What's the max pic size?

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, I was unable to upload pictures I'm guessing because they were too big 1024 x 768. I tried uploading a smaller picture and it worked. Does anyone know what the max size of a picture that can be uploaded is? Also any suggestions on how to reduce or shrink my pictures. I'm using windows XP if that helps any.

Thanks

Try MS Paint. It does a fairly good job of keeping the picture clean (ie not pixelated all to hell). Just go to the Image menu, then select Stretch/Skew and put in the percents you want. Simple and free with XP. Now the older versions of MSP didn't do very good reductions but the more recent versions do.

Not sure about max size - it could be a file size restriction or a picture dimension restriction. Not sure which. If it's a file size sometimes opening it in a program in MS Paint and re-saving it or saving as a new name will reduce the size. Some JPG programs are less efficient in their compression than others.

The Microsoft PowerToys for Windows XP package has a nice context menu image resizer. When you're browsing image files on your disk using windows explorer you can simply right-click on an image and choose "Resize Pictures". You're then given a choice of which size you'd like and whether or not to overwrite the original. It's a lot quicker and easier than having to load the image into a graphics editing program.

Just installed that. Pretty cool and it is much easier than opening it in a program. Best part is you resize many images at once. Thanks Mike Dubya.

I just uploaded a 1024 x 768 image.

I don't get it Carl. I can't. I'm sure it's some technical doo-hickey. Oh, well, I'll keep playing with it to see the max size I can get.

Ed, email me the photo and I'll try and upload it for you.

PM to you with address.

Chris, thanks for the offer but I got it. I the pictures I was trying to upload were 1600 x 1200. So I've reduced the size of the file and it's working now.

The max image size for the photo gallery is XGA (1024x768 in pixels). It's measured as width x height. The forum attachment limit is the same. You can download many graphics programs to resize images (I noticed a link was attached to this thread).

My scanner software does all of that photo editing. I thought it was just a standard deal with all of them.
