I know several members have done the 280ZX distributor upgrade to get rid of the points style ignition. I have been looking in several of my manuals and trying to figure out where to set the timing. I was leaning toward 10d before TDC without the vacuum advance hooked up. What are some of you running? How do you know if the vacuum advance is going to add too much timing? Thanks, Charles

So there's a Robello built racing 240z racing engine ,L24 block, e31 head on my local CL for sale that caught my eye instantly. Here's the thing. I own a 280z and I've never heard of anyone doing a conversion from 280 to a 240 engine. It's always the other way around. What happens to my Fuel Injectors? What wiring harness would I need to use? Is this even reasonable? Also how can I find out what's street legal and not? I'm wondering about this because whenever I see rebuilt engines my friend is always saying "Its probably not street legal." -Cheers, all comments welcome.

i have seen a few motor swaps done to my car, i have seen the L28 swap, the v8 and the gtr34 rb26det done to it and i was wondering which one is gonna give me the most output and is gonna be the most reliable after putting mods into it, the only one that i have really looked into is the swap for the rb26dett if it is the twin turbo'd one, i think it puts out like 2** something and i have seen in import magazines that motor being fully loaded and putting out close to 700 or more, and im guessing that L28 might get up to the 500's or close to that knowing that it is a bored out L26 block, and im just wondering if i am getting my facts right or something

Even after doing the POR15 treatment on my late 260 tank, I still have issues on the race track. I'm pretty sure the pickup screen is clogged and I can't get to it or even see it, so I went to my parts stash at my dad's house in Ohio and found a tank that I've had for close to 20 years. The tanks is very clean inside, so hopefully I can use it in my '74 with round top SUs. The tank came with a parts car I bought way back when, so I don't know what year it is. The 260 tank is still in the car, so I can't compare them side by side yet, but from pictures I took a few years ago, here are my observations. On the outside, it looks about like my '74 tank. Just changed the master and slave clutch cylinders and clutch on my 98 Rav 4. The newer parts pushed the clutch pedal bite point way waaaay up. I tried to adjust the Toyota master's threaded rod but it had limited adjustment due to a stop in the "lump of a" clevis. I figured the 3rd party manufacturers in Japan would standardize and remembered that the Z had an open clevis so dug into my spare parts, grabbed a spare 280z master and swapped out the clevis. It worked like a charm: - same rod diameter and thread - same lock nut - same cross pin hole size - no stopper I have a feeling that clutch masters and brake boosters from many Japanese cars may be swappable after…

I'm debating swapping out my 4 speed in my 72 for a 5 speed. I've read through about 30 posts and still have questions. As I understand it, I have a type B transmission with a built in bellhousing, and an R180 rear diff with 3.36 gears. I've seen references to 2 different 5 speeds, the late Z, not sure on years, 77-78 only? and the ZX 5 speed, which was 79-8? I've not been able to find gear ratios for any of these transmissions. I understand that the overdrive is taller in the ZX trans. Can anybody provide specs or point me to an existing chart? What about physical fitment? do they bolt in with the same crossmember, fit through the hole in the floor properly, and …

i have a 75 280z with the 3 speed auto. i have a friend with a 4 speed manual. he said he would trade me the 4 speed for the automatic. should i do it, is one worth more than the other? and what is needed to make the swap? besides pedals, master, slave. any info or input would be appreciated.

I'm having problems finding a half deasent turbo L28. I'm thinking of converting my L28 into a turbo. There's a guy selling a 83 l28et without the block and head. So my question is, what do I need to convert it, and would anyone recomend it.
