Your nearly there, just add your 2 cents to everything you can

I would imagine the late model 300's prices will go down and their demand will go down, the 240's and 260's will continue to go up in value with no spectacular change.
  4. I have a '72 240z which I have striped completely, I used a combination of paint stripper, rust / paint removal pads, heat gun + thin metal putty spatular (which took me a frigging long time to do). I had my doors and boot acid dipped. If I was going to do this again I would acid dip the whole car, there's a couple of places in NZ that can do this, don't know any in the south. I only brought the floor to bare metal inside (a common place for rust) and sanded the rest. Other places I had rust was the rear of the door sills and the boot frame. All rust holes or any bits of rust you can poke a screwdriver through get a panel beater to cut out and patch, watch these guys though, there are some dodgy panel beaters out there that just cover the rust with panels. For the rest, I think POR-15 is the best rust stopper / prevention product, I painted this every where (except outside panels), even on the non rusty bits (use POR-15 metal prep first). Keyphos is a good temporary rust stopping product to stop surface rust while you are doing it, you just put some on a rag and smear it over the bare metal. The bits of the interior that are stuck to the body ripped easy, this didn't bother me as I'm redoing the interior in tan leather but you should be careful pulling them off I don't know if this was the best idea but I just cut out the front and rear windows, I'm hoping there are places that sell the weather stripping with the chrome bits in them or al least able to implant the old chrome bits (I unscrewed the 1/4 windows).
  5. Another car that is in GT2, a good match to the GT2 240z as well
  6. Ferrari 250 gto I know of 4 places that do conversions of 240z, 260z or 280z http://www.classicrevival.com.au/ http://www.kitcarz.com./ (these guys are closing) http://www.thunderranch.com http://www.zcarkits.com/ (these guys don't sell outside the US)
  7. I used to give and receive a wave without fail the first year I had my 300 2000, one time on the motorway even with a big concrete separator that you could only see the roofs of cars another z driver waved. Then throughout the last couple of years the waves got less and less untill it is now uncommon to wave. I agree there should be more pleasantries between z owners.
  8. I personaly think 4's sound crap
  9. Here's my 2 cents: I bought my RB25DET + gearbox from Parts Import in New Zealand for around about the same price, they gave me the wiring loom, computer and the crappy intercooler (which I'm going to replace). This was the only place I could find in Auckland that sold the wiring loom and computer, everywhere else just cut them off when they sold the engine for some reason? It didn't come with a radiator and they cut a few bits off the engine like the power steering and A/C but that didn't matter to me as I wouldn't have used it anyway. You can get away with bolting the Z gearbox mount onto the skyline gearbox, then the skyline engine mount holes line up with the Z engine mounts on the steering column. I was going to get an engineer to make the engine mounts but nobody seemed to want to do it (I guess there's not much money to be made by them). So I used a combination of the aluminium skyline engine mounts and some wedge shaped mounts I made myself to attach it to the Z rubber mount piece. Making the mounts inspired me to do the oil pan as well so I cut up and welded the skyline oil pan to make the engine fit, I don't know if this is the best idea but the volume is the same so it should work. I still looking into a radiator (I will probably get a new core for the Z radiator and a couple of electric fans), new intercooler, wiring it to the Z dashboard and connecting the odometer. The Z odometer is a mechanical system but the skyline gearbox looks like it is electrical, do you have any advice on this Cuong Nguyen?
  10. In reply to Alfadog and RossT: The 280 N/A were imported but the 280 turbos were not, there are a few 280 turbo here but they were probably either N/A to begin with and turbo'd later or specially imported.

What year was the 300, there about $9000NZD here for a mint condition '89's to '93's, $6000NZD for a shabby one, I just sold my '90 300zx N/A for $8000NZD couple of weeks ago
  12. I about to buy some wire wheel knock on mags off them, they are changing ownership on the 19th of july some other similar webs: http://www.classicrevival.com.au/ http://www.thunderranch.com/ http://www.zcarkits.com/

The tripple carbs won't do much on standard cams, you would probably want to bore them out another 2mm as well
  14. 240z are light 2355lbs (compared to a 280zx with it's 2825lbs), with a lot more weight reductions you can do (although v8's weigh heaps)

anyone else have an opinion on this?, I'm quite interested in this subject.

Take a look at what the rest of this site is about, what's your opinions on this?
  18. Someone here has done that before, Big Mac I think
  19. just guessing here but: A well tuned L24 will cost a bit and probably only put out about 200 ish gross hp An L28 na well tuned which would probably cost just as much will probably put out around 240 ish gross hp An L28 turbo with the boost wound up a bit, (10psi with out an intercooler or 15psi with one is about as high as you can go on a T03 turbo) would probably put out around 240 (@10psi) to 330 (@15psi) ish hp (at the flywheel) not too sure about the wiring but an auto electrician should be able to handle it take a look at these web sites: http://www.usq.edu.au/users/degroot/240z/ http://www.zhome.com/ http://www.geocities.com/spized1969/ http://www.eng.fsu.edu/~jthagard/otherzs/otherzs1.html
  20. tell him it's an investment, it's a classic car and kept tidy they can only increase in value.
  21. just adding on to the other posts, get it checked but it will be around 2mm (42mm)
  22. 240 5 speeds, 260 5 speeds and I think the 280 5 speeds fit.
  23. looks tidy, was there an option for sun roofs or has someone done that after market?
  24. ???

Ivan replied to driftmunky's topic in Open Chit Chat
stock 240z is stated at 150hp but that is gross hp, by today's standards I think it is really about 137hp (SAE hp).

hmm, turbo's usually make the compressed air temp 120-180 deg C and petrol explodes around 232-282 deg C. I suppose a gap of 50 deg C is ok but I don't know what fuel-air mixture would do to a turbo though
