Z's on BAT and other places collection
That big bid to $71,970, from a previous bid of $28,500, is still interesting. Like somebody that owns some already wants to be sure the "value" stays high. My cynical view. I don't think that seller understood the point of the question, of unfiltered air in to the newly rebuilt engine. Actually there isn't much discussion about the engine. Normally a Datsun Spirit engine would be a big deal. But it only cost about 8% of the bid value, so far.

That's what I've done I my 1/71 leaving everything hooked up and complete.

A sloppy resto-mod (how I hate that expression)
-
Z's on BAT and other places collection
But in all seriousness, it's a beautiful car. It's a very well done resto-mod, not a period correct restoration.

Well, I'm glad to be of service. Hahaha!! Yeah, I'm, thinking he should have plugged that something like 1500 miles ago. 😞
-
Z's on BAT and other places collection
Probably would have looked better to just leave the smog pump on and the hose connected. A rubber plug will do the trick, though.
-

And replied to. Something like "because there's no air pump... I guess I should plug that"

And, is anyone going to get in to the Comments over there and ask about the open port? Who wants to be the bad guy? 😈
-
Z's on BAT and other places collection
Funny, I wanted to be sure I knew what that port/nipple is called and/or what it's for so I looked through the FSM's and it doesn't show up until 1973. Is that the right air filter housing for a 1970? 1972 1973

Maybe he did what I did. Covered it from the inside? I used a piece of Gorilla tape from the inside instead of a chair leg cap on the outside. I was in a hurry, probably need to check that soon? 🤫

And the lack of clamps on ANY of the adjacent hoses.
-

Yeah, kind of hard to believe that NOBODY noticed that little omission.

This one? The bids seem surprisingly high for so early in the auction. Somebody went directly to a very large number. And the engine is not original, it's been bumped up to L28 size apparently. Although I had always though that the L24 blocks would not take L28 bore size. And it has an E88 head. Looks like one of those interesting auctions. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1970-datsun-240z-133/#comments-anchor

That open hole to suck dirty air into the carbs is worrisome. They said there has been 1500 miles put on the engine since it was rebuilt? I sure hope they didn't suck 1500 miles worth of road dust and dirt into that newly rebuilt motor!!

Thanks for the confirmation.

I believe that's the Nissan Heritage museum. I think I go back to Japan in July and plan to go there next. Didn't know about the Subaru museum, thanks.

Yes to choke knob; I cant comment on hazard flasher switch as the "Australian specification" cars were not supplied with one.
-
Z's on BAT and other places collection
It's a very nice looking restoration. However, I hope the new owner will go the extra mile and source the correct original style bumpers with bumperettes to put the cherry on top of this example.

Which choke knob should this car have? Is this the correct one for that date: And while we're talking about knobs... Is the flasher switch knob correct for that car on BAT?

Beautiful car. I'm no expert on the early cars, but at quick glance, here's a couple things that caught my attention: Sucking dirty air into the clean side of the air filter (because the did not cap off the nipple from the deleted the anti-backfire valve system). Unconnected flow guide valve. Aftermarket progressive springs. Plastic fan. Boot on headlight connector out of place and doing nothing. Later design alternator. (Was mentioned on BAT) At least one screw missing on the heater blower motor. Not as grievous as the brake master, but an incorrect clutch master for the date of the car. Also, it looks like the car had been Zibarted. You can see the plugs on some of the pics. Notably missing from the rear side of the RS door jamb near the latch plate. That's the area where they said they put in a new quarter panel. Easy to spot if you compare the right an left side pics. And shouldn't this car have the "D" hubcaps with the valve stem holes in the center of the spokes instead of being in the center of the windows?

I think there is a museum in Japan that has a lot of the old Rally cars and the one off MR2 prototype. If I ever get to Japan, I am going to need to convince my family that we need to go to all of these automotive places. The Nissan and Subaru museums are also on my must see list.

I saw these too and was tempted to get a set, but I snagged these Rotas from the Carlisle Import show instead:
