You are a tad advanced, retard it by a hair.

I'm not knocking your assessment, but I'd love to know how you concluded that from the video? You don't know if the car was chocked or where the idle adjustment screw is set. Difficult to see from the vid, but idle looked around 8-900.

Is this based on your intuition? Didn't sound like it was running a high idle?

By the sound the starter made, go to the vid and listen...that hiccup is a due to too much timing.

That btw is how we used to set timing without a gun, keep advancing a little at a time Until it sounds like that...then retard it a notch and its set. (I know it's not the "proper" way....but in a pinch it works.) for example....changing a cam on a SBC in the auto parts store parking lot (Barstow CA circa 1988) with a tool kit that can fit in a woman's purse..

Yeah a new battery but got weaken due to a lot of cranking to start before using the 280ZX Distributor, I will tighten the posts and recharge it. I will recheck the timing again tomorrow and get back to you guys.......When we did the timing we just lined up the magnet teeth thing inside the distributor(sorry I don't know what it's called) and made sure the balancer mark lined up with the arrow on the timing cover(there is no numbers plate there.....just an arrow plate). After that we just fire it up and Voalla the engine started.

Still though I need to adjust the valves and again recheck the timing.

Thanks guys for the replies.

I am wondering if I can use a 15/16 Brake master cylinder instead of the regular 7/8 master in my 240Z.I have 15/16 master laying around and just to save some money and maybe I will upgrade the brake system in the near future??

Alternator went out and this is a very good time to swap to 280ZX Alternator,I ordered the plug from MSA and I am waiting for it to arrive......Wow I am swapping a lot of 280ZX parts to this 70 240Z and I am lucky enough to have all the swap parts just laying around.

Next after the 280ZX Alternator and make sure it run and drive good then will be the good time to swap to rear disk brakes.

Got the MSA alternator plug today tried to mount the 280ZX alternator and it was bigger little bit than the 240Z Alt and Had an issue to mount it...the inlet coolant neck in the way and it's hard to wrap the belt around the pulleys. I will get me a longer belt and that might work!

I've always thought of you as a 280ZX guy.  That has to change now.

#6920 is pretty low.  Better leave the dust/patina on it in case you decide to sell.

Great to hear from you bud......I am a 280ZX guy but some times I jump to 240Z and Skylines...done with the Z31 and Z32 though.

Ok..new post I just got some time to make this Z run.Needs to bleed the brake system and if that did not work then I will go with 280ZX 15/16 master.

Just mounted a three piece spoiler, rear louvers and rear bumper guard.

Very nice!

You going to bring it to Williams this year, rather than the Kenmeri, which I love.

Keep me in mind if you decide to sell this Z.

Williams this year is free rigistration for the Kenmeri,so I will bring her.

For the Z I will ask 7K for it but if I paint it that will be way more..I got everything missing for it.Like Door panels, emblems, Original Radio, wheels, fender, driver door etc etc and the list goes on. Basically I bought everything I need to make it complete with some upgrades.

I always liked the SWASTIKA wheels. I have a set myself just wish they were made in a 16" diameter. Ok it is time to get to work on making this car look really good. A 2 or 2 1/2 year tear down and reassemble. That seems like a long time but trust me its not. You have a seemingly good platform but if you take it apart you will find the common imperfections most assurdly. If you don't take it apart and it turns into an everyday driver you won't have much car in a few years. Take care of the rust , all new weather seals and a decent paint job and it will be transformed. Something to think about.
