  1. #4 could be due to a crack in the head. Are you losing any coolant?

  5. I just read. Nice stuff. You may wish to consider setting the actual fuel levels (wet adjustment) rather than setting the floats (dry adjustment only) . Correct fuel level is the first important step to tuning DCOE's
  6. There are also mods that can be done to stock DCOE's to get a bit more performance: 1. shaping chokes 2. tapering and shaping aux venturi edges 3. narrowing throttle shaft cross section 4. removing strut from aux venturi 5. re-aiming accel. pump jet squirt Probably many more.
  7. I just read that a hidden hole can develop behind the water pump and let coolant into the oil.

Smooth looking, Spend some time on the front lower cowl center piece to make it parallel with the ground. It is worth it. On the 71 I restored it was the most challenging part. The grill really shows any ripples.
  10. GTV reminded me of a scirocco crossed with an eclat...nice Kamm back too. There was a parade of cars around the city on Sunday.... some beauties. aha: http://www.gtspirit.com/2013/04/26/preview-2013-london-lisbon-classic-car-rally/ That explains it.

  14. Isn't timing partly related to how close the plug is to the piston? So for lower compression motors, the chamber is bigger and the plug generally farther away so it takes longer for the flame/pressure front to build up and also to reach the piston surface thus it can handle more advance than a high compression motor?

  18. This forum is for earlier z cars. I think you would get more information at zcar.com. They have a dedicated 300zx forum. I think your cars year of manufacturing is later than 1978.

Nice! Perfect timing for a good summer.
  20. The 78 FSM is on that page. Do you have a 300zx?
  21. There are some interesting bolt passages and coolant passages in the front cover. If I recall correctly there are areas where an accidental fracture can cause this problem near the lower corner bolts.
  22. The trick is to get the engine at top dead center first. One you do this then do this: 1. remove the distributor 2. drop the pump and spindle shaft (move the sway bar) 3. align the dots as per the FSM and push the pump and spindle into place 4. check the alignment of the keyed tip where the distributor goes (11:30 reference with small side forward) Repeat 2-4 until it is correct. 5. install the distrributor
  23. Quick and dirty is to re-plug the spark plugs on the distributor by 180 degrees: instead of 153624 go 624154 you should be able to start it and run. Move the oil pump/distributor after you try this. NOTE: Backfiring in intake and exhaust when starting is usually a sign the plugs are in the wrong order.
