How Close Are Our VIN #'s

Still not many late '71s. My red car is the only 7/71 car, and the only car in a 5000 car span (35-40000).

I agree, Arne; that does seem to be a big span with only a few numbers

accounted for. I don't know of any good reason for it, such as a run of

Z Cars that all rusted out prematurely, or something along those lines. I

could offer half a dozen cars from this website, and a few more from ZHome,

but that's about it. I guess that some people just don't want to enter their

information in the grid for some reason. I can see quite a few vacancies of

people whose cars I know quite well, but I don't feel at liberty to fill in the

information for them.

Two or three cars from a club I belonged to years ago have similar VIN

numbers to your car, but I don't even know whether the same owners

still own those cars now! Probably not, that was over 30 years ago.

I have a 7/71 parts car. VIN number HLS30-37832, which is pretty close to Arne's. Also red.

Alan, you're absolutely right; my bad.:stupid: I keep forgetting that there

are other chassis/model designations which are prefixes for the actual VIN

serial numbers. I'm also guilty of forgetting that Z lovers from other nations

might be reading the posts, such as yourself.

Please forgive, as I meant no offense. Correction: no OFFENCE.

BTW I omitted the HLS30 from the signature below since we are limited to

a certain number of characters. When I tried to add it in, it was rejected

by reason of too many characters, so I had to go back to where I was.

Sorry about that, too; I tried.

Johnny, thank you for giving all of us the "heads-up".

The last few times I went to the spreadsheet was several months ago.

Even though I had entered our data, I found on succeeding visits that

some kind soul had altered our information; and as I scrolled down, I also

found a great many errors of varying types.

So I not only didn't visit it any more; I had forgotten that it had existed.

It looks very neat and orderly now. Someone must have gone to a great

deal of effort to sort out the turmoil that had evolved; and if that person

reads this post, I want to compliment him publicly for some nice work.

I think that is Bryan's point. Since there is the online spreadsheet now, there is no need to keep updating this old thread where the numbers are not compiled and, unless you want to look through 18 pages of posts, the info is pretty meaningless.

There is also a thread about the online spreadsheet http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2751 and it is mentioned in several others, so it was just by chance that you saw this old VIN thread instead of one about the spreadsheet, because someone posted to it. I don't think anyone checks on this thread, they just look at it again when someone new finds it and brings it up again. Some people have links to the online spread sheet in their signatures, but there really is no good way to direct people new to the site to it.
