Jezze, Have you checked your float-bowls? How 'bout the fuel filter? I was having the same thing on my 71, and I eventually swapped out the mech. fuel pump and made sure the floats were right and now the thing purrs.

DAMN that SUCKS!! I have most of the parts you need, the hoods need more work than I want to put into them, but I can help!

I wish I would have known that. I sold mine for $9.00 2 months ago!!
  4. Hey, Arne!! Have you set up your merchant PayPal account yet? It's real easy (and free). But, there is a 2-3% fee when you receive payment. I would LOVE to order an adapter.
  5. Any updates/pics? I have an injected 3.0 I have been brainstorming about....

IF anyone's interested, there is a pair of '71 seats on Ebay for $50. The ad reads that they are stock, but they don't have the vents. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1971-Datsun-240z-Seats_W0QQitemZ8040382029QQcategoryZ33701QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
  7. That is the way we are, as well. Unfortunately, one can feel the rats abandoning ship and heading for the hills, literally! Do you plan on attending any of the events on the ZONC calendar?

Hey, Jesse. I agree completely with what Arne stated in his last post. I wouldn't worry about the wires, but the plugs may be suspect. NGKs are your best bet. What sort of ignition are you using? Worn points may be a place to look, as well. [edit] I just had a horrible bout with my carbs, but using Arne's, JMortensen's and EScanlon's advice steered me in the right direction!!
  9. Thank you, Montoya Fan! I shall do that! BTW, the Wife and I drove the circuitous route from Oroville around the Feather river through Quincy and back out to 80 about a year ago, and I can't get her to quit buggin me to move there! We passed by a lot with nothing but dead cars on it, all for sale. She say the 56 caddy that read "she's a runner" on it. That's what she wants. What's up with that place?
  10. I have tried to contact the Capital Z club, to no avail. Are there any functions/activities/club meetings going on in the greater Sacramento area? Thanks! Mat

Please make sure you ingest a BUTTLOAD of caffeine before you insert the Just SUs video...I have had the thing for over a year, and I still haven't seen it in it's intirety!
  12. The flip side to having the "perfect emitter" is that it is also the "perfect absorber," as well. Having something reflective will reduce the amount of energy gained, but I would think it would be so vanishingly small that it wouldn't create an issue. Annodizing would negate this issue, but like Jmortensen said, it's overkill.

V12Horse, Have you solved your problems with the milage (if that was a problem for your car)? Check out this thread on easy tune-ups: http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20319&highlight=float+bowl Ensuring the correct float height will allow for a better fuel delivery to the carb. Good luck!

Hey, all! Clutchdust... I just had some nightmare probs with my carbs. I had the same stall out at 55-60 MPH, no matter what gear the tranny was in. At first I thought it was the fuel filter. After swapping out 4 in 3 days, I decided it must NOT be the filter! I was running Marvel Mystery Oil in the domes, which, apparently was far too light. I tried 10w-40 weight to see the opposite end of the spectrum, and what a difference!!! I think the slower raising of the pistons atomizes the intake air/fuel mix better. I also read in a manual on SUs that one needs to make sure the float level is correct in order to maintain a proper fuel delivery. In order to check for correct float settings, take the cap off the float bowl, invert, and measure the top (now bottom) of the float, which should be at 10.1mm above the lid at the front and rear of the float. I then re-adjusted the mixture screws to 2 1/2 turns from all the way up. The car runs fine now. Even gets better fuel economy.
  15. Where are you located, HizAndHerz? I was just at the rocklin pick and pull on Saturday and there was a nice bodied (just a small amount of cancer in the tail and the hood and front wheel well)73. It had an L28 block with the 240 skin. Easy to swap the 280 hood!
  16. In CA, the car needs to be 75 or older to be exempt from smog regulations. I have a 76 BMW that is sitting ROTTING because of this stupid law that the DMV has. It used to be that the car had to be 30 years old or older, no longer (of course they changed the law the year before my car was to be exempt!). [edit] oops, I missed the part that you were in Mass.
  17. Mine is a 1/71, and I have impressions along the steering wheel spokes, no holes. strange
  18. I agree!! I had all my carpentry tools stolen out of the back of my truck (with a locked snugtop) in Fresno. The cop gave me some BS answer that he couldn't life prints, the truck was too dirty. There was a PALM PRINT, with fingerprints, on the slide window, going from the bed into the cab. Foot prints all around. He took some pics, said that the tools were probably at some auction or flea market 300 miles away. If nothing's dead, the cops don't care.
  19. I agree. the color black was termed the "perfect emitter" in PChem class. I have a ZX radiator in my 240, It does fit, and it is a bit lower than the front valance. I am seriously contemplating adding oil lines to the extra interior core for the extra cooling. I just have to be vigilant about those parking blocks! The reason the UBC went to Cu instead of Al was due to the fact that the Al alloy has a lower melting point than the Cu alloy, and would melt, then spark and create fires.

It's always in the last place you look!
  22. I can relate, Arne. After 2 1/2 years of owning my car, the "free" weekends of the past 6 months have been devoted to getting the MatMobile running. I don't know if it's the extra hormones (she's 16 weeks pregnant) or what, but she seems to be increasingly irritated the more I go out to tinker. Don't get me wrong, she likes older cars about as much as I do, in fact, she found this one for sale. It's all a balance, like AlfaDog stated. Now if I can just find a way to take work out of the balance equation and still get paid....
  23. Uhhm, How many cars is "too many"? It looks as if they got about 10 dead cars in the backround!

Thanks, Kenz240z! I am trying to get the car in a decent condition before the baby is born because I have a feeling I won't have much time for the next 18 years, or so...

I read the same thing that Rick stated on the website, I think it was http://www.carcareonline.com/viewarticle.aspx?art=5 I thought about using polish after the glaze, before the wax, but the guy at the autobody finish place where I bought the stuff told me that the glaze is just a bit more abrasive than the polish, and would strip the grime, wax, bird stuff, whatever, easier than the polish would. And then the wax would fill in the low spots.
