How do you think it would look to have a completely clear cover on the dome light, instead of the stock translucent white one. You'd definitely let more ofthe light from a stock bulb through that way. Even an LED lamp would be that much brighter. The only drawback I can think of is that you'd be able to see the guts of the dome light that way. thxZ

I took out the green domes from my gauges about a year ago, and put in 7 volt bulbs (GE #55). I turned the dimmer know down a little, but the gauges are easily seen at night.
  3. Thanks, Stephen, Actually, I used the sandpaper(s) to get out a few dings, so it ended up being in my favour. Still, for some reason, people will comment about how the valvecover is 'not polished?' :devious:
  4. What do you consider "polished" for steel & aluminum parts? Currently, my valve cover was cleaned, sanded to 800 grit, some steel wool, and then paste polish. You can't see yourself, but it's a very clean finish. That way you can have your parts shine and drive the car too. The old taping on the wires gets to looking frayed and unsightly, and there are just so many wires going to the intake on a 280Z with EFI, so if you could somehow encase them in something like shrink-tubing, then it would look great without being too rice. Of course, some wires need to be exposed, but those are short ones. As for painted surfaces like the block & sheetmetal, I like to see those with a slick-looking paint or clear finish, so water will drain off, or you could easily clean off any oil spots or dirt. In general, the finish should help make cleaning & maintenence easy. How come nobody has mentionedthe finish of the underside of the hood yet? The PO of my car used a rubberized undercoating (ugh!) thxZ

Could you please give the part #? You wouldn't have a picture of the insides? thxZ
  6. It looks like the intake gasket is in the way. I could see all the way into the head when I had my injectors out. Would you mind getting a photo of what you can see inside the port withthe intake manifold off? thxZ
  7. It makes you wonder about things, because the seller only tells you about how unique it is, and that you wantto buy it. The only thing he mentions is the spark plug wires, but what about the rest of the car? What is so good about the car? Anything special what's its history? How many owners? Where was it originally sold, etc.? I thunk what Carl said in #7 is very relevant for this car.
  8. Isn't there a section for the eBay car auctions? If it really is all "original" then that means 30 year-old spark plug wires, fuel hoses, tyres, wiper blades, etc., and unless it's been in a giant envirnmentally-controlled bubble, then the rubber things should be dried up and the tyres flat-spotted. OK, you can drive it for a hundred miles to re-round the tyres, but the car is still not all that new. I wonder just how good it really is, unless it's been driven periodically. thxZ
  9. I was thinking about attaching a heated fan like that to the end of a tube, then putting slots down the tube, so the air would blow on the window. It would need a couple of brackets on the ends. The problem is that I don't know how well the air would blow on the glass like that. thxZ
  10. There was a topic like this abut a year or so ago. Somebody actually found a replacement defroster grid kit, but you couldn't trim the strips to fit your window- they were made to fit specific cars, and the one that would fit a Z window was an inch too wide. I was hoping someone might know of a more reasonable solution than what I just said, but it looks like I'll (or we'll) need to comb the Internet for a more suitable replacement. It's too bad all the aftermarket stuff is geared for tuners, expensive customs or new cars... thxZ
  11. I don't think that I will be able to save or repair the rear window defroster grid on my 280Z, so I think I will need to either replace the entire grid or put in a fan of some kind to demist the rear window. What options are out there? thxZ
  12. Sweet? Really? Did you avctually get close to it and give it a lick??
  13. I thought red_dog was talking about swapping "something" with a girl or spouse! Personally, I don't think there would be room in a Z for anything more physical than holding hands maybe, unless you folded the seats forward and opened the hatch... thxZ
  14. With my luck, on that day, they'll show tennis instead of CCTV
  15. At 601 MPH your spook falls off? I was waiting for some body to say that, Bryan... Will that paint deflect rocks going up to 600 MPH too? (j/k) What you could really use on the body is that paint used on KITT on the Knight Rider TV show.
  16. In that case, most of the comments here on this website and most all other "open disccusion forums" would meet your suggestion.
  17. Sarcasm, dude. Sarcasm. Irony is humurous, Humor is irony. People take things too seriously today. thxZ
  18. denno- Does rthat paint reflect radar away too? :nervous: Where do you get it? thxZ
  19. You can also get a clear coating that will protect the paint. I think it's called stoneguard, and it will create a rough texture like bedliner. It's usually used to paint the bottom sections of rockers, fenders & sail panels, the front lip, etc. thxZ
  20. Thanks, Gordon, The start & finish area will be wherever we decide to put it. It could be at the convention site, or maybe somplace close by. Just for Dade280, the start will be in Fort Kent, ME, and the finish will be in Fairbanks, AK... Trophies or plaques are the usual thing. There are lots of options you can do about entry requirements, and there might be an option to put in some cash, to buy a card or as a prize. thxZ
  21. I didn't get to finish what I was typing before. A poker run is a kind of rally- not a "race!" You follow a map or directions to a number of stops (driving within the posted speed limits, or according to the instructions) where you pick up 5 playing cards to make up a poker hand. You may also be expected to answer questions or even collect some things (leaf, rock, soda bottle, etc.) at certain points on the route. At the end of the run (or the day) the person with the best hand wins something. You can win money, a trophy, prizes, etc. what I wanted to know was some preferences for getting your poker cards: Would you be willing to put up some money, like an entry fee, for a chance to win the whole pot, or just go for a trophy, a plaque or prizes? Would you rather get all 5 cards while on the rally route? Sometimes you can get one card before you start the route, and three or 4 more cards on the route, then the last one back at the end. The rules for the run are currently being drafted. Entrants may be required to depart the starting area after a certain time, and arrive back within a certain time frame. There may be as many as 4 stops on the route, with one being a stop to play kind of challenging game. thxZ
  22. Higuys, I'm on the planning committe for next year's National Convention (www.clevelandrockZ.com) I'm working on a Poker Run for that event, and I'd like some input for those who have done a Poker run.
  23. Definitely use only F.I. rated fuel hose on the high pressure side.
  24. In contrast to this, I'd recommend what Zs-ondabrain put on his earlier graphic, where he put on "240Z- Drive it like you stole it." I think it's pretty much apparent that if that frame is on a 240Z, then it's not referring to some kind of rice. thxZ
  25. The electrical section of the FSM has many of the electrical circuits detailed by themselves with a diagram of the circuit and its associated wiring diagram and usually a diagnosis chart, and has been very useful for solving things on my 280Z. It may be the same for the 240Z.
