Does anyone have headlight covers on a silver Z?
Ok so the ones that are real expensive are those the ones you need the G nose for? I m not ready for the g nose although I do like the look a lot. I can live with the MSA ones, or is there a better pair out there that will work with stock front end?

Does anyone have headlight covers on a silver Z?
I seem to remember someone posted that they were making reproductions. I wonder what happened with that? I am eventually doing some ZG stuff spoiler, fender mirrors etc and I thought the headlight covers looked nice with that kind of look. Do the ones at MSA require as much maintanance? For $69 I think I will end up with those.

Does anyone have headlight covers on a silver Z?
I like the headlight covers I am getting some for my Z. Does anyone know where to get the "real ones" with the chrome trim? I know they are pricey but I like those. The ones at MSA will be fine but I thought if I could get the chrome I would.

Can anyone recomend a good Jeep forum?
Hi I know this is off topic but I thought there has to be someone here that has a Jeep Wrangler and possibly has done an engine swap in one. I want to do a V8 conversion in my Wrangler and wanted to talk to someone who has done it. I have done a search and there are I think about 10 thousand forums for Jeeps. So if anyone knows of a good one please let me know. Thanks Chris.

Nissan says: what's a 280z?
The other day i went to the Nissan dealer to look at a 350z. I purposly drove around the dealership and parked right next to the 350z that was right in front of the showroom. After ten minutes and 4 salepeople walking by a sales lady finally came up to help me. Not ONE person even made a reference to my 260z. Now I am a car salesperson my self and I couldnt believe that they didnt even know what I was driving. That was a missed oppurtunity for "breaking the ice" I mean who doesnt like to talk about their car? I would have been like WOW an old Z or something ,anything. Oh well a lot of people just dont know, but in the car business you should at least aknowledge a cool car when you see it . Chris

Has anyone stroke 260z's?
I dont understand why you are so against putting an L28 in the 260. If you are not planning on a show car who cares? Once the engine is in you wouldnt even know the difference except for MORE POWER!! The engines look identical for the most part. I am putting my L26 back in after the rebuild but I got to tell you I would be perfctly happy keeping the L28 and in fact I will probably build the L28 and then swap it back into my 260. For the power you want the L28 is the smart choice however if you keep your L26 it is still more powerful then the L24.

I think the 3 screw are from earlier 240zs and the 4 screw are later 240zs, but I dont think it matters either are better then flat tops. Do a search here on flat tops they are bigger around then the round tops if you look at the pic of the rounds you will be able to see the difference between the 2. If you are interested I have a complete fuel injection from a 75-76 280z. You would have to upgrade your fuel pump but I have everything else. I have the MAP sensor, manifold, all the wiring everything should be there if you want it let me know. Check around this site first to make sure its worth it to switch to EFI. This came off the L28 I put in my 260. I chose to keep my carbs because I am eventually putting the L26 back in and I just wanted to keep carbs on the car so it didnt make sense to modify for EFI .It was just a personal preference I know a little about carbs but know nothing about EFI . Flat tops are still round but the top is flat. The round tops look similar but the tops are rounded on the top. There will be either 3 or 4 bolts holding them together on the round tops. Here if you dont have these and have the money place a bid they will be a huge improvment. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsun-240Z-SU-Carburetors-3-screw_W0QQitemZ140141977597QQihZ004QQcategoryZ33550QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

80000 miles is not a lot for an L series engine if it was cared for properly. If there is white smoke I think that means there is water in the exahust. Now it could be moisture or there is coolant leaking in some where. Make sure the block isnt cracked. If the engine runs fine then I would start with carbs and go from there. I paid $250 for my L28 with 70K on it and it runs great. Watch ebay there on there all the time. It only cost me $350 to have it swapped or you can it yourself. Here is one with a 5speed for $499. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1979-Datsun-280ZX-Engine-and-Transmission_W0QQitemZ130135994432QQihZ003QQcategoryZ33615QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

If you are planning on getting a 240 engine you are better off keeping your 260 engine. It doesnt make any sense to swap the L26 out for an L24 if your only reason is more power. The L26 is a bigger displacement then the L24. Either keep the L26 and put roundtops on it or go for the L28 and stroke the snot out of it if you want. When I put the L28 in my 260 I took the EFI off and put my round tops on instead and I notice a difference in power and its a stock L28. Chris

I think the reason you dont see as many L26 upgrades is because in the states they only made it for one year then it was changed to the L28. I have a 260z and I recently swapped my L26 for a L28 so I can rebuild my L26. You can do anything to engine for the right amount of money. There are many people on this site that know a lot more then I do about this topic. I plan to get bigger pistons fitted,a mild cam and thats probably all I will do to my L26. I have asked this question before about the stroker L26. MSA http://www.zcarparts.com/ sells the stroker kit for the L28 but doesnt offer one for the L24 or the L26 not sure why. There is nothing wrong with putting a L28 in your 260z lots have done it. I am planning on putting my rebuild L26 back in next summer but I got to say I like power of the L28 in it now. One thing you should look into is the carbs. Since you have a 260 if its stock it will have the flat top carbs if you can get a set of round tops from an early 240 you will see a big improvement just from doing that swap. Chris

3.5 Altima
Most of the online prices especially edmunds dont include destination charges and the invoice dosnt include the hold back and other cost of doing business. Not to mention most dealers arent going to sell a Z for invoice any way, I wouldnt unless it was a left over or a demo or something. As far as fuel economy look here this is the best source for fuel economy on the web. I use it on daily basis at our dealership. http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/findacar.htm The three top brands today are Toyota, Honda , Nissan. Thats not an opinion its a fact in terms of economy and resale you cant do better, however it is also a great time to get a slightly used domeestic for a very low price just be careful because you can buy new domestics pretty inexpensive now to so check prices first. We put more money (Trade value) into a Jap import then we would on any other brand. I really feal they make a better car as sad as that might seem to some of the loyal domestic buyers its reality. I am not a domestic hater by any means I own 2 my self but I own 4 Jap imports. I will always have both because I am a big JEEP fan to!! Anyway buy the Nissan Altima if you like it I think its an awesome car. There are alot of good cars out there it comes down to personal taste. You are writing the check every month so get something you will enjoy driving. Chris

Thats what I was thinking. A 240z of any year with 15k you would think would be worth a little more even if it the body is in poor condition

If the miles are accurate is it a deal at $2000? I wonder if he meant 150000miles http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Datsun-Z-Series-Classic-1972-Datsun-240Z_W0QQitemZ160140077438QQihZ006QQcategoryZ6187QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Maaan am I embarassed...
I once watched a show on the AC Cobra. In the show he talked about being able to hang with crotch rockets. Of course an AC Cobra 427 can also go from 0-100 and back to 0 in 11 seconds. That guy is to much of a puss to race anyone that would have a chance like another crotch rocket or Lamborghini etc

Producton Date 12/72
If thats true about the 73 being the best after you change to roundtops then isn't an early 74 260z even better still? Because didnt they add even more improvements to the 260 over the 240? Im not talking about resale value I just mean in general.

Road & Track Magazine March 1977
A friend of mine just gave me a copy of Car & Driver that he found in his parents basement from 1970. In it there is what must be one of the first ads for the 240Z. I say that because the wording was something like "Introducing a new kind of economy car" or something close to that. Its a 2 page add with a huge pic of the 240 and then in the lower right corner it shows the whole line with prices, like $3500 for a new 240z. Very cool to see that ad. The issue is in very good condition.
