When you do the flush should pull your new thermostat out and put the top back on without the thermostat in. You may want to just use water till you find whats wrong. You will have a clean system after the flush and with clean water any oil mix will be seen easy.

mitsubishi = (no one wanted to team up wih them) Here in the states mitsubishi and Dodge got togather. There are alot of cars that dodge sold that where mitsu. The stelth was a 3000GT the lazer was a eclipse and there are more. Chrysler cut away from mitsu in the mid - late 90s.

True on the RX7. I have had a few and the parking brake is on the left there as well. Funny I had not thought of it till you said that. I loved my RX7s power all over and with the turbos look out. But they just dont have the body lines for me. For the corvette deal well ...... :tapemouth

O.K. Now I would like to know as much as the next guy what the real reason is but here we are. Now I have looked over my 1973 240Z with a fine tooth comb as a shell. I don’t know the history of Nissan but I do know what is sitting in my garage. Looking at my Z I see all the knock outs for RHD. This would tell me that the shells where made for RHD and LHD. The way the parking brake handle is supported they couldn’t have made a knock out for this. If they did the knock out not used couldn’t take the pressure of the rod going across. They could have made two different shells but then that would have brought up the overhead ten fold just for the parking brake handle. Now with the 240Z being pushed in the American market as a low cost sports car. I don’t think they where real worried about where the parking brake was. There is no way I can see Nissan making a whole other body shell for what at the time was a chance market. Once they made it in the American market it was done and we (Americans) didn’t know any better. Heck I don’t see it as anything but smart marketing. Honda Nissan Mazda and so on still to this day make shells that go LHD or RHD. Money is king in the world we live in more so in the automotive world. So why make 2 when 1 will do the job. This is just from looking at the LHD cars. RHD cars are few and far between around here. I think Nissan was just looking at the US market as a gamble. So why make big changes for a market that has not given in on the import sports car market yet. At the time Sabb was giving up on the sonnet for the American market opal was not going anywhere with the GT and alfa was in the class of the Porsche driver. I think they saw that the only way they could make a real mark at the time was just flood the market and keep the price down. Like VW had just done with the bug. That’s just what they did. To this day around here they are still known as the poor mans corvette from the 70s and not for its race history. I don’t feel that it’s the way the car should be remembered. But that’s the way most (other then Nissan people) Americans view the Z. OK sorry for the people I have pissed off and I am done with my views from this side of the pond. :tapemouth

The 90s capri convertable that was in the US market was a fun car. They did try with some real good options that where not on any car in the price range or car size. You could even get a hardtop \ soft top . But they where poor cars with the drive line. They are known for blowing heads and weak transmissions. Put that in with high price and hard to find parts. I dont think it had a chance in the US market. You could (and still can) find capris with a bad motors or trans sitting out back alot of used car dealers. The thing I found is if its an auto the trans will be out. If its a stick the head will be out cracked or warped . If you can find a good one you have a fun little ragtop with good MPG. :classic:

Any suggestions on what is causing the problem or ways to diagnose the problem? Could a colortune be used to determine whether it is running rich or lean when throttle is manipulated? Thanks. On the colortune. Yes it will help you with the carb tuning for rich or lean. Good tool IMO. Was the fuel system upgraded for the tripple carbs? It almost sounds like a lack of fuel pressure.

Was there stop-leak put in the cooling system? You have said the oil is dirty. Was it dirty or was it cream color? If there was stop leak put in the cooling system wrong. It could turn into a sludge and plug the system with a brown goo. I have seen it. The other thing I would look at is the motor oil. Is it mixed oil\water or is it just dirty oil? Without seeing photos of the (sludge) I dont think there is enough info for saying whats wrong.

Thank You everyone . I broke down and went to the Nissan dealership. Talked with the guy at the parts counter. Turns out he was looking for some side markers for a Z. I will have a copy in a few days.

