Why are air dams so expensive?

Featured Replies

On ebay there was a urethane air dam that went for 225.00! Cant you buy one from MSA for less than that? I dont get it? Am I missing something! (Other than people pay too much for stuff on ebay!)

Before Carl says it-there's one born every minute, the census ROFL was right!!

Well, I was afraid that maybe they were getting to be unavailable or something with people paying that kind of price for it. I actually called MSA and they have 4 of the style I want in stock! Im so glad I didnt bid on that ebay item. (I never would have payed that much anyway.)

actually, the quote that carl and will are referring to is not from P. T. Barnum.... :D

90% of people that use ebay are fools. If they just took some time to search around they would realize most of the products can be bought instantly and cheaper from real vendors.

Take the urathane air damn you speak of. I believe summit sells it for roughly 155. shipped. Keep on bidding america.

Oh to answer the question, Molds.

So true...if a grill cheese sandwhich can sell for $28K why can't an airdam sell for $200 ? In comparison I'd much rather spend 200 for the airdam...at least it's functional :stupid:

Why buy an airdam that will attempt to fold under your car at 80 mph and sag in 2 years!! buy fiberglass, and buy more than one...you will break at least one over time.

I'll second that Ron! Fiberglass - much lighter that the flexible units and typically cost less as well. I remember an incident with a babbit at about 60mph....the rabbit won! The friggin aid dam (fiberglass BRE type) literally exploded into pieces as there was just no safe way to avoid it! So, as Ron recommends, buy two or be prepared to buy an additional one at some point in time. As far as price goes....for the actual performance that a good air dam provides, it's a bargin. When I added a front and rear BRE type spoilers to my 240Z (which by the way sits pretty damn low) I was amazed at the difference in stability at speeds of 80mph and above. The car no longer exhibited the floating sensation.
