Anyone here drive thier Z during the Winter ?
Mine goes in the shed about now til April, but when I was a young gaffer I used to drive my 71 240 year round (as did my brother - he had one as well). I didn't get to destroy mine with salt because I had a slip sliding type accident and tore the passenger side open from asshole to appitite - I threw a tarp over it and never drove it again. I sold to a guy who fixed her up and wrote it off on a freeway (frontend loader). My brother on the other hand drove his for four years, year round and the car went to the scrapyard as dust - floors, frame, body panels rotted through and through - it was an embarassment to have in the driveway. Salt and Zs don't like each other. Side note - it was a crappy car in the snow, way too light - no traction and too low.

Hi From Newfoundland!
Hey Tim - you got the right sight if you need info on Zs, this has got to be the most active one in North America. Like Gary said it's getting late in the year for driving, but theres lots of people selling and they may be a little more motivated this time of year - if there on the fence it's stow it or sell it. Anyway welcome aboard and good luck in your quest. By the way there is always the the other classic Z the 280

Ever swap in your Z car?
I would swap for a sixties Corvette, 427ci, convertable. I might even settle for a 327 ci, as 350 horses would be adequate. Pre 69 body style. Cheees Tomohawk - where there's a will there's a way Oh, and I'm willing to swap an x-wife or two for a 70Z.

very hot pics of the Z
Great shots! They really emphisize the beauty of the old Z vs the beast (steroid injected looking) 350Z.

Pics of Weathershields
I'm thinking about the age old exhaust fumes question - my old girl inhales exhuast with one window down, to say nothing of bugs and the occasion bird (both type). I'ld like to see the head on shot when your done.

I think you would have needed a donor car and maybe spliced two of them together - she was pretty rough underneath.

1969 240Z HLS30-00059 for sale.
The car belonged to Steve Mcgarrell and is now sold - The engine was correct (2.4) simply a typo in the ad.

Doubler over for'd frame rails
This is a pic of the opposite side of the first one - I have been in contact with the owner, but this has me concerned that I am entering a world of trouble. What purpose does this serve?

Doubler over for'd frame rails
Got some pics for you to look at. I'm trying to figure if there is a reason why all these (six sided doublers above the rail on inner fender) peices are different. Some appear to be rivitted in, some welded, others (like my own) "look" as if glued on - others quite ragged. Has there been different processes or is this indications that there were repairs? I have looked at alot of cars and seen several different looking plates and I have been assuming that anything other than a perfect looking six sided is repair work - I've seen so many that vary from that appearance that it has me wondering if I am misinterpreting what I see. Other examples welcome. Had more pics - but they won't load.

so I'm planning to get an S30 Z! 240 or 280?
Mohamed - In my humble (and I do mean that) opinion 77 was a great year and therefor I would look at something like this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1977-Datsun-280Z-53k-orig-miles_W0QQitemZ260171268961QQihZ016QQcategoryZ6187QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Another reason the 280 is a good choice is that they are still available at excellent prices - if this ad is correct it is low milage with original paint - Nevada car (with A/C). Like I said earlier - I love them all, but in my quest to get a good 240 I have found that the good ones (out of the gate) are getting "expensive" and the ones that are attainable need mucho $$$ (so, still expensive). I am actively checking out three 240s right now that are under 5K and they are: 1/2 decent with body damage c/w numerous personal changes, good inside with twenty pounds of bondo and ? frame and excellent VIN but the tag is holding it together. If your in the market for original it will be costly. Like yourself I am dealing with heavy shipping charges and not being there to personally assess the car. So my advise to you is get LOTS of pictures befor you commit to a purchase (you could pretty well use the Zhome info to guide the search for rot). Low miles are good (if real - if only they had the 100K + odometer). 240 vs 280 well... you know and definately South western United States is most likely/best odds of finding what you are looking for.

I have to find these!!!
I take it that this is on the road to the scrap yard