Clutchdust. Sorry I just now saw you are around Vegas. Let that poor rusty Z be. Take a drive out near the womens prison\jail. I have spent a ton of time at the boneyards around there and there are lots of boneyards that have tons of rust free metal. The last time I drove the road the yards are on there was a 240 with widebody kit sitting on the road waiting for room inside the boneyard too clear up before it went in. This was about a year ago now but these yards have been there for years and there are Zs sitting in them just waiting. Beware the road SUCKS its dirt ( thats what they call it) and the holes are large enough to eat most small cars. Worth the headache of the road. Heck theres one yard there that I found a true steel 32 ford coupe body 90% rust free sitting on the roof of a shed in the back side of the yard. I would tell you take your time and do some hunting. Most of the places you will find where I have told you are not big on the import cars. So they are more then happy to let them go and make room for the American iron. Have fun and good luck. That is a nice find. I am wondering what what V8 kit was used. Most of the GM kits have the motor so close to the fire wall that you need to move the hood latch. Now yours is far enough forward that it looks like they fit twin remote oil filters under the hood latch. Thats one clean install killer find. Thermo-tec makes a good starter heat shield for under $25.00.

One day I woke up and looked out on the road in front of my house. The D.O.T had put a trailer with a radar unit that would read your speed then flash it in lights so you would know the speed you where going. Now the road was 45 MPH and most people drove around 50 55 MPH. It took less then one night before the kids marked the road a 1\4 mile back with a nice white line. It was nuts. All night long they would stage and run for the highest MPH. Yes I must say I took a run or two myself but that was it for me. After about a week of this I start wondering why the cops are doing nothing. Turns out they put it up without a camera but came back a few days later and installed one. Then waited on sending out tickets for about a week. Next thing you know there are very pissed off dads getting photos of there kids running there ol mans corvettes Porsches and so on with the speeds on the photos. I felt sorry for some of the people. Only because it was the people that couldn’t afford an attorney that had to pay there tickets and a ticket for 100 something in a 45 is not cheap . The ones that could cried entrapment and walked away. It was up for about three weeks. I don’t want to think about how much money that thing had ta have made in three weeks. This is about a short film made by Nissan for the 350Z called (The Run). They say it will be at Nissan dealers on DVD. Has anyone seen this movie? I called the Nissan dealer here and they dont know anything about it. I want a copy!!!! The movie, like the Z itself, is all about the car and the driver, with no distractions. "It really excited a lot of the professionals in Hollywood," Schoonover says. "Professional stunt drivers started to clamor to come and do this because it really hadn't been done before." The car is the star, and all the star does is race across the wide avenues and winding cobblestone alleys of Prague. Of course, it does it at 123 mph. Nissan marshaled 400 volunteers to line the 5.7-mile raceway. They blocked off intersections, keeping errant cars out of the path of danger with the help of 150 police officers. Bruno set up 14 cameras on the car. The cameras were rolling continuously for the entire length of the run. Everything from a lipstick cam, a "scorpion" cam hanging 5 feet off the back of the car, a helicopter camera, chase cameras, and much more followed the action. "It sounds fun at first but it's enormously complicated," the director says. Besides the 14 cameras, more cameras were set up along the streets, on top of buildings, and along the route. The hardest part, however, was getting moving shots from behind the Z and in front. It's not an easy thing to do when you're topping 100 mph and going through sharp turns. "They tried several vehicles but found that they couldn't keep up," Schoonover says. "Ultimately, what we had to do was take another Z and mount those cameras on the other Z to be able to keep up." I am in love with my Mechanix gloves as well. But beware!!!! They may look like leather and they are NOT. I am just putting this up as a warning so no one else dose what I did. I had them on working on a buddys car one day. The motor was hot and I bumped the header. When the glove melted into my skin it was a real wake up call. :mad: Now as I said I love my Mechanix gloves and have a few pair now. One trick I found is... Buy them so they fit. Then when you get home put them in the washer then the dryer. When you get them out of the dryer the will fit tight. This helps with the feeling through the gloves. They will soon feel like a 2nd skin rather then gloves. I buy mine at sears. Mechanix makes them for sears craftsman and they sell for 19.95 and worth every dime IMO.

With the roof gone I must say I like it. BUT now there is none of the real Z car left on the body. IMO The only thing that said Nissan Z on the 350Z was the rear 1\4 glass. :beard:

If your a cop and act as a power tripped azzhole then yah you will fall in under donut munching jerk. But there are lots of police out there that do care and do a job that most people dont want for very little money. I just hate the fact that they are going overboard with the amount of police around here. With such a large force they are almost fighting each other for the tickets and busts in order to make there numbers for the end of the month.You dont even wana think about going on the roads @ the end of the year around here. :mad:

One of them had found that the return spring\springs where way to strong. He put new springs on that where not wound as tight and it helped. (note I said helped not fixed) But when dealing with 30+ year old plastic parts helped maybe worth it. VS, broken linkage. :tapemouth
