  1. No, the Master Brake Cylinders on all 240Z's are NOT the same. 70-71 used one type, and 72-76 used a different type. The reservoirs (and valving inside the MBC) for the Front and Rear brake circuits are reversed (from the earlier version) on the 72-76 version. If someone switches to the newer version, they must carefully rebend the fluid lines that connect to the MBC to make sure the correct reservior (and valving inside the MBC) services the correct circuit. The Front Calipers need more fluid (relative to the RWC) to operate. It is important for proper brake function.
  2. In my county (Alameda in Nor Cal), when you show up at 8AM you sign up for court(they will sign up around the first 50 people in line, the rest can wait outside of court to see if there is enough time at the end of the day to be seen) then you wait in the courtroom for your case to be called. At that point you have a choice: 1. You can plead guilty with an explanation (and proof of correction if necessary), and hope for a fee reduction. OR 2. Fight the ticket which will cause your case to be postponed to another day so that the cop can be notified to appear (he WILL show up most times) and you will loose most of 2 days of work (plus whatever fines you may or may not end up with). It's as much REVENUE GENERATION as it is LAW ENFORCEMENT around here.
  3. Yes, I can confirm that for you. My original 11/71 production steering knuckles work with the currently available balljoints. As posted earlier, the change occurred sometime in the 1970 (or possibly early 71) timeframe. I believe that it was 09/71 that marked the addition of the retactable belt pockets. My 11/71 Z has pockets w/ non-retractable original belts installed. The retractable belts became a requirement for of the Motor Vehicle Safety Standards in the US beginning in 01/72 production from what I've read and seen in cars. Zhome.com info about this is HERE (see Note #4)
  4. Hi Marty: I think it may have been both parts (steering knuckles and ball joints) that changed. The reason I say this (in addition to a faint memory of it) is that the MSA catalog suggests that owners of 1970 call to speak to an associate in regards to both parts. For tie-rod ends they mention only one part, which may be the newer type.
  5. I believe that it was sometime in the 1970 mfg year that the changed. I do know for sure that my 71, 72, and 73 model 240Z's owned over the past 30 years all came with the same steering knuckles, which are still available through MSA, and (I believe) Nissan.
  6. My 11/71 production date (1972 titled) 240Z came with non-retractable, but WITH shoulder (3 point) belts.
  7. It appears to me athat your car was built in Mar/Apr 1973 and would definitely be a 73 model 240Z. http://zhome.com/IZCC/ZRegisters/classic.htm From data gathered from actual cars, reported by actual owners, The 240Z Register at ZHome.com reports: VIN: HLS30 150630 Production Date:03 / 73 Color Body /Int :901 Silver / Black Orig.Eng.Number:L24-159996 IZCC Member#:Enid, OK, USA Comments: Father purchased the car new Date Registered: 3 Feb. 00 VIN:HLS30 157327 Production Date:? / 73 Color Body /Int :Blue / White Orig.Eng.Number:L24 169047 City/State/Cntry:Atlanta, GA,USA Comments:Has A/T Date Registered:5 May 00 VIN:HLS30 157534 Production Date:04/73 Color Body /Int :Silver / Black Orig.Eng.Number:L24-169135 City/State/Cntry:Rochester, NY USA Date Registered:22 Mar. 99
  8. I think his shipping price of $20 is a joke regardless of what his product will do, or not do. Due to his "packing profit into the deal" with the overpriced shipping, I wouldn't buy a beer from him.

Not pickin on you, Bill but........ For your own safety, you gotta learn to tell the difference between 62mph and 45mph, and the type of street that has different the speed limits. Did the other car get a ticket too?
  11. Thank you very much kats! It was not I who deleted my post. Someone in "management" must not have a sense of humor.

I'm just envious because you get to handle "hot breats" all day, and you get paid for doing it.
  15. Don't expect that documentary to be 100% accurate in any aspect of the info presented. You'll find better information on the www.ZHome.com website. (if you are reffering to a North American spec car)

Got to agree with that, no question about it. (It's teachers that want boring days)
  17. That's one of the more sought after early heads. Worth some money.
  18. In that post (the one you recently quoted) you are correct. I was refering to the #1 post as I didn't see the one that you saw. Had you initially quoted the post that you were referring to, I would have understood your statement more clearly.

I think what you are seeing are the LUGNUTS in Ricklandia's picture. I have never seen a 240Z (except honest to god IMSA Race Cars) with real Knock-Off Hubs fitted.
  20. I think he was referring to the various Chevrolet Camaro models. RS, SS, and Z-28

those look like "more spokes" to me.
  22. ......and so does the design of the Z33.

Well, opinions vary. See this article which was published in SportZ a few years ago. http://www.jrdemers.com/280ZX/tankvents/tankvents.html According to the author's information, Copper reacts with the sulphur in fuel and should be avoided. There have been statements made by others as well speaking of similar issues. I find no need to use copper since there are many other alternatives in the cases that I have encountered.
  24. Well, your car is not alone. There are many 240Z cars out there with a different engine than the one it was born with.

When I rebuilt my Fuel System, I bought only that hose, and used generic fuel/oil hose everywhere else. Since the first hose lasted 30+ years, I don't think I'll have to worry about the new one in my lifetime. I sure am not a chemist either, but the people who were warning, sounded like they were more knowledgable on the subject than I, so I that's why I relayed the info.
