun.com back in late March and it looks like I still have up to two months left to wait. If you are looking to get a set I recommend getting your order in now and hopefully yours can get slid in on the same manufacturing run that mine will be in and you won't have to wait as long. Les has been great to work with and he will give you a good deal on the wheel package. Les at www.ClassicDatsun.com 760-940-6365 Nate- Watch my Z video!!!
Nice! You had some really sweet angles and the editing was quite nice... I enjoyed the fact that there was some other sounds instead of just music, but I do dig the Floyd! Fine... no one else has said it so I guess I'll be the one to throw Politically Correctness right out the window... Chicks and Z's are hot! Chicks and cars are cool and all, but throw in a Z and it goes to a whole other level! Thanks for sharing and please spread your enthusiasm to the masses... especially the ladies!- Took some photos of the lime 72
Dear God! Those are some beautiful photos of a beautiful Z!- Nissan Decompensating
Let's get some stuff straight here... France was invaded and conquered by Germany - The U.S. is not in the same boat. The U.S. rescued France because it was in our best interest to stop the Nazi war machine. - This has very little in common with Iraq. Iraq did not invade another country, we put a stop to that the first time around. So the only thing in common between Normandy and Iraq is that they are both in OUR best interest. Now before anyone starts blasting away with anti-U.S. accusations let me just clarify, I have never been considered Pro-French, but more importantly I am not Anti-French either. If it wasn't for Carlos, Nissan may have wound up tits-up in the early 90's, so we have him to thank for that... and quite possibly the Titan too Yes, I too believe that Nissan should show a little more love to the DATSUN crowd, as they only seem to recognize the existance of the S30 when it stands to benefit their own wallet... but isn't that what buisness is all about? Sometimes it upsetting to see that it appears that Nissan (N.A.) is trying to distance itself from the Datsun name And furthermore, personally I LOVE to see old designs from one product used in another. When I bought my '03 Frontier and I saw the Speedo and Tach arranged in pods like the S30, I wept with joy... and the fender flares looked like ZG flares to me. I really wish they had done the same to my '07. Oh, and another thing... Nissan quickly realized that the Ford partnership (Quest/Villager) was a mistake, but they needed to get a minivan (yuk!) to market and Ford already had a plant and die facilty available. The short contract gave Nissan the time they needed to expand and tool up to build their own. The only Nissan parts in those vans were the driveline parts.- Nissan Decompensating
EVERY manufacturer does that. There's a good chance the Altima coupe buyer wants a back seat, something that the Z doesn't offer. Probably cheaper insurance... Not afraid to drive it in the winter up north... Like I said the only thing they have in common is the VQ35. - best spark plugs?
