Suspension: 240 vs 260
Is 260z suspension better than 240z suspension? I think i read somewhere that the 260z rear suspension has longer travel, and you can lower it better without getting problems. are 2+2 struts different to 2 seater struts. Is it an easy swap? Or it it better to go for aftermarker replacements? Also my front wheels seem to have excessive negative camber. I Think the bearings are worn, or could it possibly be a bent stub axle? the previous ower was under the impression it was bent by the owner before him. I cant see any damage to the strut tower, but the frame rail is a bit banged up underneath, though that could just be from jacking the car up incorrectly.

Turn signals
My headlights didnt work either when i bought my zed. When i started playing it, the headlights flashed once, but i couldnt get them to come on again. When i pulled the switch out, the white and red power wire solder joint had come apart. Also the switch was worn internally. I was able to replace the worn lug with a plastic one i made. Now the switch works, but i havent put it back in the car yet. Hope it doesn't melt. Heres a pic of how my switch is wired. Its an Aussie car '72. I dont think the wiring of the US cars would be any different for the headlights.

Aussie power query
U series engines. What were they in? I thought the L24 was a 6 cylinder version of the 4 cyl L20 and L18.

Turn signals
I had a problem with my turn signals. It turned out to be a worn assembly/switch on the end of the indicator stick. I would only indicate right if i pushed it really hard. So i pulled it out the whole assembly, loosend up the screws that held the switch on the end of the stick and repositioned it. Now no left or right. What had happened was the plastic bush type thing that switches the switch has worn out, so that when you push the lever it rocks a bit and doesn't fully push the switch. So i wedged a thin piece of plastic between the metal part that holds the lever, and the plastic bush thing. Now it works fine. try pulling the switch off the stalk and operating the switch direclty with it attached to the car to see if thats the problem. Do you have a multimeter or test lamp to see if there is actually any power there?

A Sense of Hopelessness
Thats why I do everything I possibly can myself. Preformance workshops, apart from charging like wounded bulls seem to take more care. So are you gonna send the bill for fixing the damage to the mechanics, or just refuse to pay them?

240Z 4 sale in Adelaide
Now I've seen everything! One question....Why???? Started a 250GTO conversion then stopped? Got a broken window and couldn't find another one? Must make a massive blind spot. Halz, Cuong has a 260z for sale, though I suspect you aren't interested.

The FJ is coming back!!!
Ugly, unattractive, not nice to look at. But you americans are used to Big Ugly 4WD's so youv'e been desensitized to them. And the honda is just to get around in while my 240 is being rebuilt. I wouldn't have bought it if it didn't cost $300AUD.

Bought a 240z today, Perth WA.
More of a sideways step than a trade up. I just bought my brothers old car to get around in (which used to be my dads car, so it's been in the family 12 years or so). It a very rusty 82 honda. Air cond don't work (needs gas), power steering pulls to the left, nasty wheel vibrations above 100KpH, cruise controll is intermittant (some times it wont work), engine is a bit smokey after idleing. I saw an e-type on the road the other day. Big ugly un-sporty looking things they are. In England the 240z was a poor man's e-type, un the USA it was a poor man's corvette. Maybe nissan should have upped the price to get a bit of respect. Maybe we should get a wa zed car club going. Cuong, i'm short in cash at the moment, gonna do the bodywork first and worry about mechanicals later, but that has to wait for the garage to get emptied. What condition is the box in? I really wouldn't know what its worth. If you can hang onto it a while, i'll be interested later. How much are you selling the 260z for? Anybody notice the '74 240K coupe for $500 in thursdays Quokka.

350z launch Perth WA.
Yep sold it 3 days before the rego was due, so saved myself some cash by getting rid of it. Only got $500 for it though, but all up it only cost me $350 and i got to drive it around for 4 months and only had to pay for petrol. I just bought my brothers old car to get around in. It a very rusty 82 honda. Might fix the rust and sell it, and spend the money on my zed. Anybody notice the 240K coupe for $500 in thursdays Quokka.

