Unfortunately, tan could still indicate a problem with the head gasket (or head). Seeing it on the spark plug just means there is a valve cover gasket leak, too. The oil and coolant can form an emulsion that can look tan. I frequently see people describing it as "chocolate milk". Send me your contact information, and I'll pass it along to Chet Wittel to see if he can take a look at your car. If he can't, I may be able to, depending upon whether or not I have spare time before the ZCCA convention.

From my reply on the other thread: Just reading that there might be a leaking head gasket, my suggestion would be to try to see if there is an old Z enthusiast living nearby (Z clubs are great resources for finding someone.) who could take a look at it. The coolant should be inspected, as well as spark plugs, fuel pressure, compression, etc., etc.

The resistor is probably there to reduce the inrush current when the coil is energized. It also serves to drop the voltage at little going through the coil.

The 3PM check in is just to make sure they can get all of the vacated rooms cleaned. About any hotel I've ever stayed at will allow you to check in sooner if the room has already been cleaned.

I had one of those in my 240Z. It died after 14 years of very light use. I replaced it with a 280ZX ignition. If you REALLY want to do a conversion, search here for HEI. IIRC, you can use it to replace the TIU. There is even a thread about mounting the HEI module inside the box for the TIU.

If you have the polarity swapped on the coil, it will cut down on its efficiency, but it would still work.

In the drawing I was referencing, I did not see any wire gauges specified, nor did I see anything about wire gauge in the other thread.

There is a problem with that drawing. No wire gauge is specified for the added wire that has a 30A fuse. First, even if you used that fuse to power both headlights, you wouldn't need more than a 15A fuse. Second, if you use anything less than 10 AWG, the fuse will not protect the wiring in the event of a short circuit.

As Zed Head said, look at the EE section of the FSM. You also have a Transistor Ignition Unit (TIU) in the cabin. It's located on the passenger side kick panel. It's difficult to miss. What concerns me is that in the last picture, there is a non-factory crimped lug on one of the reluctor wires. How about some history on the car? Did it ever run?

A few years back, someone was trying to figure out why his LED headlights wouldn't work. I told him it was a polarity issue. I can't remember if he was using the Truck-Lite version or another.

If the LED headlight is designed for the common wire to be negative, you'll need to do a relay conversion to get them to work.

I believe there is going to be a screening at ZCON.

It's good to see you got out of that one without much in the way of injuries. Was there enough left over after the fire for a post mortem?

I changed the bulb sockets for the center stack gauges to wedge sockets and added LED bulbs. I also added some insulation to reduce the amount of air coming through the upper vents when the slider is in the HEAT or DEF positions.
