  1. I would also look for rust behind the battery hold on the fire wall. If the floors were done, were the frame rails, rocker panels, fenders, lower rear quarter panels? These are the "main" rust prone areas, but not all.
  2. What seals did the factory auth. restorers use? Did they work?
  3. It probably means your handbrake cable was rusted, frozen, ceased, etc. The quick fix is to cut it at the rear wheels. That's what was done to mine. A better fix is to replace the cable, about $90 from Nissan plus several hours labor. I had that done, too.
  4. As mentioned above, fuel filters and pump are a good place to look. Also, make sure the little SU hoses beneath the carbs aren't cracked and leaking. I had that problem. You must use Nissan SU hoses from dealer (about $15). For $950, I bet your carbs still need a rebuild among other engine things. Don't be angry at these messengers, most have been there, done that. If you got a relatively rust free chassis and a Z that runs at all for $950, you got a great deal!
  5. Your z may have the original low emission flat top carbs which you immediately want to replace with rebuilt round top 70-72 carbs. That will make a huge difference. If you already have them, you may need a good tune up and aother adjustments, such as valves, etc.
  6. If it was my kid, a 16 yr old isn't ready for a high performance car. And since I love my son dearly. his car WILL have a driver side air bag at a minimum AND anti-lock brakes. Even if money were no object, your 3500 range is reasonable and there are some sporty mid 90s cars that fit the bill, i.e., Eclipse, Saturn coupe, Sentra, Grand Am, Sunfire, Cavalier, 93-94 Civic EX, etc.

I agree with Carl. Also, I used to love white, but now I find dark meat sweeter. Turkey, too.
  9. My 73 originally came with the "plain oil" cap from orig. owner. Cap was beat. When I first had car serviced 5 yrs ago, they "suggested" I get a new "oem" cap. They put a new elephant oil cap on. They put a new Nissan radiator cap on too. Now my Z never forgets......
  10. I have the same problem, too many cars (never), not enough garage. I bought the Technalon 4 ply cover from Autozone, like Pep Boys in Philly, for all of $100, a steal. it comes in tan only and breaths great and is impervious to the weather. Save your money on the custom versions, the difference is a cutout for the mirror. It's the same material as the Evolution 4 cover from Calcover

  12. Thanks Alan.
  13. Thanks Kats for the wonderful insite of some unusual early Zs from your and maybe S. Africa's markets. It's too bad only one model was sent here. some of the unique features of the JMZ would be fun to have, some as the clock that was mentioned in this site last week and shown in your manual. Maybe Alan knows, but was Nissan called Datsun in S Africa also or only in the West? Kats, thanks, again, for the pictures and education.

  19. Oops, I guess I should have checked before I bought the 71 versions on eBay. Anyone need them? Thanks Carl
  20. Would someone be able to tell me if the 71 Z lever is the same as the 73 or 72 lever? Thanx in advance.
  21. So what cool plate # did you get? Do you know if the wheels are still avail?
  22. I can't blame ya Mark. I wouldn't do the drive either unless it was a dire emerg. Have fun with your root beer float.:classic:
  23. Haven't been to one in the past year or so, but they used to be open six days. I know the one in the Thompson center is open on Mondays.
