  2. This stuff is flaking off on mine too. Is it purple/blue behind the chrome? Mine is for some reason. How rare is the red interior?

Hey thanks, The cam oiler is not for a 240z engine, it is for an L28 with an N42 head, but I think I understand. There are no holes in the rebello cam that the N42 has.

I was doing some reading the other day and was reading about different heads. I saw that the most of the 240z's used E88s and the early ones used the rare E31. Well, I got a bunch of heads when I recently bought my second 240, and I thought I should check out some in my garage. What do ya know! One is an E31! Is this head worth replacing the E88 on a stock 240z? Ps: How do I know if I need a cam oiler?

    Damn! those are really cool!
  7. Is the z barn in tennessee still around??? I have some old recipts
  8. I am replacing the head on my 240z. The current engine is an 1983 L28. The old n47 head is currently off the car and the N42 is ready to go. I was going to order gaskets from MSA but the gasket on the car is a Felpro. What head gasket should I use with the N42. Will the compression be different? I also heard gaskets with metal are bad, is this true? Thanks Ps, While the head is off, do I need a cam oiler with a robello cam? It was on the N47 with a crane cam.
  9. Daniel you are correct. When I typed mine, I did not notice your recent reply! Thanks
  10. Never mind, I have fixed the problem. The thing i am talking about, is not stock, and i dont need it because I just got an original wheel. It was like an adapter for the aftermarket steering wheel. When posting a picture what do i put for the URL? :nervous: Thanks
  11. I took off the steering wheel on the z I just got. It was an old aftermarket wheel, maybe like a grant gt? The large center bolt was loose, so i removed it. One of the three smaller bolts were loose and I took it off too. Now the problem, the other two smaller bolts were on there really tight, but i was able to take them off. The two bolts stripped the plate that the wheel bolts on to. The one that says "top" on it. Now I have two bolts with surrounded by metal, not a big problem, and that plate with two big freaking holes. What should I do? Help
  12. I must be very weak!!! Thanks!!! :stupid:
  13. Well, me being only 16 has some faults. I got my permit in july, and have been dviving the family nissan maxima (2000 SE 5 speed stick). Lately the 240 has been running poorly, and dad didn't want me to drive it. Yesterday we got it running a little better and I finally drove it. WHAT IS WITH THE STEERING!!! I knew it would be heavy, but damn!!! My dad says the steering assist does not work very well amy more, and it used to be better. How should the steering assist be fixed? Thanks Dan Ps; nonetheless, it was way, way better than the maxima!

Hey this is extreamly stupid, but I just bought a 1973 240z and i dont know how to post pictures!!! :stupid: Please tell me how!!! By the way, Its my first very own z, it will sleep nicely next to its brother (my dad's 1972 240z in the avitar) in the recently cleaned garage durring the winter. I have been doing work on my dad's car for some time, but he wouldn't let me do heavy duty stuff, so we bought another!!! I'll soon have many posts and questions.
  15. Thanks for the help. The car I am getting does not run, and it needs quite a bit of work. There is little rust on the car though, my main reason for getting it. Its going to be alot of work for me, but I really love these cars. I will be buying the gaskets this week, as I will be getting the car on November 7th. Thanks, Dan Ps: How do you post pictures? :stupid:
  16. The whole head was reconditioned. The valves were reseated and nismo exhaust valves were installed. He also installed a robello (is that correct?) cam. Besides the head gasket, will i need any other new parts? Thanks, Dan
  17. I am buying a 1973 240z. The guy who is selling it to me has done lots of modifications to the car, L28 engine with flat top pistons, ZX 5 speed, Tripple Webbers, among others. The car comes with lots of parts including an n42 head complete and ready to go. The current head is from a maxima and i am told that it has a really bad cam. Like one of the lobes are messed up. I want to put on the n42 before I start the motor. When I put on the n42, what precautions should I take? I have a few books, but are there any tricks or tips that I should know? Help would be great Dan Wetmore
  18. very helpful Now that i know its not to serrious, I think I'll be getting a z... thanks, dan
  19. I went to go look at a 240z today just north of pittsburgh (FINALLY!) and it seems quite nice. the floor pans have been replaced and there is very minor rust on the rocker pannels. There was just one thing that concerned me, there are some cracks on the "B" pillar of the car. They seem to be slightly deeper than the pant, but not much so, and there is no rust around them. The current owner said that they were there since he purchased the car in 1981. Could this be stress from the frame? I am looking to buy the car soon, so please respond! thanks, dan
  20. thanks. It kind of makes me sad. I really wanted one, but when the right one comes along I'll know. I will probably look back and be glad I did not buy this one. could you tell me more specifically what is wrong so next time I will know? thanks for the help dan
  21. i found this 280 on ebay. I did not bid and someone won, but they never followed up on the car. I contacted the owner, and i really want to buy it. I just want you guys to look at it and make sure the rust is not that bad. The engine and interior look really good to me. there are pictures here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2491560197&rd=1 makes sure you look at the extra pictures link i need to hear back soon, i dont want to keep the guy wating thanks dan

i was just wondering the difference on the bumpers on the 75 280 and the 78 280. Is it possible that the bumpers on a 280 be swaped with an orginal 240 rear bumper? I dont mind the 5 mile bumpers on the front of a 280 but i am not fond of them on the rear. thanks dan Ps: what are some things to look for when buying a z, more specifically a fuel injected 280?

There are lots of z cars out there but living here in pa not alot of z stuff is around. I really need a car any 240 to 280. this is not a wanted ad, i just want to know how much it costs to have a car shipped. I dont know where i will get the car, but about how much would it cost if i were shipping from california to Pa. Florida to Pa? After i know this it will be more easy for me to purchase a car
  25. I checked the level of the oil, it seems just right. Maybe about two months ago new oil was put in, and i am not sure if the weight is correct. Can oil go bad just sitting in a container? Because the can for the oil I used looked old and it did not say the weight. thanks for the help
