Hi all, I'm 90% of the way through transplanting a 280z EFI system into my 260z. I'm hooking up the wiring harness, and I can't find the ignition coil ground wire which the 280z EFI book refers to. Supposedly there's a wire which goes from the computer to the ground side of the ignition coil, however the only spare ground wire I've got is one hanging off the bottom of the throttle body? Anyone know whether the one on the bottom of the throttle body is actually the wire I'm after or whether this wire should be sticking out of my wiring harness somewhere? Has someone got a photo of this particular wire in it's natural habitat? That would be fantastic...

Hello, I recently acquired a 76 280z with the big six and fuel injection. I was told the car had a bad fuel pump. Well after a lot of reading and testing....figured out that the power/fi relay was bad. I replaced it, and now the car starts, but it will only idle for 20 -30 seconds then die. I have purchased both the chiltons, and haynes manuals, but don't have much on the FI. I have gotten the 280z fuel injection theory and troubleshooting book, but it keeps referring to the service manual which I don't have. Basically though, what I am seeing, is that the fuel pump only runs when cranking, even with the AFM propped open, the pump stops as soon as the key releases t…

This is the wiring diagram I used for the Apexi S-AFC... everything ran.. um.. OK.. the sensor monitor settings showed an accurate display of the RPMS as well as the AFM voltage... power.. ground etc. NO Tach adapter needed! So it works.. but.. one problem... no matter what settings I used... i had extreme lean spikes.. and intake backfire's over 1,200 RPM. I spent a good hour tuning and adjusting the increments... adding more fuel.. decreasing etc. I went through every possible setting I could change, without much luck. I noticed that it diffenatly works... like if I chose -10% at 1,000RPM it basically takes away 10% of the fuel from the baseline fuel map. So…

I had a fuel leak on my '83 280ZX, so I replaced all of the FI Hoses, Rubber Insulators, and the Plastic Holders. This was about 6 months ago. I've noticed that 2 of the Plastic Holders have already cracked. Did I crank the bolts down too hard? What is the proper torque on the bolts that hold the injectors in place? Thanks for your help...Robert

Anyone have a current source for the fuel line (Rubber Tube clamps) as listed in the fiche 40-1 (From Dec 74) This is the rubber part that goes inside the metal clamps that hold the fuel lines. Have included a couple of scans of the various clamps in case anyone wants to use them to document where each fuel line is going thru the rubber (Tube Clamps) in relation to the other lines. If you open the image in "MS Paint" it prints out about 1" x 1". Any other program will print it out really big. (As in LARGE.......) webdawg1

Well.. I recently bought a Z31 water-cooled T3 turbo... and I noticed something different about the turbo from the 280ZX turbo. It is the same turbo, just the Z31 is water-cooled, HOWEVER, The 280ZX turbo has the wastegate flapper ON the turbo housing. The Z31 turbo has the wastegate flapper and housing ON the downpipe. That stumped me.... I don't know if I can fit the Z31 downpipe on my 280Z ... but I do need to figure something out. I can run an external wastegate, but I don't need one because I am not going to be running much HP or have the money to buy one. Can I use the stock Z31 downpipe? Should I cut it and modify it? What can I do about the wastegate…

Well i finally got my water-cooled Z31 turbo in the mail!! Yay!! Anyway.. I needed to re-clock the turbo, because the intake outlet of the turbo was pointing straight up, so I re-clocked it, and I have to find a good place to bolt the waste-gate actuator on.. so I got an L-Bracket for that. I realize I may have to get a new down-pipe since the 300ZX downpipe won't fit..... but here are the pics... I DO have a question though.. how the heck do I bolt up my coolant lines to that bolt?? It's a hollow bolt with holes as shown in the picture... what kind of fitting do I use? (I searched for hours and hours and never found any good reference pics of the oil inlet and o…

Hey guys.. I recently bought a T3 Garrett turbocharger from a later Z31 turbo... and after looking at the turbo.. I need some help figuring out which parts are the inlets? and which are the outlets?? I THINK it is water-cooled... but I am not sure.. can you guys help me out? Is the OIL INLET correct? Is the OIL OUTLET correct? Is that center piece the water cooled inlet? or is it not watercooled?

Hey guys... I am slowly building up my parts for a kick arse turbo conversion... my latest bunch of parts i just purchased was a set of low impedance 440cc injectors from a Toyota Supra Turbo.. Now i still have a LONG way to go, and alot of parts to get untill my conversion is complete.. but untill then.... if I hook up those 440cc injectors and a new fuel rail.. will I be looking at any performance gains? I have a stock N47 engine.. with just intake and exhuast... But i figured.. ehh.. why not give it a try... maybe I can use these now... If i am not looking at any performance gains with pluggin the injectors straight in.. how can I achieve some performance gains?

hey guys, just got me a Z (83 280zx) its rough, but i love it and its rebuildable. anywho, i went to my local scrap yard and raped a z for all i could get at one time. i noticed that the previous owner of my Z removed the fuel injector cooler. the Z i found had it so i took it and all the hardware...just wondering how crucial is that part? -carlo

I've been telling people for years ,as I fixed their cars, I'm not a mechanic. And this one's got me stumped. My '77 280Z starts great when it's cold, and it is getting cold here in Idaho, but last summer it would tend to flood, but only in the warmer parts of the day.Mornings were fine. Once started it runs strong. I have replaced both the distributor and coil, due to neccessity,I need to replace the radiator and water pump as the flow is not great and rad. is beat up(fixed a few leaks).Could this be the thermotime sw. or temp. sensor or cold start valve? Don't know where to start. Thanx BRIAN
