Many people have reported having the typical 280Z EFI hot-start problem, where after ~10-20 minutes after shut-down (hot engine), the engine starts but runs very rough for what seems like 5 minutes but is actually about 30-40 seconds. Some people with EFI though, report that they don't have the problem (see #43 here - http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/fuel-injection-s30/51601-hellfire-status-release-date-annouced.html#post452357). If we collect enough information, maybe a common solution (or non-cause) will appear. So far, headers and a straight fuel rail seem to be common to one engine that does not have the problem. If you have the hot-start issue, or if you don't, …

New on fuel system: - Fuel Hoses - Vapor Hoses - Pressure Regulator - Fuel Pump - Clean tank - Rebuilt injectors Vacuum is 19. When driving the car, the fuel pressure will increase to 36 psi at full throttle. It is 28 psi when idling and sounds like it's running lean. Pinching the return fuel hose to the tank increases the fuel pressure to 52 psi. Removing the vacuum hose to the Pressure Regulator ups the pressure to 36 psi. Also ran the car out of a gallon gas tank and still 28 psi idle. Factory Service Manual says it should be 36 psi. Any ideas on getting it to 36 psi? Thanks.

Does anyone make an improved version of the throttle linkage between the firewall and the intake manifold? Here's the part that I'm talking about: I'm chasing sticky, non positive throttle action and have found that my throttle linkage is sloppy and worn at the plastic pivot up by the firewall: I know I could clean and lube it to fix the sticky part, but that won't do anything to fix the sloppy part. Are there aftermarket options out there or am I looking at a custom repair?

I was just wondering if a 1990 240SX KA24E Throttle Body will work on a 1978 280z and if it does what kinds of things will I have to do. I know I have to grind down the manifold and get a spacer but what other things will I have to do. Thanks

The Zfuel thread was getting kinda long, so I thought I would start a fresh one along with the new update. The original thread is here: http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/fuel-injection-s30/49964-zfuel.html Well, today the HellFire ECU ran my Z quite nicely using 100% stock components (including cold start valve) & of course the stock AFM. It started and was very rich, which I did expect as I just had guesses in for AFM calibration. I tweaked the numbers and brought the pulsewidth down and the engine smoothed right up and purred around 800-900. I was able to track the CLT and IAT temps come up on the GUI and could tell I was having to lean up the fuel as it warmed up…

i've been having intermittent hard-starting, which has culminated in total non-starting. the car has been my DD for a few months and i've replaced all the sensors, injector connectors, fuel lines and vacuum hoses. it either starts perfectly or starts after much cranking, then runs really well with no hint of fueling problems. at first i thought it was a hot-start issue, but now it will not start cold. the plugs are dry, decent color and all are providing spark - i rested them on the valve cover and cranked the motor and saw them all fire in order. fuel pressure at the rail is 35-40 psi and fuel pump is running fine. for some reason the injectors don't seem to be getti…

I'm starting this thread as a bit of a placeholder, moving this issue out of my old exhaust manifold/status thread since it's likely I'll need help. The background is listed in the exhaust thread, so I'll keep it focused on the EFI here. Bottom line, car hasn't run in a year, head was pulled and tanked, and the car is back together now. The car will crank easily but not fire. Injectors show 12V but no pulse via NOID light. Zed Head has helped give me some places to start - I'll likely only have access to the car over the weekend, so I can't just run out and mess around, as much as I'd like to. I'll add to this thread as time goes on with status and results. If anyo…

I'm having a problem with my 1976 280z. The fuel pump works when I connect a battery to it, and I've checked for continuity on the relay and thats fine aswell, but when I dont have a dedicated 12v, it wont work. When I try to start the car, it cranks but there is no click from the relay, and the fuel pump doesnt make a sound. I've tried using the fuel injection bible for this problem (the relay not clicking). When I perform the continuity check for the 2nd step on page 55, I ONLY get continuity when the NEGATIVE is connected to 20 on the control unit and the positive is grounded. After performing this step I tried the one on page 56 but could not get continuity either way…

I've found -6 size aluminium fuel rail stock on e-bay for $10 a foot, 2 feet + shipping $35, and can get the 5/16" x 1/4" male barbs for about $2.50 then the 1/2" size for the 2 ends, couldn't be more than $4 each. Can borrow taps and bits from Pop. $70 dollars or round about and Pallnet guy on Hybridz wants $155 for a great looking fuel rail I think I could make without the fancy lines machined into it. Anybody ever done it? Is it harder than I think? I know I'd have to use that clear sealer instead of teflon tape.

Anyone that has read my "I think I'm getting somewhere post" and other EFI post's know that I am chasing a fuel pump shut off issue. My question is; is it normal for the fuel pump to run with the EFI relay unplugged? That's both the white and black connectors unplugged. The fuel pump still runs in the "on" position, engine not running. As you can tell I'm drawing at straws right now because I'm running out of things to test using my FSM. I'm always able to find and fix any problem with my cars but this one is baffling. Appreciate any help at this point. Bob

Could somebody that has taken their BCDD off tell me whether they like not having it or wish they hadn't removed it. Thanks for any replies.

So I was pretty much just wondering if any body has tried one of these yet they come up from time to time on ebay and I gotta say i really like the way they clean up the manifold area ( they are custom fuel rails that fit the L-28, And if you have one was it relatively simple/ easy install(I don't really mind if its a pain in the arse either as long as i dont have to go and buy two hundred more dollars worth of parts just to hook it up, you know what I Mean? I think looks pretty srtraight forward but who knows these days. And are you happy with the performance of the part and if so how much power does your engine have. I'm thinking of stroking out my motor so it needs…
