Rear Stub Axle Disassembly
You can still get the 280zx axle nuts. I ordered a set about 6 months ago from courtesy nissan. FWIW I had to use not just big...but honking big impact wrench to get the original peened axle nuts off. I'm just glad it didn't damage the stub axles in the process.

Handheld/Pocket PCs
No offense taken It is like I said earlier...everyone has their own needs and likes and you have to buy what fits your needs and likes, not what everyone else wants you to buy.

Handheld/Pocket PCs
I use mine for contact info, appointments, and as a note taker when I need that and I have a program for reading the Bible when I am away from home on it also. My Zire has great maps with several display options, the voice directions, camera, able to play mp3s downloaded to the media card as well as able to do voice recording and I only spent about 325 usd after rebates for the whole package that includes the gps hardware and software. So I got a pda and gps for alot less than what a dedicated gps costs that have the same capabilities. IMHO. Keep in mind I am no techno wizard and I find it easy to use. I do find that electronics are like everything else...you will find people who love certain brands (like our beloved Z's) and some people who wouldn't be caught dead with them (let the flaming begin). We all like different things and I would recommend you pick the one you like best. I would recommend what I have to anyone looking for something they could use in a variety of ways. If money wasn't an issue, then I would have ordered the manufacturers navigation system for my car and hire someone to make me a pda that does EVERYTHING my desktop pc does and do it as well so that I could use that whenever I was away from home and didn't want to carry something the size of a laptop with me. I like it and I am pleased with it. Good luck with what ever you purchase.

Handheld/Pocket PCs
Mine is set up with rechargeable battery and it came with a dc power adapter that plugs into the cigarette lighter (I don't smoke so at least that part of my car now has a good use) and powers both the GPs receiver and my palm pilot.

I wish I could help you with the technical stuff...however I just bought a PalmOne Zire72s with the GPS pack and I am impressed with how it works. It uses the blue tooth technology for the GPS receiver. You will want to purchase a memory card or a few of them to copy the maps to. I have a 512 mb card for mine and I could use another one to make sure I got all the maps. It came with the map software it is like 8 disks worth of program and maps (mostly maps). If I can help you any other way, just let me know. David

Stub Axle Removal
SuperDave... I am wondering that myself because I know that I will have to do the job again down the road and I might not have access to a press next time I do it so I will be keeping watch to see what is recommended.

Stub Axle Removal
My Mad Z hit the nail on the head. I just did mine not too long ago and had access to a press. That is by far the easiest and best way to do it. And I might also add...it is the best way to put it all back together!!!

March Poll of the Month
Great Poll!!! I just needed one block that said everything though

How Old?
I will turn 43 next month and while I remember the Z, I was more interested in owning my dad's 65 'stang which I finally did get in 79. Then I went to Okinawa in the Air Force and fell in love with the Skylines. Bought a 72 GT and brought it back to the States in 1982 and some bone-head decided to shorten it for me.   After a few more trips around the world I got M...M...MMMaaaarrrrriiiiiiieeeeddd. I was also into roadracing motorcycles up until last year when I bought the 72 Z. And my wife still isn't complaining about the money it cost us

Hi Carl, Darn...you figured me out It is still funny even tho it is a hoax!!!

Nailed
I don't know what is more stupid...a guy who "Accidentally shoots a nail in his brain" :stupid: or one who straps a JATO (Jet Assist Take-Off) rocket to the top of his car to see how fast it will go

Header problem
Sean240z...Do you have any pictures of the system installed? I just moved a couple of months ago to Iowa and have to find a good exhaust shop that could do the work for me. I would like to get some pictures of what you guys did to fix the problem so I know what others did vs. what I am thinking about doing. Thanks in advance.

Does anyone know if these are originals
DatsunZGuy...Yours look like mine do when they are cleaned up. And to think I almost threw them away. :stupid: :stupid: :stupid: :stupid: Glad I didn't

Thanks for the pictures Carl. I now know that I have the dealer added floor mats. They are in pretty good shape for being 32 years old .They even have the "240Z" on them!!!

Removing Gas Tank
I used a spring inside mine to keep it from kinking. If you have pictures I'd be interested in how you did yours.
-
Removing Gas Tank
found the link: http://www.jrdemers.com/ Look under "Z Car tips and tricks", "Tank Vent Repair." As far as where to disconnect the fuel filler tube, I did mine at the tank. It wasn't too difficult but may have been replaced before I got the car.

Removing Gas Tank
If the edges are cracked, I would go ahead and replace them. I replaced all of the lines coming out of the tank and vapour tank by buying all the items needed thru NAPA auto parts. Just make sure you get hoses that are rated for fuel/oil. I think I had spent about 30 bucks on the supplies. The bigger hose that has the 180 degree bend in it was the tough one. But it is doable without spending 100 bucks on one hose!!! There is a good write up around on how to do it. If anyone has the link please pass it on. I will try and find it again and post it. Hope this helps some.

Header problem
I called them and they said it was not a problem with the header but my car. Go figure. Another member here on the site was told that the vendor making the header had a defective jig (or something close to that) and got a new header sent to him. When I told MSA that, they just said that they sold hundreds of them and never had a problem. I will make neccessary modifications and be done with it. To MSA's credit however, I did mess up one of the pipes and they sent me a new one at no expense to me.
-
How much $$ have you spent on your Z ?
I new this wasn't going to be cheap going into it. But it sure doesn't make it any easier when I see what it is adding up too!!!
-
Installing Headers
Yes... I have the MSA 6 into 1. I was able to use the original washers but...what I ran into is the collector was about 1/2 inch to high in the transmission tunnel and required either a custom bent pipe to clear the transmission mount or a custom transmission mount. I called MSA on this and pretty much got told I was nuts because they sold hundreds of these with out any fitment problems. So I guess I am nuts and it is all a figment of my generous imagination. (so...where did Cindy Crawford go, you know, my wife?)

Poll: Should we prevent gallery downloads?
As long as it is not for personal profit or monentary gain I could care less whether somebody downloads images I post in the gallery. It is interesting to see what other people think.

How Tight is it suppose to be?
panchovisa...I thought I had it all seated first but...obviously that wasn't the case. I also had the inner seal slightly "cocked" at first which didn't help either :stupid: I'm just glad it's all back together and working. The southeast corner of Wyoming isn't as nice as the northwest part. I just like the Mountains over the plains.

How Tight is it suppose to be?
I feel stupid :stupid: but after the photo you posted of where the marks were on yours, I went out and low and behold there they where so... I checked both the old and new strut tubes and they were the same...(. After doing that I put it all back together cuz I had it apart again :stupid: and made sure that everything was seated right and...it works I have to assume at this point that the bearings and seals weren't seated properly the first time :stupid: which was causing the drag making it rotate very difficult. But as I said she is working great now.
