Yeah, SEM is the stuff. I just re-dyed all of my blue (faded, ugly) interior panels. The tail-lamp access panel is a replacement which was black, and it is now Wedgewood Blue......
  2. My car is 904 white with a blue interior also. The PO put in some black seat covers (with blue piping), but those seats are at the upholstery shop right now....I'm having them rebuilt with new foam and OEM-style blue covers.
  3. It helped me to get a jack under the trailing arm to 'lift' the entire assembly up just a bit. That gave me a little more room. Let us know how it goes.....
  4. That sounds like a good topic for a new thread to me, pardner.
  5. I've heard everything from 'drive it around the block' to 'drive it for two weeks to let the springs settle'. Mine looked like they were pretty much settled in after driving it to the office and back.
  6. I went with the 'tuna can' K&N filters on my car, like the ones shown in the photo. If you go with a setup like this, you would want to install air horns.
  7. I don't think it looks bad, but I agree that the car's stance would look better if it was dropped an inch or so. When I installed my Tokicos, at first the car looked like yours (I was using stock springs before). Lowering springs equals a higher ride height...? Huh? Turns out they just needed to settle in. Now I'm at roughly the same height that I was at before, it's just that the old springs were sagging badly so I was at the 'lowered' height already.... You'll be happy with those new springs. Your car is going to handle very nicely with those installed.
  8. Have you driven the car yet? Give the springs a chance to settle in before you decide to start cutting them. Looks nice overall.
  9. He's advertised two cars for fifty bucks or so, and set the price high intentionally so that nobody would bid (and therefore he wouldn't owe eBay a slice of the sale price). Not a bad deal when you think about it...at least for the seller. He's certainly gotten some exposure for his cars, which look fairly rough in the photos and likely wouldn't stir any excitement otherwise.
  10. In North Carolina, street racing means hard time. For example, a teenager in Charlotte who recently lost control of his car while racing another car and crashed into a restaurant will get to think about it for the next eight years. The only situation that I'm aware of where they confiscate the vehicle (and later, sell it at auction) is when the vehicle was used in the commission of a major felony (selling drugs out of the trunk, for example)
  11. That's my friend Keith's car. I've ridden in it and can vouch for it, it'll scoot. It doesn't sound like a Z, and by that I mean the exhaust note is quite different, but the performance is good. He claims that he gets 40-45 MPG on the highway.
  12. Man. Is it just my imagination, or has that car has been sitting in like three feet of water all this time.....
  13. No red dot? Forget it!
  14. Does your car have a shroud, Mally? Is it at this temperature the whole time you're driving, or does it creep upwards when you're sitting for a bit? I had this same problem until I swapped my two-row radiator with a three-row and a shroud. Now I'm sitting right in the middle of the temp range at all times.
  15. I got some from the dealer a few weeks back.....might be worth a shot.
  16. To each his own. Ugh........
  17. Bryan, I'd definitely be interested. My panels are in good shape, luckily, but I did buy a set of replacement panels (the hardboard is pretty soggy, but the clips and skins and everything else is good). If I can donate anything to the cause, just let me know. I was over in your neighborhood just this weekend.....my mom lives in Kingsport, and the family went over for a visit. Brian
  18. Why don't you keep the tranny, too? That'd give you a five-speed, and it would bolt right up to your existing L28.
  19. There are no screws. No hardware is visible from the outside. If there was hardware visible from the outside, I wouldn't be asking these questions. It looks like one bolt is holding it on, from underneath, meaning the inside of the door. The problem is that I can't get a socket on the bolt head.
  20. I just think it looks goofy. Especially up close.
  21. Here are some graphite Rewinds on my white Z.....
  22. The previous owner of my car installed a driver's side mirror on the passenger side of the car. It looks terrible, and I want to remove it. So I've got the door panel off on the passenger side, and what I need to know is this....do I have to disassemble the door and/or remove the glass in order to be able to reach the bolt head that's holding the mirror on from the inside? Is there an easy way to do this, or should I just start tearing things apart? I can't imagine that the previous owner would have gone to this much trouble to install the wrong type of mirror on the car....he seemed to be a low-effort kind of guy, so I'm hoping that there's an easier way. Also, are there vapor barriers available from Nissan, or is this a long-NLA item? What should I use as a replacement for the torn-up one that's on there now? Thoughts?
  23. LZ22? The Frankenmotor strikes again! I had one in my '68, but it didn't have the same exhaust note....
  24. Victor, that's a pretty deep exhaust note. Would that be a VG30 under the hood?
  25. It might be a good starting point. Might not, too, because the seller has not shown photos of the floorboards.....and if you think that's a problem area on a Z, wait until you spend some time inside a 510. If the car goes for $7K-plus, and you have to source a motor, redo the suspension and brakes, put a ZX tranny and an LSD in it....well, you're suddenly looking at a pretty expensive 510. Suddenly your starting point is where the finishing point should have been. 510's are a different world. My car was nicely done, had a full interior with new carpets, recovered seats, the works. I had an 2.2 liter fuel-injected motor, a ZX five-speed, R160 LSD, Nissan Comp springs and Tokico HP shocks, Porterfields, Z rear brakes, Quickor sway bars....the car was nice, had more than enough power and handled like a dream. It sold on eBay for $7500 a year and a half ago, and that seemed like a remarkable sum at the time. Nice, completed cars are going in that neighborhood somewhat regularly now, but this particular car needs a lot (and I mean a lot) of help. I guess what I'm saying is that I'd pass on this car, in any event....I think the price is being inflated by bidders who may think that it's something special, and the fact is, it just isn't.
