SU stub stacks and K&N filters
Anyone know if stub stacks (AKA velocity stacks) are worth the extra money when using aftermarket filters such as K&N? I think they're around $30 each. Supposedly they make the air flow into the carb smoother and more uniform, but I'm wondering if they're really worth the money. Thanks - michael

Police Version
Thanks for the additional pics and info Alan. That reminds me - last time I was there we went to a "kiku" festival of some sort. Next time I'm there I'll take a closer look at a police car if I can find one - or if I'm lucky the Nissan museum will be open and will have the ZG cop car you mentioned!! michael

Police Version
Anyone have a close-up of the hood emblem on the 432s or seen one up close? It looks larger than a regular Z emblem and not round. More like a cop badge. Thanks for the pics everyone - great stuff. michael

quick release steering wheel hub
Does it allow for the use of the horn? That was the big plus with this one I posted.

What's the "grant system"?

quick release steering wheel hub
Here's one that retains the function of the horn. Great theft deterrent! A friend of mine just put one on his Datsun - not a Z, maybe a 510 I'm not sure. But it should fit a Z with the proper aftermarket wheel hub. http://nar-spec.com/12630/23222.html Here are the pics of my friend's install: Column with the wheel off- http://www.datsun510.com/photopost/data/500/102Mwheel-off-med.jpg Back of wheel- http://www.datsun510.com/photopost/data/500/102Mback-of-wheel-med.jpg Stacked height (about 3/4")- http://www.datsun510.com/photopost/data/500/102Mstack-height-med.jpg

you see that shed behind the 210? That's the home of my Z. Believe me I wish I could work on it but I don't have space to even get to it. It's covered with "stuff". Basically until I have $$ to build a garage or have lots of time to push it out and work on it in the spring or summer, it's goign to be stuck there. Considering that just today I wrote a $7000 check to have my roof replaced (there were 5 layers believe it or not) I won't be doing a garage for awhile. As for the grass, we just bought this house last year. The previous owner did NOTHING to the yard for 10+ years. It was a jungle back there. Even being able to see the dirt is an improvement. I had to hack down more thana dozen crap trees among other things. THis summer we are goign to give a lot of attention to that yard. It'll probably be another year before we can do the garage - but when I do it's going to be a nice one. Probably 2 stories, upstairs shop/storage, 2-1/2 spaces (probably a Z and a 210 could squeeze into 1-1/2 hehehe). Stay tuned. I haven't forgotten the Z - it's just on the back burner for now... OH and the only reason it's out in the yard is because of the roof work. It's gota nice spot on the driveway behind my brand new gate that my dad and I just built. Michael

Well Charlie came through for me. The louvers are correct and in nice shape. It does take a little work to get info out of him but it paid off for me.

Carbon fiber rip off
The funny thing is that the tail light surround is already very thin and light metal. I wonder how much weight you save there - maybe a pound? Now if by door skins he meant the entire door inside and out that would be something. But those door panels are just flat pieces, and dont' even have cut outs for the handles! If he'd throw in a hood, fenders and hatch it would be worth it. Michael

database or schematics of manufacturer's part number
Unfortunately there is no "database" where you can look up a P/N to see where it goes (unless the dealerships can do that - anyone know?) Probably because normally people work the other way around - they need a part so the look up the number in the drawings. It's a little more rare to be in your position where you have parts and numbers but don't know what they are. But in any case, the CD could help because you could at least get to the general area in the drawing and find the P/N, or try to find it in the pictures. Note that it only covers the '70-'78 HLS30 Z's, none of the ZX's. Good luck Michael

Thanks Stephen - I couldn't get a hole pattern for the louvers but he did give me measurements which gave me fairly good assurance that it's the right part. I'll find out in a week or so I guess. michael

Fine whatever - if this isn't a valid forum then some admin should move it and make it so threads can't be started here.
