It isn't the best picture: http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=29801&ppuser=6558 and I'd like to get them recovered some day but I do like the way they look in the Z. Similar outline to the stock seats.

There was a guy with a 71 sitting in his yard close to where I lived years ago. From what I could see it was decently solid and my Z had rust issues among other problems. I asked him what he wanted for it and got one of those wonderful "Make me an offer" answers. The fun was that no matter what I offered it wasn't enough and as the offer climbed he decided it was something that he wanted to hold onto. I thought I had it the one time I called and his wife answered. I figured when I told her I was calling about the car she'd give him the push to sell it. But no luck. I quit going past there since I'm guessing it is still there today, just with much more rust. Oh well, it only took me 16 more years to find my current Z.

I wish they would indicate in the catalogs and online what was original and what wasn't.

great, with my addiction to all things polish, I have to get some now.

on my wheels I did light wet sanding with 1500 grit then 2000 grit paper. Then switched to eagle1 polish on a Mothers powerball mini until it shreaded. Losing hope at that point I switched to Mothers Billet polish: http://www.mothers.com/02_products/05106.html and a couple drill mounted buffers from the local Harbor Freight: http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=34743 http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?itemnumber=65001 on the other 2 wheels I've done so far I did more sanding, even starting with 600 paper, since as they said above the polish won't take out much of an imperfection. With the finer grit papers I find it easy for it to gunk up with stuff and actually leave some pretty bad scratches if I don't keep the water flowing. that is when the finish came alive
  10. it was an Optima that was leaking acid? That doesn't sound good.

I hope so! I have 2 sets of those hope they are still buying the transmissions as I have one of them.
  13. But it is government so they can't do the easy fix. They have to do the one that costs the most, creates the most bureaucracy and give them the largest feeling of power.

"Also note that the '73 240Z and the 260Z have different bumper bracket mounts than the '72 and earlier bumpers, as well as a slightly different curved shape to work with the rubber packing pieces that go between the bumper and the fenders on each side. " Anyone have good side by side pictures of the differences? My parts car has a front bumper that was rechromed and looks great except that it was bumped and sprung so it looks like the one in the first picture.

I wish I had your local dealer. There used to be a good one about a half hour from where I work but it closed. Now the only ones that are open at times when I can get there charge over MSRP for things.

it was actually a picture of your car on here that inspired me to clean up the wheels. I kept looking at it then at my wheels going "can they really look that good?" Good eye on the size. For some reason I had thought mine were 6".

this stuff works pretty well: it was more than I'd usually pay for mag polish but worth it. I was actually going to just leave these wheels on my parts car when it eventually gets hauled away because I thought they were too far gone. After searching and not finding any 15" wheels that I liked enough to spend the money on I decided to try cleaning these up and just go with different 14" ones. I know I got the polish on the tires but those aren't staying on the wheels. I plan to go with bridgestone RE960AS
  20. Google's free picassa picasa.google.com (and others I'm sure) does a good job of cutting down video clips.

  22. I know it is common to put the newer setups on the 240 but I know a guy with a ZX that isn't getting spark and he just doesn't have the money to get it diagnosed or replace parts on it right now. And I have a spare coil/resistor/distributor setup. Does anyone know if it is just a matter of bolting it up and connecting a power wire that is hot when the key is on?

I do admit wanting to jump up and down on the hoods of cars where I've parked 10 spots from any other car only to come out and find them right next to me with their car hugging the line.

    That looks like farmboy engineering.

I've thought about that before and figured it would be more frustrating to catch someone since unless you are going to take them to small claims court and then hope to get them to actually pay any judgement that you receive there isn't any plus to it. I don't think there is any chance of getting a police report on it so unless you are into vigilantly revenge there is no winning that one. Although I admit to wondering if the leather punch on my pocket knife would go through a the sheet metal on a car door. Although I'm sure that even though I wouldn't get any justice for their damage the universe would find someway to punish me for my revenge.
