LED headlights

Featured Replies

Curious if anyone has used Zcar depot H4 headlights with LED bulbs? Wondering how they work and if you think they have a significant decrease in amps from the standard sealed bulbs.

Headlight Upgrade H4 Bulbs LED Option 7

Headlight Upgrade H4 Bulbs 7" 240Z 260Z 280Z - 800-866 (). New pair of 7" headlights with glass housings and H4 bulbs.

I've been using them for years. Others who have used them at my recommendation like them, too.

The Koito housings come with a relay kit. You don't need to use it.

Steve,

Your Koito link comes up NLA.

Strange. It worked for me. Here's basically the same thing: https://tinyurl.com/4444a7dr

It's a short URL to go to Google Shopping for the Toyota part number 81110-60p70

Edit: I think I know what threw you off. It comes up with NLA for one vendor, but you can select another vendor who still has the Koitos available.

@SteveJ Thaks for the correction, I was not used to looking at a shopping site this way. Are these LED's plug and play with our stock wiring?

Caveat: I didn’t do this on my Z yet but, I have done it on my 911, 914-6, 944 T. I also haven’t done any electrical testing. The lights are much brighter and there is no effect on the idle when I turn on my headlights which I interpret to mean less draw.

I used different H4 housings (Hella) and just some off -brand LED bulbs. The reason, I hadn’t done my Z was the Datsun way of wiring issue but it sounds like SteveJ has a plug-and-play solution.

These are 914-6 headlights but you get the idea, drastic color temperature difference between sealed beam and LED.

The current drop is significant.

Here is the current draw with the clearance lights (all exterior and gauge lights are LED in my cars).

Here is the current draw with the LED headlights.

So the LED bulbs draw about 3A. That's less than 1/3 the current draw of conventional headlights.

Thats good to know. I know the changing all my exterior and dash lights to LED made a big difference. Instead of the fancy meter, I used the "burn my finger on the fuse" test. No burn with the LED 🤣

Great info on the Toyota housings. I just managed to get 2 sets of housings and 2 sets of Auxito Led H4 for 100.00 including delivery! LEDs for my 81 and 83 on the way.

And it's a lot easier to change the headlights on the 280ZX, too. I think I had to remove the carbon canister to get to the right headlight, but it was so nice not having to crawl under the car.
