Additionally, what are the years for the A and the B tranny in the US market?

Just looked at the one that is for sale and from what has been said here this is nothing more than a stock, unmodified stick. Here's a pic of it.

The "B" type transmissions were used in the late 71 model year and after that....

The short shifter has a two piece mounting plate that bolts through the stock pivot on the trans case and moves it up away from the trans case by an inch.

Your pic shows a stock unmodified B type shifter....

Thanks, Keith. I kinda thought that there would need to be an adapter as you describe.

Ok, so then my '77 5-speed would be considered a type B and will be ok when/if I get a short shifter.

Nope, sorry, the short shift kit only works on the B model transmissions....

There isn't much you could do to the A model due to the design of the shift lever linkage on the outside of the transmission.

hmmmm... i wanted to replace the shaft due to fact that when i tighten the nob all the way i'll i can still spin it.... right along with the shaft.

Sounds like the mounting nut on the bottom of the lever is either loose, or the tapered bushings the lever inserts into are shot...

You can still get the solid bushings for the A model shifter, which might help tighten up the shifting on yours. Try Chloe at MidwestZ, she probably can supply them.

excellent. i will go ahead and do that. i need to wait till it warms up a little outside so i can get the console off and take a look-see.

A vs. B tranny. What years were these? I have seen this somewhere but can not find the info now.
