Oil Pan for L28et engine. can I use alternative?

Featured Replies

Im trying to figure out if i should change my oil pan out. give me some advice. I have a L28et out of a 83' 280zx turbo car. Im cleaning the oil pan and its seen better days....

I also have a New old stock L28 or L24 oil pan. I know it will fit, but i dont know if i should use it due to the sump being towards the middle of the pan vs the turbo pan is towards the back of the engine.

I know i will need to modify the pan to add a oil return for the turbo but thats simple enough. And i have spare parts from two L28s i can use the proper pickup tube. I just dont know if i shouldnt becuase of a factor im unawar of.

Pictures are of a stock image L28et pan, vs the newer pan that I own

They have a really nice aluminum pan that’s setup for what you need. It has internal baffles and the turbo port. A bit pricey.

Oil pans are stout and hold no pressure - except the weight of the oil. Does it have a hole in it? Clean it up and repaint it.

Thank you everyone for the responses. I have tested the fit and it looks like the pick up tube is identical to every other L series motor, just the sump itself it pushed back. I'm going to use the 240z mid sump and install a 10an fitting for an oil return.

Test fitted and looks great!

I have a turbo oil pan that is clean and in very good condition. I'd love to send it your way for $100 plus shipping.
