  1. When I was in graduate school, I raised a litter of St. Bernard puppies. At 12 weeks they were as cute as could be, but they were about the size of German Shepherds and they were teething!! They spent their nights in my garage and managed to eat the tail light and a turn signal off a motorcycle I was using as my main transportation, so I decided to wire it to a fence charger. I put chicken wire under the bike and used that for a ground. I then hooked the hot wire to the frame. It worked like a dream and the puppies never touched the bike again. Unfortunately, in a hurry to get to school one morning I forgot about my handiwork and just jumped on the bike. You'd be amazed how conductive a vinyl seat can be. I think this design could save the military a fortune on ejection seats. Live and learn. ROFL
  2. I have a 73 with an L28 engine. The PO pulled off the EFI because of major problems and installed a MSA intake with an Edelbrock 4 barrel carb. The set up performs well, gives me reasonable fuel economy and is easy to maintain and tune. That said, I've seen other guys on the list have major problems with 4 barrel conversions and others express concern about the different lengths of the manifold intakes causing different fuel mixtures in the middle versus outer cylinders. Performance and history wise, a well tuned set of round top SUs is hard to beat. I have a set with intake manifold waiting in the wings, but for me the restoration process in the face of a nice running current system is hard to justify. BILL D.

I hadn't thought that aftermarket windshields would be a problem. I've had windshields changed in the parking lot at work in minutes with great results. My 240z windshield is slightly pitted (just enough to be annoying when driving into glare) and I was thinking about having it replaced. Since I'm also in the Atlanta area, please let me know if you come up with a workable replacement. BILL D.
  5. I found SWEPCO 201 on sale for $34/gal at: http://www.rwparts.com//catalog/product_info.php?cPath=29&products_id=63&osCsid=731a3a281b6c69613d7870fba04082fc BILL D.
  6. I'm currently using a slow, dial-up connection. I see your avitar loading up one image at a time and then playing back in full glory after the load. While it is doing this I can scroll around and do other things on the page. In other words, it doesn't have a negative impact on my internet experience and once loaded is a lot of fun. More power to animated avitars!! BILL D.

  8. One of my favorite websites is breakthechain.org. It researches chain letters like this and evaluates the source information (if any). Their take on this can be found at: http://www.breakthechain.org/exclusives/australiaguns.html The use of percentages rather than raw numbers is central to the distortion used in the e-mail. The following is a summary quote from the evaluation: "My favorite claim in the letter is that gun-related homicides in Victoria are up 300%. An increase from 7 to 14 is only 100% and is hardly compelling. Population increase alone could account for the higher number. Regardless, in the United States - where most major cities have 7-14 homicides in a month - we would kill (pun intended) for crime rates that low."
  9. A similar question came up on a motocycle list I subscribe to. The list answers were ingenious and creative (as were the ones on this thread), but the show stopper was from one of the ladies. She related that her emergency kit had four items. She further noted that with this kit she had never had a road side emergency she couldn't handle. Her emergency kit items consisted of: A tube of lipstick, a credit card, a cell phone, and a 9mm hand gun.
  10. In terms of new construction, does anyone have experienced with the stained concrete process for garage floors. I have been told that this can simulate tile and is very hardy. BILL D.
  11. hls30.com, I don't know what makes a classic, but I do agree with you about the looks of the 240z and the positive feelings it evokes. Other than the crowds that seem to always gather around it at service stations, I sometimes forget the responses of other drivers. I recently met my son for lunch at a restaurant and he happened to follow me for about four blocks. He said that he was amazed at the number of "double takes" resulting from people seeing my old z. Old and young, male and female. Not all, but an amazingly high percentage of the people responded to the classic beauty of the car. Perhaps that sort of universal recognition defines a classic. It makes people happier simply by existing. And the best part is that I don't have to visit it in a museum -- I can drive the old girl to the store!! BILL
  12. This is a rather crude solution, but it just might discourage the classier type of theives.
  13. I believe the key here is that the PO replaced the mechanical fuel pump with an Edlebrock electric fuel pump. I don't think this pump uses the return line. (I'll check later today.) That's what had me confused -- there was nothing obvious to hook the extra fuel line to!:stupid: It may have simply come loose from Edlebrock pump from a place that I haven't seen, but I think the line was simply left open. I hadn't noticed this until I really filled the tank and the car was parked nose down on a hill. I changed all of the rear fuel hoses to get rid of the gas smell after a fill-up. This may have been my problem all along.
  14. The car was originally titled in Winder, GA, so I think this is a return line. How about my original question -- is it OK to simply block off the line? If not, what should I do with it. Thanks.
  15. I filled up my car today and noticed some leaking from the front end. I found that a small diameter metal tube that parallels the main fuel line (I assume it is the vent line that originally went to the carbon canister) was open at the end and leaking fuel. I've stoped the end with some rubber tubing and a screw, but wanted to know if this was an OK fix. I'm using a 4 barrel carb set-up on an L28 engine in a '73 240z, so all of the emissions equipment has been removed. Thanks in advance for any help.
  16. I have the same problem and suspect the sender. Where can you get an oil pressure sender for $8-$12? MSA sells them for $33.50-$45.10 and I'd love another source. Thanks
  17. New forum idea sounds good. I found that Victoria British sells a blower motor replacement for $69.95. New bearings might be a good thing, but I'm still enthusiastic about a pulled unit with higher performance. A more muscular rodent, even with bad joints, might be an overall improvement. :classic: BILL
  18. No problem. I was searching under "heater fan" and didn't get a hit. Your tip sent me in a more productive direction. The wrong forum wasn't a problem at all. I'll be scouting a blower next week and will post the results on this thread. Would love to hear about your experiences. If anyone else has done the switch and has some additional information, would really like to hear from them too. Thanks, BILL
  19. The forum link is: http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=2780&highlight=honda+civic+blower The thread was under electrical. I did a search but hadn't turned this up. Thanks! This looks like it will not only be a fix, but a major upgrade. Thanks again.
  20. My heater/vent fan has started to provide me with unwanted "music" when activated. I am assuming that the fan bearing is shot. The obvious fix would be to replace the fan motor, but that is expensive. Is there any other fix that will work but not set me back $150 or so? Thanks

Could someone explain the logic of having Speed Racer reruns on the Speed Channel. Isn't their 24-7 NASCAR coverage bad enough? :stupid:

Does anybody have any information about the value of the oils that are advertised as being formulated for high milage engines? I'm curious if this is the newest snake oil additive.
