  1. I moved from Corvallis, OR about 9.5 years ago down here to New Mexico. Also graduated from the university there, Oregon State... Go Beavers! Corvallis is a nice litttle city but housing was expen$ive.
  2. I don't know... looks like a hoax to me. Two of the proposed routes go through Communist China. I lived in China for several months. It's not the kind of place you'd want to race though in a super car.
  3. I've been driving the 240Z for the last couple of weekends. Yesterday I noticed that when I give the gas pedal a health push the revs go up faster than the car accelerates. The revs will drop down to normal pretty quickly. I've only noticed this in 4th gear so far (car is a 4-speed). I look in my repair manual and saw that you can make an adjustment down by the slave cylinder. That should take care of the slipping, right? :nervous: Any tips? TIA

  6. What's size were the tires that came on the '70 240Z from the factory? I think mine may be the OEM size, 175SR 14 Toyo Z (no aspect ratio listed on the side wall). They look skinny. The tires are old but only have a couple hundred miles on them, I have the tire warranty listing the mileage on the car when they were installed. Who sells custom rims that would fit those tires? The rims have to look like they belong on a 34-year-old Z car. I'm sort of torn because I have Z hubcaps on the car but they are not the correct ones, they have a "Z" in the center, not a "D". I think "D" hub caps would be out of my budget, especially since seeing that set that went for $1,200+ on ebay the other day. Also, the hubcaps I have look kind of drab.
  7. I have a book titled "Datsun Z-Cars", copyright 1981. It was published by the Editors of "Consumer Guide". I thought I read in the book that the 280Z was sold in the US only. Is that true? Going back through the book, I can't find where it said that. :cross-eye
  8. My '70 240Z sat for about 8 years in a garage before I got it. It did much the same as yours. 1) The first thing I did was remove the plugs and put a little oil in the cylinders incase the rings were stuck. Then I turned the motor by hand. I guess you're past that now. 2) I removed the carbs and gave them a good cleaning. That helped but it wouldn't run for very long. 3) I drained and removed the tank and took it to a radiator shop to be cleaned out. I also changed out all the rubber fuel hoses. 4) The rubber brake hoses were rotten so I changed them out and purged the old brake fluid. The old car now runs and stops just fine. However, I think it would benefit from a complete tune up. I let my 17 year old son drive it today while I was in the passenger seat. He got a real kick out of it and so did I.
  9. I love those old minis. Never seen one driven like that before.
  10. V12 Horse, I recently had my gas tank "boiled" out by a radiator shop. The guys there strongly suggested NOT to have the tank coated. They said the coating will eventually come off and mess up the fuel system and at that point the tank is pretty much trash. I also heard the same from other Z car guys.
  11. They are for sale in the latest Victoria British catalog.
  12. Did the Z embarrass the ‘vette? How, I wonder. The only thing I heard was that introduction of the Z in the US was the demise of the British sports car.
  13. What I need are break hoses.
  14. Do you have MSA's web address? Thanks
  15. What are your favoriate internet and/or mail order sources for replacement parts for your Z? Thanks.
  16. Hey everyone, Thanks, your tips worked great on the back brakes. No kinked tubing. I still need to do the fronts but the hoses I bought at AutoZone are too long so I need order some. Guess I should have ordered from a Z parts store.
  17. Red-Eye, Sounds good. I sent you a PM.
  18. I guess the thought was that I'd hold the flare nut steady while turning the rubber hose fitting. If I do ruin the metal lines, what's a good source for replacements?
  19. Since I'm going to replace the hoses anyway, someone suggested cutting the hoses and then unscrewing from that side. That should reduce the chance of damaging the steel lines, right? Any thoughts?
  20. What else besides WD40? Thanks
  21. '70 240Z... I’m having trouble removing the rubber brake hoses. I sprayed some WD40 on the fittings and put a 10mm wrench on the fitting on the metal tubing side. The nut fitting is starting to round off so I stopped. Do you have any tricks or do I just grab it with a pair of visegrips? Thanks
