  1. a new coat of paint that its been waiting 2 years for.
  2. also the title says, i live in Portland Oregon how about you? doesn't sound too specific to that city/state.
  3. i live in a small town in Wisconsin called New London (home of the biggest st Patricks day parade in Wisconsin:) ), but i am going to school at Michigan tech for mechanical engineering. i have an 87 jeep Cherokee, and an 83 john Deere sprintfire snowmobile. 1 dog and a girlfriend.
  4. i drive an 87 jeep Cherokee. decent snow machine even without very good tires on it. I've never been stuck, even when there was snow above the front bumper.it has an inline 6, so i still get around 22-25 mpg. probably would be better if it had a few less miles on it, 340,000. otherwise i would say something with front wheel drive usually does good in moderate snow fall. if its just for around Minneapolis you should be ok, they keep the roads pretty clean. on a side note, do you go to the u of m?
  5. quick question, is there a charge light on the ammeter(gauge)? there needs to be a drop of voltage on one side of the regulator for it to start the alternator charging. at least thats how they have it set up on the 280z's. not sure how different the entire charging system is. if they use some sort of resistor on one side of the regulator, might be worth checking out. maybe someone else here will have a better explanation on how to check this on a 240z. also maybe check to make sure your alternator is grounded properly, sometimes they get grime and stuff in the mounts and don't make contact with the engine block/ground. i think they also ran a wire out of the alternator to a ground just as a redundancy. again, this might be different for 240z's, but im assuming the basic principles are the same.
  6. thought i would share this with you guys, seems kinda fitting. someone just asked me if i would bring my z up to college, which is in Houghton Michigan, annual snowfall goes above 200" pretty often. so probably not, don't think the z would quite hack it up here. on the plus side they don't salt roads up here so not as much worry about rust:)
  7. i haven't even driven my z yet in the 4 years i owned it so i cant say much about driving it,much less in the snow, but my dad said when he had his 280z along time ago, i think it was around 1980-81, he drove it around in the snow in South Dakota. he said it wasn't too bad, the narrow tires helped, but the wheels were set too close together in order to follow the ruts already made in the snow.

heres my dogs (the bigger one, Jax, is actually mine). this was last winter around march. both German short hairs, the bigger one weighs close to 90 pounds, the breed is only supposed to be around 60-70 pounds, so hes kinda a giant. still thinks hes a puppy though, climbs in the chair with my mom.
  10. right now mine has a rainbow of colorful wires running through it, along with some grime from the P.O. running it without a few oil pan bolts.:stupid: and the rest of the engine compartment is still painted the original maroon color. dang i really need to remember to take pics next time im home....
  11. heres the picture i posted a while back. for some reason it wouldn't let me upload it so hopefully the link works. that picture was from last summer, shes a little bigger now click here

  13. when you do find some, you can brighten them up like i did by sandblasting with glass beads. it takes off the oxidized aluminum and leaves kind of a matte gray surface. but doesn't take off to much and weaken the rims. i think you can also use a walnut media to clean them up, but i found glass beads were cheaper (at least here they were). the picture is before they were blasted, about 2 years ago, next time i get home I'll take some pictures and post what they look like. (might be a while though)
  14. I've used this stuff to fix a carburetor on a lawnmower that was cracked and sucking air, throwing off the mixture. been about five years and its still holding and doing its job. i also used it on the valve cover of my jeep to fix a crack (not really big enough to matter, but it still bothered me), but that is coming off, could have the mixture wrong or something. overall its a good product, especially if your dealing with areas that have gas on them. about the hardest thing is getting the mixture right, but its not to hard to figure out.
  15. This is the place that the wiring kit that i got with my car came from. they use pretty quality stuff and its all pretty easy to use. Ron Francis wire works This is just the connectors and some small fuse blocks. they have lots of other parts that could be helpful.

both the books i have here say 36.3 psi
  17. 19 years in NE wisconsin and every car i drive is older than me (havent got to drive the z for about a year though )
  18. $800 for the car, and a spare 280zx engine with five speed transmission. there were many other things like bushings and shocks that came in three huge bins, but the guy also included a $400 wiring kit from Ron Francis, so i think i got my moneys worth, even if it did take a year to wire the car up with that kit .
  19. isnt there an adjustment on the AFM that can lean out or richen the amount of gas. i know that there is a plug that i can take out of mine and there is a screw that adjusts the mixture. Doc1.doc
  20. not sure what brand these are, they came on the car when i bought it.
  21. the songs called "living loving maid" from Led Zeppelin.
  22. i dont know if this will work any better then a impact wrench, but this is what i use to get flywheels off sometimes. Impact driver fairly cheap and pretty effective.
  23. i get the same thing with my jeep, i can get 20 mpg in the summer, and 15 in the winter. it is an older car (1987) and has a ton of miles on it (more than 330,000), but according to my parents its always done that. i would be interested to hear the explanation as to why it does this if anyone can explain whats going on.
  24. Was the wiring redone the exact same way? if there was an addition of another form of resistance besides the light in the gauge, you could be creating too large of a drop in the voltage on one side of the voltage regulator, making it charge too much. this is a little more technical, but i thought of this cause i had a similar problem when i rewired my z, only it wouldn't charge at all. (had two resistors on opposite sides of the regulator):stupid:

    hope this doesn't offend anyone.