I started pulling my 240z apart, and as I have nowhere to put stuff at the moment I threw everythin in the rear of the car, and thanks to the hot weather we've been having I now have a melted glovebox hatch D'OH.:dead: Also found that its had some sort of accident on the right (drivers side) rear pannel, but wont know the extent of the damage untill I get the paint off. Also found the remains of a wiring splice for a tow bar, D'OH again, which might explain the small cracks around the front window. These cars werent designed for the extra stress towing puts on the chassis. Hope the damage isn't as bad as my last 240z, but again I will have to wait and see how bad it is once i get it fully stripped. Some of the rust repairs, although welded, seem a bit second rate, and I like things done right, so I'll probably do them again, myself. I've been fixing and cleaning all the little bits that i can keep in the house, like headlight switch stalk. I'm currently restoring the steering wheel. Dont be afraid to use pain stripper on the faux wood to remove the varnish, it wont damage the woodgrain at all, and is probably better than sanding it with wet and dry. I stripped one of the headlight buckets and found the starting signs of rust, and way too much filler than was required. Lazy pannel beaters. Gonna strip the whole car and do it propperly. How's everyone else going? Cuong got a 240z gearbox you wanna sell?

Nice Photo's of A Japanese Z
Here's a tip open you volume controlls (windows: double click the speaker icon in the system tray) and mute SW synth, which will turn off all midi music, which is generally the tyep of cheesy music people use in webpages. You'll still get the other sound effects that windows makes as they are wav files.

350z launch Perth WA.
I went to the 350z launch at Northside Nissan last night. They had a silver and a gold one. Damn they're small. And those door handles just have to go. They showed some videos, all of which i'd seen before on the internet. Funny how they dropped the X off the 280 and 300ZX. A friend of mine was annoyed that there was no mention of the z31 (she owns one) the skipped straight to the z32 after the 280zx on the website intro they showed. (www.350z.com.au - Dont bother, just the intro then contact details of N.S. nissan and no info about the car itself, but you can book a test drive). I also noticed the new nissan ad thats been running on TV which shows a silver 280zx 2 seater doing donuts, had been replaced with a blue Z32 doing donuts for the launch. Presumably because we didn't get 280zx 2 seaters. The presenter (I forget who he was, but i've seen him on TV) made some remarks about girls not knowing about cars, which seemed to offend most of the females there. I overheard a woman complaining about the comments he made (about his wife not knowing what twin cams meant) to the guy she was with, and my friend wasn't too impressed either. But Free Beer and food, so I cant complain. A friend of mine just had to park his Toyota Supra Mk4 Twin Turbo at the front door so everyone could look at his paint. It changes from gold to green to purle, depending on the angle you look at it, so its never one colour. Pity my 240z is in peices. I could have parked it out the front so everyone can see what a real Z car looks like.

already at 7100
Yep. but I wouldn't pay $17,000 for one.

already at 7100
I though i saw an ad for GTR front cuts for around AUD$7-8000?
-
already at 7100
Well actually its US dollars so double the price to get AU dollars ($17200) and still tell me its a good price for a write off.

I guess brembo brakes and 4WD didn't help the driver avoid the sidways slide into the pole. Wouldn't want to have been in the passenger seat when it hit.

Blasphemy!?
A company in NSW, Australia is re-manufacturing MX-5 Miatas. These are called the Bullet Roadster and they have a toyota V8 lexus motor. http://www.fastlane.com.au/Custom_Shed/AEC_Bullet.htm P.S.I've seen a few 240z with supra engines. One in Zoom magazine had a 1 or 2JZ twin turbo, and i've seen one with a 5me turbo.

Inner fender weatherstrip
Its a strip of flat-ish solid rubber about an inch wide that runs along a seam and is clipped to the seam with s shaped metal clips.

coolant plug
You usually end up with water in your oil if you've got head problems, and it goes brown like coffee with milk. The water in the radiator gets an oily sheen on it, but doesn't really go sludgey or milky like the oil, unless its a big failure of the gasket. Just sound like a dirty cooling system. Has it ever been properly flushed? But it you coolant is being forced out the radiator, it sounds like you might have gasket problems. I had a car which kept forcing the coolant out or the radiator into the collecter tank, oil and water were fine, no contamination. But the head gasket had failed between the cylinder and the water jacket, letting compression into the cooling system.

Bringing the 280Z back to life
Turn the engine over a few times by hand with a socket on the pulley. I've read a few posts about engines that haven't been run for a long time getting valves stuck and bent by the pistons when they tried to start it. Aparrently its pretty common.

Interior Ergonomics
Dont go comparig 240z to 2+2 260z's. A 240z is a beautiful car, the 2+2, on the other hand, looks like a deformed hunchback. Ford owns Jag do they? mazda 323 = Ford laser Holden commodore = toyota lexan toyota camry = Holden Apollo nissan pulsar = holden astra mitsubishi = (no one wanted to team up wih them) blame the government at the time for thier idea to make the car market more competative by forcing car manufacturers to share models.
