R180 Diff Splash Plate

Featured Replies

After taking apart perhaps more than 3 dozen diffs (R180 and 200s), I found this plate.

Has anyone else seen one of and if so has anyone found one in an R200.

I assume it acts to keep gear oil from directly exiting the breather tube as a liquid (as opposed to a vapor).

Since the one I found has a rust hole, I am having a sheet of them made up via water jetting.

Subaru R180's have that flap on theie cover gaskets I've seen, but not a plate like that. Someone made that for sure! Maybe a spacer for specific diff placement?

Pretty sure that I've seen johnc mention them.  I think it might be a performance part.  Maybe in a Nismo catalog somewhere.

Thanks!

It's a very thin metal piece so I doubt it would be used as a spacer of some sort and I forgot to add that it had "UP" stamped on it just like the Perrin Performance one that sells for $23 plus shipping.

I'll have a few metal ones for sale soon at a lower price and will get a sheet made for the R200 diff.

Factory part.  Originally made for the R180 front diff in the 720 4x4 pickup.  Later extended across the R180 line to help reduce gear oil venting out the breather.

John, if that's the case, then either the R180s I have opened up never had them or they got tossed before I got to them.

I've found them in all K stamped truck R180 4.38s and 4.88s.  Never in a R180 4.11, 3.9, 3.54, or 3.36.

"Spin to win" used to be a cycling moto but 4.38 & 4.88 drivers can borrow it :)
