She's been talking about turbine rims for this entire thread. So, I think she wants turbine rims.
  2. Burt gets off on this. Always has. I'm just going to put him on my ignore list, ignore his bizarre PM's, and hope he gets himself banned at some point.

There is no replacement for displacement!
  4. An unnecessary comment, in a thread that went away a week ago. Mckrack, if you have some insight with regard to a particular post, it would be great to hear from you. Different perspectives and experiences are what this board is all about. But purposeful antagonization, for no reason at all, is pretty boorish and childish. I mean, adults don't ring people's doorbells and run...that's something that kids do. Get my drift?

Yeah, that's about right. Around here, the going rate for an upholsterer to do two seats (with the covers supplied by the customer) is $250.

Okay, I'll bite. Here's a picture of me.

Hey Nick, that's some tan you've got there....

Thanks! I borrowed a shot of Kats' beautiful 'blue interior' 1970 240Z from him (with his permission) and cropped and modified it slightly. With any luck, my car will look a lot like Kats' car (at least on the interior, the exterior is a work in progress) as soon as I get it back from the welder....

I just spoke to him and he has the plugs. If anyone else is looking for them, they are $2.52 each. Eight plugs are required making the total cost $20.16, plus shipping.

Hey, that's great! Why didn't I think of just asking Charlie to start with? Thanks, Gary!

Another 'kinda nice' variant of these rims would be the turbine-style rims that came on the Datsun 200SX (80-83). 14x5.5, I think, and there were variants with 16 spokes and 32 spokes.....

Nice. How did you find the car after all that time?
  13. Likely not. The seller put 'ZX' in the listing title just to get more page views. The box, clearly, is labeled "280Z 2+2".

I've had a set of Charlie Osborne's floorpans in my garage for some time while I've been working out little mechanical issues on my 240Z (and also because I was a little leery of the expense involved with having someone install the pans). Anyway, today I finally bit the bullet and took the Z down to the welder's shop, and he's going to be dropping the old pans out of the car and installing the new pans and floor supports tomorrow. Which brings me to my next question....what are people who've done this using to plug the 'water drain' holes in the replacement pans? Are they the same size as the stock floorpain drain holes, or are they different? Can anyone shed any light on this for me? I'll let you know what my experience is after I get the car back, but the guy who's doing the work for me mostly works on VW's and he was extremely impressed with the quality of the floorpans (he kept saying 'wow, this really makes it easy' and etc).
  15. I noticed that, too. Neato..... Was the original air box on the car, or was some other kind of filter setup being used, something that necessitated the round flanges?
  16. I have Goodridge G-Stop stainless brake hoses on my car (I bought these through Nissan Motorsports). They give you a firmer brake pedal. My brakes are stock otherwise, with Hawk pads, Powerslot rotors, and new Brembo drums. The car stops faster after swapping all of that stuff in, because the rest of the brake hardware is better (and so is the new fluid). The stainless lines, by themselves, won't make your car stop faster or make you hit your head on the steering wheel, unless there is something very wrong with your brakes to start with. But they do take the 'mush' out of your brake pedal. I have similar hoses on my Frontier pickup, for the same reason. You have a much better feel for the brake pedal with the stainless hoses installed.
  17. Yes...very nice, indeed.

Ping is a network tool that's used to ascertain whether a certain host is available across a TCP/IP network. But that's probably not what you're asking..... I think you're talking about pinging, or knocking, that would be related to a combustion engine, right? In that case... ...you can find a lot of information on this topic by googling 'engine detonation'. Basically, detonation is ignition of the gas/air mix in your cylinder before the spark of the spark plug. It's not really very good for your engine, and is often related to a timing problem.
  19. Amen, brother. Seems like there was a poster from a year or two back who kept making the same kind of argument.....McKrack's posts are eerily similar, are they not? So, your car is the pinnacle of perfection. Let us see it.....
  20. Nice! Enjoy it, Randy!

Auctions end high most frequently when there is a low starting price, and no reserve. As RJ mentioned, the problem is that if there is no reserve, you sort of lose control the minute a bid is placed. The time of year is important (more cars are sold in the spring than in the winter, for instance), and there are any number of variables. The real deal is finding two people out there that really want your car, and hoping that they duel it out and push the bid up high. And, of course, hoping that they actually have cash and can pay for the car....I've had to relist vehicles due to buyers flaking out, and it's not fun.
  22. You want to talk to Dave Irwin, actually. Arne designed the plug, I believe, but Dave sells it. You will find contact info here, at the bottom of the page: http://1971.240z.home.comcast.net/extras/alt-adapt.html
  23. Steve, I'd love to see you finish that '73. If I were closer I'd make you an offer on it, but it's too nice a car to let sit.

The car obviously wasn't really restored, or even really properly refreshed. The owner got it running, cleaned up the interior (he probably dyed the panels black since that was easier and cheaper than matching the red), fixed some suspension and brake issues, and considered that a 'restoration' of the car.

    Yeah. Whoa.
