  1. Rocker jack points on My car: front: 8.75" rear : 8.5" (both sides are the same) Wheel arch heights: frt: 15.25" Rr: 15.75 (both sides are the same) I have no idea what springs are on it- probably oem. I don't really care to measure the wheel arch heights because finding the center of the wheel hub isn't exact, unless it's marked on there. You could be up to 1/4 inch off.
  2. When I was younger, and my older brother was into cars, we fixed them up in the garage during the winter. When I got to 15, he told me "when you need a car for yourself, we'll go to the junkyard and build one!"
  3. Don't show him your wheel wrench until he's 16!
  4. Stephen- Did they actually just let you look around a JY and snip injector connectors?? Which ones did you notice would work best for our purpose? Did you notice any (or all?) with the rubber boots and/or the thumb release button? From the eBay descriptions of the connectors, it appears that many of the injectors used during the 80s had the connectors we we would need. It would help to know what to look for, or perhaps yuou could just yank a whole injector harness from, say, a V6 or V8 engine, possibly avoiding swapping all those ends and just adding a new ECU connector, which would be less visible. thx
  5. OK, Gary was right. I looked it up on the Automotive Glossary (http://www.autoglossary.com/) and it says the ride height is The distance between the road and the bottom of a vehicle. Just not what part of the bottom to measure from, like the rocker jack points. You all have agreed to measure something else, but all still the same points.
  6. The AtlanticZ article makes a significant effort to note the polarity of the pins on the injectors and that you connect them so. I know that coils prefer to have a certain polarity (like speakers), but they still work either way. It would be a more dificult (tedious) thing to check and see that the wiring was of correct polarity in the first place!
  7. Sorry, Gary, Matt was right. the stance of my car is a little high in the front. Plenty of clearance under the floor tho.
  8. Then which are the OEM clamps, the lead ones?
  9. What about this injector connector from eBay? too cheap? Do you still need to have the polarity correct, as in the AtlanticZ writeup?
  10. I dunno about getting those... If I went to a Z show with those cables, I'd get points off for not having what everybody else has! LOLVery pretty cables, and only $35
  11. TomoHawk replied to whew41's topic in Interior
Your ears and mine thank you...
  12. On my car, the front bumper is noticeably higher. Should the car look about level or the front lower? thx
  13. I already have a couple very basic 'automotive first aid kits' (freebies) packed in neat tubular bags, but I'll bet the stuff inside (ointments, sterilizers & such) is dried out or expired, so check the expiration date, unless you just want is to carry the bandages, of which the envelopes are totally dry & stuck together too. BTW, those 'moist towellettes' aren't sterilizers. And they aren't condoms, even if some lady mistakes them to be (happened to me once:surprised )
  14. Those Mini Cooper caricatures look like 350Zs! Good thing those aren't shown in public where lots of people look at them. Only you get to see it.
  15. correct. 20,000 grit is just a cloth with a rubbery feel, like a fingernail polishing stick. But it's impressive to show the stuff to people! I used 800 on the valve covers, with some extra-fine steel wool & polish creme.
  16. I have a whole set of sanding papers used to take scratches out of plastic airplane windshields and cheap sunglasses. It goes up to 20,000 grit. I keep a wheel of 36 grit on one sander
  17. You're funny Will. That's why I'm going to kill you last... (j/k- I saw "Commando" last night.) I thought 100-grit would make the grooves deeper... After furcan (hurricane) Ernesto leaves, I'll try it.
  18. I used 400 paper so far
  19. there are some draw-backs: The front caps are unmodified because the bearing sticks out, and since the spare has a flat cap attached to it, it may need to be removed to put the spare on the front. I was originally going to have those caps machined from thicker material, and have the logo laser-engraved-maybe even a hologram? I just have to figure out how to polish those spokes. I've been sanding them when I polish the rims, and they still have the machining grooves!
  20. This is what it looks like. You think I should polish or paint the brake drums silver?
  21. Come to think of it- what are the proper requirements for battery cables for a Zed? Does Datsun have a chart of the wire specs for certain things (headlights, starter, body lights, etc.?) thx
  22. While we're at it, should we also discuss first Aid kits? or do you think anything would work fine for that, or go with what the Red Cross suggests? Your personal skill with first aid is probably an inportant factor here also. That and where you are going/what the event is, should dictate the contents of the kit (i.e. road racing vs. a country tour). Always have a gallon jug of water with you. thx
  23. I think that's the best advice to give to somebody assembling a tool kit. It's not a bad thing to overpack, but then I think you would have the potential to pick the wrong tool to fix something, or to fix something you're better off having help with. It's best to travel in groups, if possible. More fun too.
  24. Thanks Lance, for the tip about Rock Auto. I bought a vacuum pod for a 79 AT dizzy, and it hooked up correctly. The engine works fine, but I want to do a tune up (plugs & timing) before I can tell for sure. It seems to be running smoother at WOT off the line; used to run a little rough at WOT from a stop.
  25. I go to car cruise-ins a lot and they sell T-shirts with cars on them, so to me and so many others, a car shirt is a car shirt, no matter what car is on it. And on every shirt, it tells you the name of the car, and maybe some other slogan. BTW, my nephew (he's 15) was here today, and I showed him the picture, and he said it was a 1969 Camaro.
