Newb's UPDATE 280Z search results, with pics

Recommended Posts

Just looked at the previously mentioned 1977 280Z mentioned in this thread: http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/thread46102.html

The car is a 2 owner vehicle with 118,000. It drove well and pulled to 70 in 4th with no problem (it's a 5 speed btw). It needs shocks bad as well as brakes. The body seemed solid overall and the doors, hatch and hood closed nice and solid as well. The interior was clean and everything seemed to work expect the tach which quit while I was driving it. The passenger frame rail is toast, but the drivers side felt pretty solid. I can handle replacing those parts fairly easily (I own a fab shop). The roof has a pretty good amount of "wave" to it. Not sure what that is from but it's kinda strange and I'm not sure if or how that can be fixed.

They were asking $5500, but I got them to $4000 before I looked at the car. After the rust issues on the rails and fender arches I'm going to offer $3200. Thoughts?

Its going to cost him a lot more then $2K to make it something he would be proud of. The rust on the floor boards is an indication of whats hiding with in. RUST! Stay away from this car. Even though he a fab shop, you are going to have to pull everything off the car and start replacing piece by rotted piece. I don't think this Z is worth saving at this time. There are much better candidates out there waiting to be restored.

My advise get the most rust free car you can find. 3200 is way to much for that car.you will have more then that in it to fix it up. I have been there done that. the one in Seattle looks better but we dont know how much rust it has. find someone there to go look at it for you.and have it shipped.

I agree. Here is one - fly to Gainesville, Florida and drive it home. Makes a nice weekend trip.

1975 280Z five speed.

" the mechanical things done on the 75 280z . 42k . original threw out. perfect floors, no rust, orignal paint, perfect bumpers including rubber. I just replace fuel pump with a nissan pump, no longer avalible, upper and lower rad., heater, bypass hoses and clamps all nissan. asking 5500. as is. We have pictures posted to Ahrens Auto Face page"

Don tells me that the paint is bad..

Drive it the way it is - get it repainted later. 42K miles and unmolested..

FWIW,
