i am also new to the 240z scene and i have gotten my car from a single owner but he rebuilt the engine and didn't put anything back in the engine bay (ugh) after 3 months of messing with wiring i've got it to the point where it turns over but i'm getting no spark, i've replaced the contacts, and the condensor, plugs, wires, rotor, cap. what has me stumped is the resister your speaking about, i think that's my problem, i know these coils need a resister but i thought they were mounted in the wiring somewhere, what is the white box under your coil in one of your picturs and where can i find one of those?

It's just a standard ballast resistor. Fits several cars. Go to your local Checker, Shucks, Kragen, O'Reilly (whatever it's called in your part of the country) and ask for a BWD ballast resistor, part number RU504.

The tell-tale sign of a bad ballast resistor is the car will start with the starter engaged, and then stop running as soon as you release the key from the start position.

If that's not how your car is behaving, you're chasing the wrong problem.
