From the FSM on compression testing. Of course, you'll have to do it cold right now, but follow the rest.

Note that the compression ratio will probably be lower with the engine cold, but there should not be a lot of variation in readings.

will do. FYI though all fuel lines hooked up same as fuel pump and carbs....it should be getting gas...just check the little fuel filter up front and it has a little gas in it which had to have come from the fuel tank. Gas is fresh, only couple weeks old

thanks for that SteveJ. if i redo the compression test with all the plugs out at same time do you think i will get different results?

 

It is possible your readings will go up since the other cylinders won't be pushing as hard against the cylinder under test.

You have reasonable cylinder pressures and the engine is spinning.  The engine should start.  So, spark is left as the unknown.  With the engine spinning that fast you should be able to get a nice stable ignition timing reading with a timing light.  If you can do that, it will tell a lot.

You might squirt some oil in the cylinders too.  Your low pressure numbers might be because the pistons aren't drawing in the air.

Could also be that your carbs aren't working right.  You don't know that the float bowls are full.

Starting fluid answers a lot of questions.  Big time saver.

It still works, but I have to use a separate tachometer when tuning.

 Along with pulling all the plugs, I open the throttle all the way during the test.
