I just got this '73 240Z http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1810300641&ed=1015520699&ssPageName=ADME:B:EOA:US:2 and it was just delivered to my door this morning... it's a beautiful feeling, but there's something i need to get figured out before I get it registered and actually drive it anywhere: It has '72 carbs, but the original choke was "bypassed" and 2 choke levers were installed, 1 for each carb, just above hte hood release lever. I'm just a couple years older than this car, and have never driven a car with a manual choke... my only other Z was a '78 I owned about twelve years ago, which was fuel injected, needless to say... H…

i have a 72 240z that smell gasoline every time. if my windows are close i does not smell but if i open it ,oh boy, smell like all i need is a small spark and it will ignite. I trace the rubber hose already and there is no leak. i know its coming from the front. i know the carburator is not leaking either. where else can i look for the source of fresh gas smell (not exhaust smell).

This is crazy. This morning about 5:30AM, I'm driving back from San Diego, doing about 80mph in my stock '72. Engine is purring, gauges all indicate normal. All of a sudden the engine just quits. I start to slow. I immediately press in the clutch to get max roll, the tach drops to zero, the lights are still on. I roll to the side and try to crank it. It cranks great but won't fire. After a few minutes, it fires right up. I rev it a little, it sounds fine, so I get back on the freeway. About a 1/2 hour, same thing happens--engine stops, in with the clutch, tach drops to zero, off to the side and it cranks right up. Fortune was smiled on me both times cuz I COULD have…

I have a 72 240Z and recently I've noticed that the oil pressure drops down to around 10-15 lbs at idle, then goes up to 30-35 while on the hiway:mad: I know this isn't normal, I've been told that it could be the bearings. What do the Z experts think, and is it safe to drive as long as I'm getting some kind of pressure.

Another question fom the IE5.5-less Eric Bauer: _ I've seen quite a few DCOE Webers carbs for sale and although they can sometimes share the same diameter (ie 40mm, 45mm, etc), there's a second number that rarely matches. ie in the name: 40mm DCOE 18 for example what does the 18 stand for? _ Here I am looking at some detailed pics of the Fairlady 432 with its S20 engine and triple Webers. Now of course we know that the S20 cylinder head is a cross-flow where our stock L24 ones obviously aren't. What I was wondering about is why on the S20 the carburetors are bolted directly to the cylinder head? None of the triple carb setups for US 240/260/280 that I have seen ever come …

I just bought a silver 240Z and I've got a couple of little things that need fixing up and I'm not too sure about it ... 1) Does anyone know what type of screws are used to hold the center console between the driver and passenger seats down? The screws were taken out when I got it and I'm not sure what size to put back in :-/ 2) Has anyone put new speakers into their cars? How easy is it? What size can you afford to put in? (my car doesn't have any speakers atm ) 3) Did the original 240Z seats have those little ventilation (?) holes down the bottom of the backrest? 4) My driver side door can't be closed very easily... is this easily fixable? 5) The bootlid doesn't al…

Problem: The water pump bolt {one of five} that bolts on at the 10 o'clock position {71 Z} has broken off deep inside the block. Why is this bolt 3 1/2 long? Is this length necessary to get past the aluminum block? Is the block not aluminum? Has anyone had the experience of drilling this bolt out at this depth? Is it possible to tap the hole as it enters the block and installing a new shorter, fatter bolt in the new tapped threads? I am looking for enough pressure to keep the gasket from leaking, {or blowing out altogether} the first time I drive through Baker, California when the temp outside reaches 120 degrees. Right now there is no leak because I applied a bit more p…
