I'm the current caretaker of a 1972 240Z that didn't get all its regular maintenance as it should have. The oil in the SU carbs seems to get "used up" pretty rapidly. I check it every time I drive it and usually have to top it off. On drives of 30 to 40 miles if there is a lot of stop and go traffic I will need to fill up the reservoirs before returning home. Are their seals or anything that wear out which cause excessive oil use in the dampers? I suspect that the car was driven for a long time without ever having the oil reservoirs checked. Could the piston have worn the cylinder such that more oil is lost than normal? On long trips on the freeway (100+ miles or mor…

pausing a moment to verify my connections are correct there are three fuel lines running along the frame. 1 leads to the canister (easy enough), the other two leading to the carbs. which of those two fuel lines is supposed to be supply, and which is supposed to be return? and why are the hard lines running along the frame 5/16", while the lines running to the carbs are 1/4"??!! thanks, tony

My #1 carb is getting wayyy too much gas. I have posted the following video to demonstrate what it is doing: SU Carb - YouTube The #2 carb seems to be getting the right amount of fuel. I mean I don't see it flowing out like a geyser like the #1 carb is. I initially thought that the regulator was bad (i have an aftermarket electric pump), however since the #2 seems to be working right, I'm thinking something may be wrong with the #1 carb. Hope someone has some answers. Thanks.

A moderately built L28 with well tuned ZTherapy SU's, Had this done last week on a Dyno Dynamics machine, torque appears to be 190-192 ftlbs I'm pretty happy with those numbers, but now I have installed a set of SK/OER triples and once I have those tweaked to best performance I'm heading back to the same dyno to answer for myself which carbs are better for me. I don't want to reignite that debate again but I thought some might be interested in the results so I'l post them as soon as I get them. I am really loving the triples, great sound and the car feels stronger but I could just be fooling myself. Chris

Take a look at the video below. I am experiencing a problem with the linkages or carb setting on my 71 240z with original carbs. The symptom is that when stepping on the pedal (or pushing the linkage by hand) there is some resistance just before the linkage starts to move and then it "surges" so that I go from idle to higher RPMs rather than being able to gradually increase RPMs... this does not APPEAR to be binding in the linkages... but I can't be sure. http://www.woytovich.com/transfer/z/ sorry for the large videos... I'll repost them smaller later... Any thoughts? Mark

Just got my Synchrometer/SK and took it out to see what the balance was like on my still shiny ZTherapy SU's, Well the lowest I can get the idle down to without stumbling/stalling is about 900rpm. At that idle the SK reading is up in the 18-19 kg/h scale, so no accuracy and almost impossible to see. Should I have bought the BK model with the air bypass? What am I doing wrong? Thanks, Chris

Has anyone out there bought one of these from Zeddsaver? I am putting a 2.8L in my 73, and priced a complete assy.(manifold, air cleaner, linkage,) from him at 1200. I would like to know if this seems reasonable, or someone who has bought from him to see if they are as good as he says. Thanks in advance!

Hey folks. I've always though myself to be pretty familiar with our carbs by now, but recently my car has been running pretty crummy and I think they may be at fault. I mess with them way more than I ought to trying to get it to run its best, but I can never get it. It seems like right now it idles rough at low RPMs, and my MPG seems to be really poor. (I think it is leaking from the float bowl from the poor condition of my gaskets. I have to run the engine with quite a few turns past the standard 2.5 to get it to run off a single carb as the tuning process demands. And although I've set my floats to the 23 mm mark, it seems to run out of gas as if there isn't nearly enou…

I have been chasing a sticking throttle on my Webers for a while now. Every sense I got back from the rally actually. I have replaced my 5/16" rod ends with 3/8" rod ends and actuator rod. Very beefy, I am happy with these! I have gone with a new LoKar stainless cable that is smoothly run to the carbs. I was still getting sticking and the effort to push the pedal was HUGE and felt like it was moving through syrup. NOt good. It actually felt like I had a rubber band attached from the pedal to the carbs instead of a wire cable. Humm why could this be? Carb number one was the most likely culprit. When I removed the actuation ball rod ends and just blipped the thrott…
