hey guys so i just jumpstarted my car (cuz i left the lights on...otherwise the car's been running great recently) it was after that that i noticed i was overheating (like almost in the red) i checked out the radiator while it was still running and the fan wasn't running. is it supposed to turn on while the car is running or just once the engine is turned off? it looks like everything else works (no leaks or anything) but i havent checked out the thermostat or anything like that cuz i dont really know anything about how those work...womp womp... anybody got an idea of where to begin looking for the problem? oh also the temp gauge rises mostly when im idling but once i drive around a bit it tends to go down a little bit but not very much
  2. does any one know what year honda fan motor swaps into early 240 z's?
  3. When the heater blower motor is not running the idle is a little rough......you turn the fan switch on high the idle smooths out. I suspect this is a grounding issue, power draw, or relay issue. I wanted to see if this is a known issue, before I begin troubleshooting. It's comically repeatable, and I would normally expect the opposite behavior. I have good charging regardless if the blower is running or not.
  4. My '73's original radiator sprung a leak, so I am replacing it with an MSA aluminum 3-core unit and am taking the opportunity to replace almost everything else in the cooling system (water pump, fan clutch, thermostat, hoses). Before I removed the fan and water pump, I test-fit the new radiator. Not much clearance: I could barely get my index finger between the center of the fan and the new rad. The blades themselves had a little more room though. I called MSA about the narrow clearance, and they wondered if there was a spacer there from dealer-installed AC (the AC system was removed by the PO many years ago). I saw nothing that I would describe as a spacer until I removed the water pump pulley. There was a narrow aluminum spacer/shim inside the puller cover. I haven't measured it yet, but I'd say it wasn't much more than 1/8" thick. Is that spacer leftover from the original A/C, or is it always supposed to be there?

Hey All, I need opinions and checking on my conservatism. I just test fitted a new Aluminium radiator one of the many from ebay, Champion 3 row. I had originally purchased a two row as I was worried about the fan, but they did not have any and sent me a 3 row instead. After test fitting here are the pictures. I think the fan is way too close for my liking if the engine happens to lurch forward but I wanted to hear from you guys. It looks like my cars radiator frame may not perfectly straight along with the radiator mounting flanges. At the top you can see I have around 25mm (1 inch) clearance on the fan blades but at the bottom this decreases to 13mm (1/2 inch). Is this far enough? I think not but wanted to hear from the guys in the know. This still does not include any rubber isolators which will reduce the gap a little but not much. Should I try hammering the radiator frame to see if I can improve the bottom clearance? As I bolt in and tightened up the radiator it looks like one of the flanges is bending backwards to match the contour of the support. Or is it time to return it? Or buy electric fans? Kinda wishing I had just paid the bit extra and got the koyo radiator at this point. This radiator is 3 inches wide and the old one used to be 2.5 inches. The old one didn't have any clearance problems. Any advice and help as always is greatly appreciated.

I have a 76 280z, and I need my ac back. I live in Houston and it is unbearable. I have purchased a new ac motor blower, but it did not come with the fan. I have purchased several on ebay, but all of them are cracked or broken and they end up breaking just like the others. Is there anything else I could use. Such as a different year,or a different model, I just think I need something new. Everyone I have spoken with has no idea, but I know there is an answer out there. Any help is greatlly appreciated.
  7. Hey, my name is Amy Taylor. About 2 years ago I purchased a 76 280z. I love my baby!! I have had several problems, but I seem to have a great mechanic who loves her just as much as me. I have a question to anyone who might be able to help me. I have bought several fans for my ac motor blower. However they have all been cracked and end up shredding like the last one. Is ther anyone who knows how I can get a new or slightly used fan? Can I interchange years? I bought a new motor blower, but it didn't come with the fan. I live in Houston, and so far we have had numerous days reaching triple didgets. So you can understand how important this is!! Please, oh please...someone have mercy on my sweaty soul and give me the answer!!!
