Nice find. You got the best color too . Too bad about the engine, but if you could find one in the same range as the month your car was produced, that would be pretty close. I think you are correct that the engine number wasn't listed on JDM cars, so I guess no one could really tell any way.

-Mike

I also LOVE the color. Yea, no one can tell anyway... it is more of a mental thing than anything. But something is better than nothing!

Nice find Glenn - you should buy that matching color 510 as well :-)

Reported from Australia & New Zeland:

HS30 10469 has engine L24-078306

HS30 10481 has engine L24-078250

HS30 10517 has engine L24-078046

HS30 10527 has engine L24-077313

HS30 10552 has engine L24-078080

Thoes engine numbers would be found in US 240's with dates of mfg. 01/72 The range for Jan 72 so far reported goes from L24-077429 to L24-081097. So anything in that range would be pretty close.

I agree with Mike - Great color.

good luck with the project.

Thanks a bunch Carl. That helps a lot, as I will keep my eye out for blocks around those engine numbers. For now, I am putting in a fresh L24 that the PO offered me. Maybe one day if I decide to do a full repaint on the car, I will have a block ready :)

Fantastic find! The drive to there must have been equally great, especially if you did it in the Z!
thats amazing, let us know if you here of another one. id love to add another jdm z to the collection
Dam Glenn, that is a find! Good for you. Reversing the mods should be fairly inexpensive. How is the dash?

At the risk of being rude, would you mind revealing your purchase price?

-Rick/

Thanks a bunch guys! I'll keep my eyes out for another one. I, myself, have been looking for one for years!

The dash has a few hairline cracks unfortunately, but very good for sitting under a carport/cover outside for 20 years.

Rick, you have a pm.

At this point, I am just happy I got the car =) Can't complain too much!

The engine and transmission is out now =)

We are freshing the engine bay and grinding away the minor surface rust.

Here is a crappy iPhone shot of the car from the top view and the pristine undercarriage!

I threw a battery charger on the battery to see if it would charge after sitting for 20 years LOL Missing one wiper rod :( Trying to source one...

  • 1 month later...

Hi guys, thanks again for all the complements! It has been almost a month and a half since I purchase the car, and now I have finally got it back on the road!

We took out the engine, transmission, differential, brakes and all suspension components. Pretty much stripped the car and sanded down all the minor surface rust and made some temporary repairs (I do plan on repainting the whole car in the future). All the bushings were replaced, the suspension and engine parts were polished and repainted.

It is not perfect, but definitely better than when I first got it. I am very happy with the outcome. Now to do some paint refreshing/detailing before I store her for the rainy season :)

Here are a few pictures from yesterday when I went over to the seller/mechanic's house where we refreshed the car to load her up on the close trailer. We swapped the old tired/rotted Recaro and German non-matching Bucket seats for the original stockers, then I drove her around the block and she felt exceptional! The brakes could use a bit more love, but overall it was the best feeling in the world.

I have too 71 motors L24s here in San Diego. One has E88 head and one has the E31 head. Both are running working motors, one is still in the car. If intersted PM me. I can get the engine numbers for you. I just remembered I have one in a 72 as well that runs.
