  1. Looks like a beauti - whats she like underneath?
  2. Japan Domestic Market "styling".:ninja: It's nice, but I think it's been for sale for a while.

I hope you gave the seller a negative feedback.

I think the message was plain in previous text that this was not a solution to sheet metal rust in a car. If these cars were built using Galvanized plate or as stated earlier even painted better rust would not be such an issue. If you really want to preserve your car, don't drive it during the salt season. I put my Z away at the first sign of snow and dont take her out till a month after the snow is gone, that allows time for the rain to carry away any salt residue. For that matter I don't drive it in the rain, unless I get caught off guard. To alot of our members this is not an issue, but to the salt belters I'm just repeating the mantra.
  5. Didn't they use the L24 in the early 240K/Skylines as well? If so, would that have had an impact on the engine numbering in the Zs?

This has been very useful and informative - I think the lesson we have to remember is not to drive our cars in the ocean and/or if you intend to encase them in concrete - be sure to use Zinc anodes.

The true purpose of Zinc anodes on a vessel, is to prevent corrosion, but it is of a different type than would be encountered in a car - this may help: Galvanic corrosion, often misnamed "electrolysis," is one common form of corrosion in marine environments. It occurs when two (or more) dissimilar metals are brought into electrical contact under water. When a galvanic couple forms, one of the metals in the couple becomes the anode and corrodes faster than it would all by itself, while the other becomes the cathode and corrodes slower than it would alone. Either (or both) metals in the couple may or may not corrode by itself (themselves) in seawater. When contact with a dissimilar metal is made, however, the self-corrosion rates will change: corrosion of the anode will accelerate; corrosion of the cathode will decelerate or even stop. Not my words, but certainly a better explaination than I would have provided. I have seen vessels out of the water whose anodes were missing for some time and the effect was pits in the hull, rudder and other underwater components - some were large enough to put your thumb into, there was no rust. The issue would be contact between two different metals - brought about by the extended immersion of the hull in water which doesn't happen with most cars.
  8. Good story, I wish I could get my old Z back too, but a front end loader sealed the deal. Hope you get what you need out of her (in the satisfaction department). Could you post some pics?

First - why is this thread twice the width of my screen? Clocks: I attempted to bring my original back to life using instructions from this site and the best I got was about thirty running seconds and a head ache. The instructions were good, but between my shakey hands and poor vision I wasn't up to the job. Looking for instant gratification I simply bought a quartz unit (78)on Ebay - about $40. It makes weird noises, but it looks almost identical and keeps perfect time and has been in service for over a year without issue.
  10. $10 each ? Not much out of pocket.
  11. Observing animals in their natural environment is not voyeuring - it's... well maybe a little.

Seek and yee shall find. Lots of stuff here and also check Zhome.com or Ultimate Z car link page.
  13. Have you done a search in the electrical forum? I just did one and there are a number of threads on similar topics. I have a 77, unfortunately I am onboard a ship right now on 1/2 hour Search and Rescue Standby - going home during the winter months is iffy. However I can tell you that a Datsun 280Z shop manual will be a great help for many issues, can't go wrong buying one. If I do get home I'll get a shot of the fuse box cover. Good Luck
  14. The down time bums me out a little, but only because I enjoy the site. I know you guys are doing what you can. Thanks
  15. Much discussed issue. I have installed the gear you speak of in mine (HPs with Eibachs lowering springs) - it did require an allignment, but there were no other obvious problems. I installed brand new bumpstops (uncut) as well - I haven't brought up on them yet, so I am not sure why you would cut them.
  16. It's hard to put a value (Tag) on a modified car. There is the actual blue book value, the combined value of all the parts, the sweat equity value and the market value - you know they can be very widely spread. The car looks very nice to me, but it wouldn't be my cup of tea, due to some of the mods. Why don't you try ebaying with a "buy now" and reserve that you could live with just to see where it goes. Might not sell her, but it would at least reveal the market.
  17. a7dz - partially agree - these are car savey women. However: Micheal - you read that the same as I did. I agree that we have to reread and occasionally edit our input to ensure we are not indecently offensive. When reading threads we also have to be cautious that we are not kneejerking at every appearently off colour remark. It gets slippery pretty fast. The vast majority of our members are decent people if the comments are off colour - chances are it's a miscommunication or misinterpretation. It seems pretty rare that there is a blatant intentional rude comment. I have made a couple of iffy ones. They were intended to be light, but they may not have been taken well. Dade280 may be getting shinned because he forgot the smiley face.
  18. It would be nice to see a north-eastern convention - there is an Atlantic Z club as well. It would be handy to Boston, Maine, New York and several eastern Canadian cities. Thanks for the plug Enrique.
  19. There is definately a thread on that. I had mine off when I replaced the for'd diff mount - the manual refers to it as a damper plate. It was a pain in the nuts to reinstall.
  20. It's the first 280 Ive seen with a (part) vinyl roof. Interior looks to have a mold or something.
  21. Some better pictures of mine - rubber dry rotted. Nissanman/Stephen - sounds likely, but why only one side. PS: "I could figure it's purpose" should read "couldn't"
  22. To be the devil's advocate - what is it splashguarding from what. It faces rear.
  23. The word rare is frequently used on ebay. Whether or not the item is rare doesn't seem to matter. Looks like the black paint wore off or was removed and was repainted red and blue. I think it looks weird.
