Just got my bumper smashed into by anther car

When I had someone hit my car in the garage under my building, I never even called the other driver's insurance (USAA). She left a note, so I got her information, I called MY insurance company (AllState), told them what happened, gave them the info, and let them handle everything. I ended up getting my car repaired at one of the best places in town. Cost a pretty penny (5x what AllState's adjuster "estimated"), had a rental car for the entire time also, but my insurance company did not fight me on it - the other company was paying for all of it (no deductible or any BS like that).

You may have problems because there was no police report. The other guy could just as soon change his story and say YOU ran into HIM, and most people would probably believe it just because the front of your car made contact with the back of his car. If you don't have a witness to corroborate your story, it's just your word against his, and that is not a good position to be in...

Yes this is what I've been thinking about, because it did happen so close to my house I called my dad right away and he got there within a couple of minutes. My dad herd him say that he hit into my car. I know he isn't exactly a witness to the event but he was a witness to him admitting fault.

I'll give Gieco a call tomorrow and tell them what happened. I didn't call them to began with because I don't want my rate to increase.

Agreed. Here is my lesson learned story: About three years ago I was in my daily driver and leaving a parking garage when the guy in front of me backs up into me. There was a car turning into the garage and he had pulled out too far and it didn't occur to him that there was a whole line of people behind him. He paused for a minute, then left the garage. I thought he was going to pull over, so I catch up and follow along side him. He is in the center lane and going nowhere but straight ahead. I roll down my window and yell at him, and he ignores me and keeps driving ahead. I keep at it and he finally looks over and says "sorry" and shrugs his shoulders like "what do you want me to do about it". Then he finally pulls over. He doesn't say much and we exchange info and go about our way. I call his insurance the next morning and they say, yes, he has already called and said I hit him. His insurance company says it is my word against his unless I have a witness. Well, there were lots of other people in the garage, but trying to track them down would be pretty hard. Then it occurs to me that there were cameras in the garage, so I call around and get in touch with security. They look back at the footage and there is a shot directly at the exit that shows the whole thing. They send me a DVD with the footage. I send it to his insurance company and they cover the repairs. Next time I get in ANY kind of accident I am not leaving without calling the police.

Anther thing I forgot to mention even to the claim rep is the other guy didn't even want my info. I only got his info. But yes lesson learned big time, next time (hopefully there won't be one) I'm calling the police asap.

Hopefully this all works out in the end. I'll keep everyone posted. I did manage to take a picture of his bumper right after it occurred (shows no damage).

Hagerty let me choose a bumper of my choice with an allowance of about $700 for it. They offered to work with the restoration shops parts specialist, but before they let the hounds loose, I found one on ebay as a re-chromed original for $400, I called all the parties involved, they approved, and I bought it, and delivered it to the shop. Finding a NOS one would be tough and expensive for sure.

sorry man. I really love the old bumper style but hey, if you're 280 still had the original "park bench" then you most likely would not have a claim.

Anyhow it seems there is a curse that when you have you're z running just right and it's cleaned and polished inside and out some dumb ars hits you're car
