  1. Found the answer: "Another note, the axial slop when the throttle is fully open is normal." Source: Itinerant Air-Cooled Forum ? View topic - Weber 40 IDF - Throttle Shaft Slop

  3. I just dug around (for a TB) and happened to find this one I bought ~ 2004 of Ebay Canada. No red line to warn so I guess we fear speed less in Canada. Here is a permanent pic of the Ebay link JDm above: Here is what a good friend did: http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/interior-s30/34543-metric-speedo-overlay.html
  4. CO Sorry i looked in my local parts but can't find it (Mustang TB).... must be in our Z barn 120km away.

Or wrap it with plastic kitchen wrap then bubble wrap put this into garbage bags tape closed and tight put it in a cardboard box put some foam reinforcement in to hold it off the bottom take it out of box Fill bottom of box with expanding foam (good stuff) Place again in box Fill to 1/2 way point and let dry Place another couple of garbage bags over the dash and foam (to make a break in the foam from top and bottom Continue to fill the box with foam and reinforcement.

You could make one from 1"X2" wood or heavier 2X4. Glue and screw the joints. Some steel strapping like this can toughen it where needed and be used like a hinge: http://www.bobgolds.com/SteelStrapping.jpg. Chicken wire or mesh is light and can protect the open areas better than wood. Also bubble wrap the heck out of it and use the existing dash fasten points to tie it to the crate/cage.

Is it easy to get the vinyl stock? What about price?
  8. I enjoyed seeing all of the original Z's at Zcon this summer. They are beautiful cars. I would recommend refreshing your car and maybe put some triple side draft carbs on it if you want more torque (but refresh and keep the SU's and manifold of course). If you want something more just be patient, sell your 73 and wait until something more to your liking appears at the right price and then own 2 cars you like.
  9. I'm in NS but I work for a Montreal company and will be there in Jan. Please send me a private message or email and I can ring you to go over restarting and help answer your questions.

  12. Early Spitfires had floats, German Messerschmitts had fuel injection. In -neg G moves, the floats raised and caused the Spitfire's engine to stop. To circumvent this, the Spits had to roll first before pursuing...... giving the Me-109 time to get away. Think of this when you pull high G turns, etc. I think putting the float on a gimbal would help (or the long buffer hose (anti slosh tank) between the bowl and jet solution I mentioned in another thread) however Weber and Hitachi (flat top) addressed it by putting the jet smack in the middle of the float bowl.
  13. You could open the float at the top, insert weights, then seal so nothing external to hang up.

even more rubber at Napa: NAPA AUTO PARTS
  15. Weighting the float could possibly be a solution to increase fuel height (and keep the float parallel to the roof at nominal)..... or cutting the high towers down and drilling new holes for the float pin.
  16. Some needle valves are different lengths or screw into the cover and stop at different heights....as you found
  17. Just wondering if the geometry of the throttle plate on DCOE's, SKs, Mikufies, etc is such that there is no side-to-side play when the plates are closed but there is if the plates are open? Is this a sign of wear? I'm seeing this on my SK's but not on a brand new 55DCO so it is strange. The SK's seal tight (confirmed with a liquid and light test) so it is hard to understand wear being a cause. I am wondering if the plates need to be adjusted right or left relative to the shaft as when I open the SK's, I note the throttle shaft travels to one side smoothly then when closing, it returns the other way to its original condition...thus the throttle plate always travelling right and left when opening and closing . This sideways motion does not occur on the 55DCO. Thanks!
  18. That is good news! most 280z efi problems are wiring: http://www.atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/electricalconnections/index.html
  19. I have a mustang TB that I bought in my early Z days before I was mechanically inclined. I'll try to dig it up and check dimensions. I'll try to take pics. I am guessing that making an aluminum plate to adapt two different patterns would be all that is required to fit similar sized Tb's. Some drillings for ported vacum and fittings may need to be made but you have the tools for that (nudge nudge wink wink.) Here are a couple of links that may help: 240sx throttle body swap - Nissan : Datsun ZCar forum :Nissan Z Forum: 240Z to 370Z Mustang GT throttle body users. One question. - Nissan : Datsun ZCar forum :Nissan Z Forum: 240Z to 370Z For the iris TB vid, I never knew they existed. Most of the flow is in the centre of a tube. The conventional throttle plate and shaft is actually a poor design but acceptable and safe.

I love silver and red as much as I love white and red. I wish the dashes and consoles were red as well. A lot of classic German and Italian cars are silver and red. Red and white reminds me of the Japanese flag and the white is the traditional racing colour. I'll probably give a red dash and console a go once I attack my 4 project cars (sigh)
  21. Nice work and detail! I saw those valve covers only a few times and wondered. Nice to see one up close. If you have a pic of the underside please post! Keep going!!!
  22. Wow are you racing or are speed limits high in Sweden?
