Hi Carl, Yes, I agree with you, it's a shame this gentleman received bad advise on painting his very low mileage '73 with the early #907 Racing Green instead of the correct #113 Green Metallic. It appears that this person must have had his own desire or hidden agenda to make this gentleman's Z look like an early one with the 907 paint and the "D" hub caps. But unfortunatley, it was at the owner's expense.

I love B& W photography. In fact, I have a number of framed Ansel Adams pictures in my office where I work. I think it would be great if a member took some b&w digital pics of an original Series I 240Z with the original "D" hubcaps and a beautiful model standing next to the car with a late '60s hairdo and mini-skirt! ....or maybe a picture(s) like this already exists somwhere in the old Datsun advertising archives!

I certainly respect both of your opinions Carl and Chris. All I can say is that in just the past 2 years since my son and I purchased our two 240Zs, the overall values of all 1 thru 5 cars have increased nicely and that is a very good thing for all of us!

Like ZSaint, I painted mine black also. They may not be "factory correct", but I agree, they look a lot better that way!

I had the same trouble with one of the screws. It was stripped out and I don't have an impact driver, so I used Vise Grips to take it out.

AWC, I have been watching the BJ (Scottsdale) Auctions on the Speed Channel for a number of years now and the cars that have done the best by far are the muscle cars. There were a lot of them made back in the mid-to-late '60s and early '70s (nearly 82,000 '67 GTOs made & 88,000 '68 models). These muscle cars have gone through the roof over the last few years. You can restore one for $40k then turn around and sell it at BJ for $75k to $80k. The typical BJ buyer is wealthy and is of the youngest of the pre-Baby Boom generation (in their sixties) or is of the older half of the Baby Boom generation (born 1946-1956 or in their fifties) the vast majority of these guys are only interested in American cars and mostly muscle cars. The younger half of the Baby Boomers (born 1957-64 or in their forties) and the older Generation X buyers (in their thirties) who have owned Japanese cars or currently own Japanese cars will become come to the forefront as the older buyers start to fade. Once this starts to happen, you will see more 240Zs at BJ.

Xray, If you decide to put your Z up for auction through BJ, I would recommend that you bring it to the granddaddy of all auto auctions -in Scottsdale. There are a lot more potential buyers there and a lot more from the West Coast, where people are more familiar with classic 240Zs.

With just 2 1/2 days left and it's only at a lousy $162.50 at the time of this posting. Surely, someone wants to buy a sub-1000 240Z. If it wasn't so far away, I would consider buying it and putting it in storage until my other 2 are complete. You just don't see 240Zs with VINs this low for sale very often.

Mostly in the garage, but I do have some parts in spare bedroom closet of our finished basement...speaking of basements, why aren't they shown as a choice?

As Carl Beck stated in another thread earlier tonight ("#913 on Ebay"), it looks like pristine 240Zs are certainly gaining in value and will continue to do so as long as the economy stays good and interest rates stay low. That is good news for all of us, because of the "trickle-down" effect.

The second one shown, #4812 sold for a whopping $20,000.00!

The subject car was sold for $18,000.00.....what do you guys think -a bargain for a Vintage Z Program car? Or just about the right price since it was unfinished?

Those aren't in very good shape and would take a lot of work to restore. If they were the "D" hubcaps, however, they would be worth buying & restoring since 'D" hubcaps are so rare and valuable ("D's" were only available on '70 & '71 240Zs). Eric, Yes, good eye...now that you mention it, that is a Series I steering wheel......not sure what it's doing on a '72.

You guys are missing my point. The guy started the bidding at $5k, which was a good place to start, but he set the Buy-it-now too low. Why not eliminate the Buy-it-now and let it go the full 7 days and see what happens? Obviously, the Buy-it-now was too low since it was snagged in just 1 day, and we all know that it was worth more than that. I just think that the guy didn't do his due diligence researching the market, that's all.
